I agree - we could even have more. We've been growing a lot faster than we were. We've been averaging about 1,000 posts/day for the past week, whereas a few months ago it was about 300 posts/day.

Here's what I said:

I think we'll be around 5,500 to be honest. Once we get to about 4,000 the site will start becoming serious business, and that's when I'd expect a massive spike in membership. Although, I don't trust my projections too much. :p

And we're already well on our way to 5,500 by the end of the year!

The simple answer is proberly looking at 6000. The site is certainly a place to attract the newer members And i've also noticed those newer members are staying too. So its certainly a great accomplishment.

It shows up in the search engines, and a number of us have links to the site on our own web pages. There is plenty of word of mouth.

Other forms of advertising begins to cost money. This site survives off the ad banners and Supporter donations.

You're right about word of mouth, Cog. All of my friends know about WF because of me, but unfortunately, no one's joined here :p

The contests are a good crowd-drawer. A number of my real-world friends have showed an interest.

It's practically #1 on google. That's how I found this place. I typed in 'writing forum'.

This site has certainly grow since I became a member. I agree with the rest of you that we will probably be around 6,000 members by 2009 if not more. I also agree with Banzai that the contests draw more people in as well. I have also told a handful of people about this forum. Some of them have joined. Hopefully this forum will continue to grow more and more.

As a new member I'd like to point out that what brought me here was the dedication that I felt from the people who have posted a lot. I appreciate their clear commitment to fostering a caring and thoughtful environment where writing can flourish. As long as mods/reviewers/senior members keep this in mind the site will grow...plus being the #1 result on google for "writing forum" helps.
