View Full Version : Life's Greatest Defect
Crazy Ivan 05-25-2008, 12:17 PM For you, right now, what is it?
I'd say it's the utter lack of totally awesome gigantic musical numbers that really bugs me.
Gone Wishing 05-25-2008, 12:34 PM Now that's a tough question... There's a few things that I could list, but for now I'm going to go with 'do-it-yourself' instructions for home furnishings. It took me far too long to decipher the assembly instructions for my desk chair before I could put it together and spin around on in safely.
:)
Rumpole40k 05-25-2008, 12:40 PM The lack of an internet browser that could be implanted in my brain. Oh come on, how many mundane things do you have to endure in a day? WOuldn't it be easier if, while waiting on a bank line, you could log on?
Eoz Eanj 05-25-2008, 12:40 PM I need more lithium batteries for my camera
I also need a new camera.
Cogito 05-25-2008, 01:13 PM Let's refrain from Microsoft-bashing, or Mac-bashing, or Linux-bashing (etc).
It's non-productive. and every bit as potentially volatile as religious or political arguments.
Bonzo-Reborn 05-25-2008, 01:15 PM I think people defining life's greatest defect is in fact it's only defect.
FantasyWitch 05-25-2008, 01:19 PM My life's defect is my boyfriend buggering off to the army... it's horrible being left behind.
Oh and exams... I hate exams...
ValianceInEnd 05-25-2008, 03:19 PM Eh, doing poorly in school, feeling a lack of focus, loosing a girl... I have some sizable problems right now. Still, I try to look forward and know that I can fix what I've broken.
ChimmyBear 05-25-2008, 03:48 PM Lacking the ability to make everyone happy. It's not always about me...but, sometimes for the sake of balance it has to be.
Aurora_Black 05-25-2008, 04:00 PM Homework, so..much...HW!
Banzai 05-25-2008, 04:09 PM Quantum mechanics. It's unnecessary, and confuses poor physics students like myself.
mammamaia 05-25-2008, 04:18 PM imo, "life's" greatest defect is humankind... which is, overall, anything but 'kind'...
Cogito 05-25-2008, 07:31 PM Quantum mechanics. It's unnecessary, and confuses poor physics students like myself. For shame! To malign the branch of physics that put the last nail in the coffin of determinism, ensuring a place for free will!
Crazy Ivan 05-25-2008, 08:14 PM For shame! To malign the branch of physics that put the last nail in the coffin of determinism, ensuring a place for free will!
My greatest defect: Not understanding what he's saying. Wah.
Life's greatest defect, is death. I should have thought that was obvious.
Al
mammamaia 05-25-2008, 10:50 PM Life's greatest defect, is death. I should have thought that was obvious.
not all would consider that a defect, al... i certainly don't... given a chance to live forever, i'd not take it...
lordofhats 05-25-2008, 10:51 PM I agree. Death is certainly quite a defect in life. I mean, I figure the greatest defect in anything is something that causes it to end.
I think the greatest defect however, is the utter lack of any degree of humility in humans in general. Pride is a deadly sin my friends for more than one reason, and humanity has ALOT of it.
imo, "life's" greatest defect is humankind... which is, overall, anything but 'kind'...
Well, look at the bright side. We're one of a "kind" ahahahahahaha :D. Puns are fun :).
 Keep it down, lordofhats! Cogito can hear you!
Crazy Ivan 05-26-2008, 05:08 AM not all would consider that a defect, al... i certainly don't... given a chance to live forever, i'd not take it...
Agreed, for sure. If everyone stayed alive, the planet would quickly get overcrowded.
And, for the love of God, imagine the mayflies. All. The. MAYFLIES.
Domoviye 05-26-2008, 07:48 AM Quantum mechanics. It's unnecessary, and confuses poor physics students like myself.
But its wonderful for science fiction writers. I'm reading two books on physics for laymen, one of them specifically concerning quantum mechanics, and its fascinating.
The biggest life defect is the fact that I'm not GOD!!!!!
If I was life would no longer be defective. At least for me.
Edit: I just had a nasty thought. If nothing died, think about what we eat. We'd eat something, and then it would continue to grow and move around in our stomachs. That would play hell with the digestive system.
Crazy Ivan 05-26-2008, 07:58 AM Also, there would be no coral reefs. And everyone would be bald, all over the body, because hair is dead skin cells. In fact, ALL of your outer skin is dead cells- so what would never dying do to our bodies?
Rumpole40k 05-26-2008, 07:59 AM Today I think life's greatest defect is me not being elected President of the US. Come on could I REALLY do any worse?
