I recently introduced my boyfriend to Asian pears. If you’ve never had one, they are really big and are shaped, textured, and even taste much more like an apple than a pear. I've heard them refered to as Chinese Apples.

He didn’t like it. I love them.

Are there any foods that you like which might be considered unusual where you live?

Oooh i love sushi! It's great stuff and the green pasty stuff is guacamole (and/or avacado), the pink stuff in the middle is crab meat..So delicious

Yeah, I like the wasabi. I'm down for REALLY hot stuff*. The ginger is just strange. Don't dig the texture. Most foods which I don't like, I don't like because of texture.


*When I was at university there was an awesome Thai restaraunt that served some items that were so hot, the server warned you at time of order that the item could not be returned if you couldn't handle it. I only ever ordered those items. :D

No, I think we're just talking about different things. I think you are talking about the items which comprise the actual sushi roll. The wasabi and ginger are served on the side.

I guess the easiest way for me to describe wasabi is it is sort of like a... condiment? lol. You eat it with sushi, but it doesn't usually make up the rolls.

And jeez! You're taste buds must be insane, haha. I myself enjoy hot foods.. but I don't know how well I could take ones that come with warnings...

That's not the end of the story! :D The husband of the owner, who was also the chef, came out on my third visit to the restaraunt to speak with me. I think the server told him that I was not Thai. Super nice guy (the chef.) He asked me if I wanted something off of the menu. So, I'm feeling a little like a rock-star and tell him, of course, I would love it! He brought me this salad, room temp, made with beef that had only looked at the grill it was so rare.

It was a gustatory epiphany. :cool:

wasabi is japanese horse radish.
I like it with other foods like roasts or steaks.

I love escargot husband and Dom say eeww everytime I order it.
I am not fond of curries too spicy with a spice I don't like just don't know which.

Sashimi, sushi, Asian pears all are delicious for most part of Asian, I think.

Chinese apples are nice in my opinion. I haven't had one in a long time though. Not seen them around so yeah....

But I was talking to my bf Dan, and was telling him how I like egg and bacon pies. He thought that was strange. I also like apple and kiwi pies. I have my own recipies for them as well. Other people think it is strange that I like to add granny smith apples to my soups and dill seeds. Adds a very distinct and smooth flacour if you ask me....

An unusual drink would be coffee with spearmint milk in it...mmmmmm very yummy :p

I've never heard of spearmint milk. Chocolate, even strawberry are common on my side of this big blue marble, but not spearmint. :cool:

I don't know of any unusual foods around here, Hatch green chile used to be unknown, but is now very popular.

My mom went to Malaysia a few years ago and told us all about the wonderful world of Durian Fruit. She was too afraid to eat it after smelling it. Has anyone eaten it?

I don't think I eat any unusual foods, but I'd like to point out that queso dip ( That white cheese from Mexican restaurants ) is god-like.

There are no unusual foods, just different opinions about food. :)

I love escargot husband and Dom say eeww everytime I order it.When I was in college (the first time), my girlfriend brought me to her parents' place one weekend, and the appetiser for dinner was escargot with garlic butter. It may have been some kind of test...

I had never had escargot, but even if it hadn't been that situation, I probably would have tried them. They were absolutely wonderful!

I have had escargot that were rubbery or tasted a bit off, but well-prepared, they are wonderful.
