A Question for the Poets!

I'm curious. What poets you are reading right now or which poets do you read on a regular basis?

Right now, I'm reading a collection of Beat Poets. :)

Well I tend to read a lot of Shakespeare. A very inspirational man, I have read everything he has ever written and watched every movie that has ever been made. He is my absolute favourite poet. :) I read his work at least once a week.

as i'm pushing 70, the only poetry i read 'on purpose' now is the stuff aspiring poets need help with... i'd read all the best of the art's practioners from earliest childhood and the last of the current masters i delved into was maya angelou...

Poe and Keats - though, I don't really consider myself a poet.

I read novels from "Forgotten Realms" "Dragonlance" "Dungeons and Dragons" and just general stuff.

My reading is just general inspiration. I dont go looking for inspiration, thats where I find it!

Felony, I will try to see if that's at the library. One of my favorite poets, Nikki Giovanni wrote a poem for Tupac in her book Love Poems. :)

What are your writing goals? Do you submit your poetry to magazines? Or do you just write to write?

Well usually I just write to write, every so often I submit in a comp for the fun of it. But basically I write because I love to write.

I do aim one day to have my own poetry book published, but hey we can all dream can't we???

sadly, probably the only way you'll ever see your work in book form is for you to self-publish... traditional [= paying] book publishers don't take on the poetry of unknowns and most won't even bother with it if the poet is a household name, since the market for poetry is an infinitesimal one, compared to that for novels and non-fiction...

but you shouldn't let that stop you from writing, if that's what you love to do... if you want to become 'known' the only way to do that is to have your poems published in major publications often enough that you're noticed by the critics...

Well. Right now I'm going through Shamus Heaney's works, and I've enjoyed Keats, Coleridge, Byron, Wordsworth, Alexander Pope, Philip Larkin, T.S. Eliot, and Wilfred Owen.

But generally I prefer the Epics.