Gone Wishing 05-26-2008, 08:04 AM I think it's my sense of reason - much like other balancing aspects of my personality (and a certain tyrannical ego that I've come to know), it mutated, broke free of the constraints I placed on it and began causing much mayhem and destruction in all the major cities.
Godzilla, Mothra and Gamera failed to subdue any of them.
ChimmyBear 05-26-2008, 08:46 AM My greatest today...the fact that I can't seem to take off these stupid rose colored glasses...I mean it, it's like, they are sewed to my head....how does that happen?
FantasyWitch 05-26-2008, 09:20 AM Homework, so..much...HW!
I second that!!!!
adamant 05-26-2008, 09:54 AM If nothing died (or was destroyed, rather), would we need to eat more than once?
mammamaia 05-26-2008, 03:53 PM Well, look at the bright side. We're one of a "kind" ahahahahahaha .
thanks, loh, i needed that! ;-)
Zelda13 05-27-2008, 03:09 AM I second that!!!!
I third it. Especially when for me life's greatest defect is procrastination/ lack of motivation...because that work is destined never to get done :(
Torana 05-27-2008, 05:02 AM The biggest life defect is the fact that I'm not GOD!!!!!
If I was life would no longer be defective. At least for me.
All I have to say is that I am kind of glad you aren't. Though it would be a rather interesting world, considering how disturbing your mind is....
Edit: I just had a nasty thought. If nothing died, think about what we eat. We'd eat something, and then it would continue to grow and move around in our stomachs. That would play hell with the digestive system.
And this is what I mean by how disturbing your mind is! Though it is a most awesome image :p lol
Life's greatest defect for me, right at this very moment in time...hmmm!
Easy! The fact that the UK and Australia are so damn far apart :p hehehe
Torana 05-27-2008, 05:04 AM imo, "life's" greatest defect is humankind... which is, overall, anything but 'kind'...
you know maia. I think you have honestly hit the nail on the head here!
princess K 05-27-2008, 06:36 AM lifes greatest defect is that everytime something changes for the worse permanently a little bit of you dies.
That a beautiful song will eventually lose its magic.
And that someone you were so close to can become "that person you avoid eye contact with on the street."
Rumpole40k 05-27-2008, 08:42 PM My current need for sleep.
Aurora_Black 05-27-2008, 08:54 PM Homework, so..much...HW! I second that!!!!
We need an anti-homework army. Simple yet direct, haha
ChimmyBear 05-28-2008, 02:23 PM Mine, at this moment...not being able to have what I want soooooo badly...*sigh*...this seriously sucks...:(
Rumpole40k 05-30-2008, 10:58 AM The fact that I am completely and utterly BORED!!
Genesister 05-30-2008, 08:26 PM Life is a very broad word, so I'll abuse that and take you out of the context you intended for a moment. Humanity's defect is that we're afraid to try and fix our faults, so we pretend they don't exist. Just look at people who's lives revolve around sex and materials. It's regressive behavior, but so many people deem it acceptable because it's an easy way to live.
We're afraid of admitting we've made mistakes, and we're afraid to fix them. I usually sound dumber than this, but I just wanted to make my point as clear as possible.
This affects everyone, and it's frustrating knowing that you can't open everyone's eyes. All you can do better yourself. If enough people could do this, the rest would follow.
I need to get into touch with whoever built life. I'll be reporting a bug.
Domoviye 05-30-2008, 11:59 PM Well said Genesister.
On another note, I'm still not GOD!!!!
And life isn't responding to my letter of complaint.
Cobra517 05-31-2008, 01:08 AM Just look at people who's lives revolve around sex and materials. It's regressive behavior, but so many people deem it acceptable because it's an easy way to live.
Quit judging people whose lives revolve around sex or material things. In this forum you are not at liberty to bash people like that.

I knew it! Freedom of speech (or text) is a lie! 0_o
And on subject, my current inability to get my lazy ass into gear and get started on writing a novel. I hope I'm not the only one...
Cobra517 05-31-2008, 01:18 AM Freedom of speech? Sure, you're free to say what you want to.
But don't be surprised when people get angry after you've poked and prodded them with your words...
Oasis Writer 05-31-2008, 04:16 AM Sleepless nights, I would say.
Genesister 06-01-2008, 11:57 AM But don't be surprised when people get angry after you've poked and prodded them with your words...
Done. If I cared at all about how the people I'm speaking negatively about would react I wouldn't have posted.
On topic, I'm procrastinating too much today.
