...does any of you feel a little empty inside knowing it'll be a while until you find another Perfect Book? I've been trying to read five books since I finished my latest Perfect Book, but I keep having to stop after the third chapter or so because they are nowhere as great as my Perfect Book.

Oh... I know what you are saying...doesn't that suck? I hate it, because then every other book is compared to that great read!!

Oh gosh, yes!! I think I go into a little bit of a depression, to be quite honest. I get SO attached to characters - I almost feel like I'm grieving ;)
And then it makes me feel like I will never, ever, ever be able to write something half as good as the author did.

To be honest, I get more dejected because I know I'll never be able to write anything that good...

I don't get depressed. I just get a happy sated, and slightly tired feeling. By the next day I'm reading another one, or reading the same one over again just happy to be reading.

Instead of getting depressed, I invariably search Amazon for another by the same author.

Same thing happens to me, no matter how scintillating the read is, I always try to approach each book with a fresh perspective - but when I find something truly amazing, I always compare myself to it and think "one day, if I could just write something anywhere near as good...."

I totally understand. I usually shout out loud after a great book, and am left with an ache for it.. elated but sad to see it go.
I agree with Gone Wishing.. a great book is a shot in the arm. Maybe some day, I'll do one, too

Yep, me too. It's like postpartum depression. :(

I find this to be a negative way of looking at things. Reading the perfect book makes me happy because I know the potential for another one exists.

That's a good way to put it!
