View Full Version : Prospective job titles?
emily... 06-03-2008, 09:59 AM Okay, so lately, I've had a lot of people start on the "your going to be a.......when you grow up!" with me, so I wondered, what do, or did, people tell you, you were going to be when you grew up, and if you are grown, were they right? Any interesting stories?
Here, I'll start:
1. Preacher.
2. President.
3. Daycare worker.
4. Missionary.
5. Run an orphanage in foreign country.
5. Psychologist.
6. Vet.
7. Zookeeper.
8. Writer, "You're going to be the next S.E. Hinton!" (no joke)
Wreybies 06-03-2008, 10:01 AM I was told I would be a scientist or a writer.
I am an interpreter. :D Loves my job!
Rumpole40k 06-03-2008, 10:25 AM I had absolutly no clue what I wanted to do with my life.
I am a teacher.
Milady 06-03-2008, 11:05 AM I used to be told I was going to be a veterinarian/lawyer... but that I'd get my arse thrown in jail for contempt to court. Figure that one out.
The vet thing wouldn't work, either... I'm too squeamish and I'd cry too much.
ChimmyBear 06-03-2008, 11:21 AM Hmmm...I wanted to be a teacher when I was younger, but then as I got into my teens I wanted to go to law school.
Writing was always with me.
People would tell me that I should be a teacher...(which I am in school for)
A singer....(which I do in my spare time)
A nurse...they clearly lost their mind..:D
Scribe Rewan 06-03-2008, 11:30 AM I wanted to be a stand up comic, and am now (ametuer) and a writer, which to an extent I am too. I was told I would be many things, but they all involved writing, such as advertising (writing the slogans, tag lines etc) and writing for TV. I want to be a novelist, and I hope it works out!
Mousie 06-03-2008, 11:35 AM When I was little, I wanted to be a vet. Then, I wanted to be a writer, but now I know I can't write for crap, but I'm pretty good at screenwriting (which is still writing, but whatever). That probably won't work out, though. I'll probably end up being, like, a bag-girl at Whole Foods or something. I could probably do that :D
Cogito 06-03-2008, 11:53 AM 1. A burden on society (thank you stepfather)
2. A telephone operator (I was a very talkative kid)
3. A scientist (ding! My first real job was a research chemist)
4. A musician (never hear again after I took up clarinet - briefly)
5. A writer (not yet - but I was a real bookworm as a kid)
6. A frog (I spent a LOT of time snorkelling in the pond, from about age 3)
7. A math guy (I always had a knack for numbers)
8. An electrician (I had a lot of electronics projects)
Lots of others, but those stand out. Scientist/inventor/astronaut were always the ones I wanted to be, not necessarily in that order.
Titania 06-03-2008, 12:00 PM I think my favorite one was my history teacher telling me I was going to be a Christian preacher (and this was when I had just started going to church for the first time in my life).
I've gotten (that I can remember offhand):
Christian preacher, as mentioned above
writer
politician or diplomat
translator or interpreter
I was voted "Future World Leader" by my high school, if that counts
and "most likely to work at the UN" by a school group
rocket scientist
spy of some sort - that was after I started taking Arabic
lawyer
librarian... I think a lot of people picture me as a random scholar tucked away somewhere being antisocial... :p
As far as what I wanted to do, I wanted to be an archaeologist for a really long time. I've always imagined writing on the side, as a hobby and as catharsis, because I don't know if I'll ever be able to make my living off it. When I was really little I wanted to be an actress. I haven't really 'grown up' yet (just heading off to college this fall); but I'm currently planning to major in Comparative Literature and Arabic. We'll see what happens.
lessa 06-03-2008, 01:21 PM a low class of hooker. thanks dad.
a teacher
a mother
a companion for an old lady.
a woman alone in the world on welfare thanks again dad.
a fat bag lady.
well I made it to a wife and mother
Vertz 06-04-2008, 10:20 PM My mom said I would be a teacher because I would teach my stuffed animals stuff I had learned at school (when I was REALLY young). Oddly enough, I do plan on being a teacher.
Everyone in my graduating class had a "future job" section in the yearbook. My advisory said I would be a world class fencer. Likely not going to happen, since I haven't fenced seriously in about two years :P
ValianceInEnd 06-04-2008, 11:24 PM I would be thrilled out of my mind to be a film director. I'm going to try for it, but no guarantees.
I'd also love to be a Game Warden for the Arizona Game and Fish Department or a Park Ranger for the National Forrest Service.