Rumpole40k 06-01-2008, 12:04 PM My current lack of a dog.
Crazy Ivan 06-01-2008, 12:08 PM Zits.
...God, I'm such a teenager.
ValianceInEnd 06-01-2008, 01:51 PM Zits.
...God, I'm such a teenager.
I second that. Acne sucks! But look at it this way, we'll be less prone to wrinkling in our later years. :p
Rumpole40k 06-01-2008, 04:40 PM My inability to control the volume of others.
ChimmyBear 06-01-2008, 10:12 PM My inability understand what is happening around me...
Firefly 06-24-2008, 11:02 AM Life has so many defects, but through God we can be whole.
I think life's greatest defect is that we're selfish people. We can't help it. We're only human. But once again, through God, we're given a home in Heaven and made holy.
princess K 06-24-2008, 04:35 PM Life has so many defects, but through God we can be whole.
I think life's greatest defect is that we're selfish people. We can't help it. We're only human. But once again, through God, we're given a home in Heaven and made holy.
Well (not to be offensive to christians) in my opinion lifes greatest defect is the lie of "God" ... or more precisely false hope.
cause I believe it all to be a lie
Firefly 06-24-2008, 04:48 PM Well, that's okay. You can have your beliefs, and I can have my beliefs. No hard feelings. :D
If it was a lie, though, I wouldn't consider it the greatest defect. There are so many horrible things. Like the men, women and children in poor countries who starve all because of leaders who hoard resources. The hate crimes. The way we look at people funny just because their skin is a different color than ours.
Oh, there's one. Racism. That has to be one of the greatest defects. Or bigotry in general. Why must we be so intolerant of everybody else? As the famous lyrics by the Christian band dc Talk go, "We're colored people and we live in a tainted place."
Cogito 06-24-2008, 08:56 PM I agree with that. I have no use for bigotry or those who embrace it.
ValianceInEnd 06-24-2008, 09:06 PM I agree with that. I have no use for bigotry or those who embrace it.
I thoroughly agree.
The realization that I'll never pass as a native Chinese speaker.
Gone Wishing 06-24-2008, 11:07 PM The fact that I haven't won the lottery yet. >_<
:p
Rebekkamaria 06-25-2008, 02:03 AM I agree with Gone Wishing. :) *laughs*
Hmm... other than that, the fact that society encourages us to succeed rather than to be happy.
Lemex 06-25-2008, 03:02 AM Lifes greatist defect? The expectation of others.
Marloy 06-25-2008, 03:20 AM the fact that society encourages us to succeed rather than to be happy.
That's pretty true, but they pretty much force us to succeed instead of be happy because the only way to be happy in society to is to succeed. :p
Domoviye 06-25-2008, 08:54 AM I'm still not God. I really want to be God right now.
I'd smite half of my students to save my time and sanity.
Heather Louise 06-25-2008, 10:03 AM Life's greatest defect at the moment is the splitting headache I have from crying most of the day. Stupid injection time. :(
Firefly 06-25-2008, 10:03 AM I thought of another defect. Spiders. I had to take my dog out the front door this morning because a stupid spider made one of those revolting spiral webs in our back doorway.
I was bitten by a brown recluse once. Several times from the same spider, actually. And we went to the acute care clinic and the doctor said it was chiggers. Ummm...even without seeing the spider bites, you probably know that it wasn't chiggers since I lived in the middle of the desert.
Well, there's another one. Doctors who have something against saying "I don't know" so they start pulling random ailments out of their hat.
Cogito 06-25-2008, 10:16 AM Be glad your doctor wears a hat - you don't wanna know where the rest of them pull the idunno diagnoses from!
Crazy Ivan 06-25-2008, 05:12 PM Deer crossing the highway at night.
Darn it.
Firefly 06-25-2008, 05:55 PM Especially if they stop and jump around like freaks when they see the headlights. :p
Baywriter 06-25-2008, 06:33 PM Life's greatest defect is that everything has a defect.
I know. I just blew your minds. xD
Crazy Ivan 06-25-2008, 07:21 PM Mind! Mind! Come back! Don't blow away!
adamant 06-25-2008, 08:04 PM I believe life's greatest defect is unnecessary fear. It causes us to do what we feel is safe, depriving us of experiencing potentially life-changing events and circumstances. It has led to struggles between others simply because they appear different.
Fortunately, it can be overcome.

Amen. I just haven't figured out how to overcome it yet.
Firefly 06-26-2008, 08:18 AM I'm working on overcoming my fear. I'm afraid of pretty much everything. Thankfully, I have a good doctor who's helping me.
