View Full Version : What Kind Of Music Do You Listen To?
Carpa Túnel 05-24-2008, 02:22 AM Because I've got nothing better to do on the morning of a Saturday, I decided to post this, a poll about what music you listen to, and from that, we can see what the majority of the forum listens to. Simply because of the magic of boredom :D.
Gannon 05-24-2008, 02:46 AM I would say indie / alternative but that isn't an option so I plumped for Rock
Bluemouth 05-24-2008, 02:48 AM I don't listen to any of those you've listed, so the results immediately are not a fair representation ...
I listen to Indie, Folk, Alternative, Chillout, New Wave and Epic/Vocal/Inspirational stuff.
FantasyWitch 05-24-2008, 02:53 AM I love Rock/Metal and lots and lots of other music.
I hate rap and dance music.
Carpa Túnel 05-24-2008, 03:36 AM Ah, sorry for the stuff I've forgotten, I totally forgot Indie >.<
Torana 05-24-2008, 05:55 AM Nothing beats metal :p
Rock, Punk and Hip-Hop, mostly.
Rumpole40k 05-24-2008, 06:05 AM Rock and Metal mostly.
I like most of those choices. The only styles I really don't like, period, are rap and death metal. Pretty much all of the others, I can find at least one or two artists/songs that I like. Hard rock would be my top choice.
Gone Wishing 05-24-2008, 06:25 AM All of the above, plus many more. :D
ChimmyBear 05-24-2008, 06:51 AM See, I listen to everything.....last night I was flip flopping between Bob Dylan and Aerosmith, with a little Frank Sinatra and Guns N' Roses...then some Faith Hill! I love all music!
tehuti88 05-24-2008, 06:59 AM I chose pop as I like pop/rock but lately I listen to more...I'm not even sure what to call it. Instrumental/orchestral/soundtracky/Latin-choir-chanting-type stuff.
Crazy Ivan 05-24-2008, 07:29 AM Rock takes up most of my listening time. And all types of it, too- classic rock, alternative rock, indie, folk, punk, etcetera. The only type I really don't like is death metal and other associated genres.
My parents have also brainwashed me into digging classical music and such native styles as bluegrass, zydeco, etcetera. Jazz is also way on the top of my list- why isn't that on here? Also, pop is one of my guilty pleasures that I only listen to when no one else is looking (*coughcough'4Minutes'cough*). Sometimes I do soundtrack stuff- Firefly specifically springs to mind.
I have to admit, though, I've never heard of 'Trance.' What is it?
Eoz Eanj 05-24-2008, 08:35 AM Where's the 'all' option?
lessa 05-24-2008, 09:26 AM I will listen to almost anything.
the exception is the cursing every 1/2 word through the entire song.
we were at a chinese restaurant yesterday where they had chinese music playing it was really nice. Don called it water music and it suited it.
but just about anything is fine by me.
If I can sing along with it so much the better.
Gone Wishing 05-24-2008, 09:27 AM I have to admit, though, I've never heard of 'Trance.' What is it?
Trance is a sub-genre of electronica - usually more mellow than stuff like techno/house.
(o_O There's a Firefly soundtrack? The theme song is cool, and Christophe Beck did quality work for all of Joss' shows... )
Crazy Ivan 05-24-2008, 09:57 AM There is in fact a Firefly soundtrack, but it's not by Christophe Beck- it's the work of a guy named Greg Edmonson, and it's a totally awesome mix of western and Asian...you know, pretty much like the show. Highly recommended.
Torana 05-24-2008, 10:00 AM Nooooooooooooooooo people! Death Metal! Death Metal! Cannibal Corpse! TOOL! That is the bestest :p
Gone Wishing 05-24-2008, 10:08 AM There is in fact a Firefly soundtrack, but it's not by Christophe Beck- it's the work of a guy named Greg Edmonson, and it's a totally awesome mix of western and Asian...you know, pretty much like the show. Highly recommended.
Cool.
But also...darn! I love the theme he did for "The Message", and it's really hard finding Christophe Becks' work for those shows.
Tori, I love Tool almost as much as you... but I need variety! :)
Torana 05-24-2008, 10:48 AM lol that is why I listen to Cannibal Corpse, and Morbib Angel :p lol
devilcurls6981 05-24-2008, 11:32 AM Classic Rock. Some Metal, and the Indie.
ValianceInEnd 05-24-2008, 12:21 PM Mostly punk, classic rock, and metal. I do like some techno and funk on the side, and the occasional 80's new wave.
Mousie 05-24-2008, 03:42 PM I listen to all kindsa stuff, but I think I like cutesy Japanese dance music (DDR-type stuff, and lotsa Cheiko Kawabe  )
Titania 05-24-2008, 04:07 PM I put rock because I thought that was the closest... but I mainly listen to international music. A lot of Spanish (=from Spain) music, but a wide variety of it - pop, rock, modern flamenco-type stuff, you name it. Latin American music to a lesser extent, but also quite a bit. I also listen to random Japanese music (I get it from my sister) and, most recently, Arabic music.
As far as English music... I tend to like rock/alternative. I'm pretty out of touch as far as the really modern stuff goes though.
Oasis Writer 05-24-2008, 04:08 PM Any and all.
Vertz 05-24-2008, 10:13 PM For the poll, Rock, simply because most of my music could be considered that. I would say pretty much all of it applies to me. As long as the music moves me/ inspires me in some way, I'll listen to it. I really can't understand hating a genre. I get hating certain artists or songs, but I've found at least one song in each genre that I like (even, sadly, country....).
That said, I listen to a whole lot of 80s hair metal, 90s alt. rock, and a decent amount of metal. Current music doesn't really do anything for me, sadly. There are a few exceptions, but I'm mostly sticking with bands that survived from the 80s/90s.
For an idea of how varied this is, I've got a bunch of Duran Duran (go 80s) CDs next to all my Dream Theater (go 80s/90s/00s prog. metal) CDs. Lots of Tool and lots of Train.
Gloom Kitty 05-25-2008, 01:40 AM I listen to all kindsa stuff, but I think I like cutesy Japanese dance music (DDR-type stuff, and lotsa Cheiko Kawabe  )
OMG like TM revolution what an awesome japanese band.
As for the rest J-pop metal and indie a little of the techno. Mainly metal though
Frost 05-25-2008, 05:54 AM Metal. Power and progressive predominantly, then thrash and melodic death, then core.

Gone Wishing 05-25-2008, 07:54 AM It's ok - we're not usually known for our Hip Hop :p
I would have linked to the dudes that sang about "a two dollar bag of hip hop fresh from the local fish n' chip shop", but I can't for the life of me remember who actually sang it!
:)
Bonzo-Reborn 05-25-2008, 09:03 AM Yeah ill listen to anything except like stupid dance and r&b, i can appreciate proper dance music like the chemical brothers but terrible dj's is my pet hate.
Metal mostly though
Aurora_Black 05-25-2008, 04:16 PM Oh man I absolutely love screamo music, but not rap and such because it's so repetitive (and im not racist cuz i luvs me some Killswitch Engage!) like "Yo yo i sell drugs and like that booty all in my face" (No offense :() i don't really like songs like that but beyond some amusement i dont listen to rap and or hip-hop, although i dress baggy (lulz the irony!) I like bands like:
Underoath
Saosin
Killswitch <-- not screamo, i think metalcore
Blessthefall
As Cities Burn
and a bit of Mozart Season
