Somebody needs to design a Writingforum.org T-shirt. I would definately sport that. What do you think? We could have people from all around the world wearing the shirts and it would make money for the site. With some of the artists on here we could even have a design contest.

I'd be happy to work on a design, though I'm not the most talented artist around

It'd be cool! Except, I don't think I can design more than a circle :p

Begs to differ, and proposes a motion to make Kitty official t-shirt designer.

We should have an t-shirt art contest!
A bunch of people could submit their artwork, and then we'd all vote.

You know what we could do, have member generated designs that are posted, and can be downloaded at a fee. People could print it on transfer paper, nad we wouldn't lose money for the tees themselves. Also, the individs could choose the style of shirt with a myriad of options with a finite cost to the site.

There are quite a few sites that offer uploading your own art and putting it on a tee.
You could probably just provide the art and upload it, then send us the link.

I'm in. I'd make some artwork too.

We could have www.zazzle.com (http://www.zazzle.com) print the shirts (stickers, mugs, etc...). They use a technology that embeds the ink into the fabric of the shirt, guaranteeing images won't fade like with a iron on. Better than silk-screening too. Loads of shirt types and colors. Decent price, especially if ordered in bulk. I had a t-shirt made by them, and it's top quality. Love wearing it. Great customer service and fast, fast shipping. Received my shirt in like 4 or 5 days from order time... at regular shipping speed. Could have it on their site for ordering and provide a link on writingforums.org!

The Mods should make it, that if you donate money you get a free T-shirt.

T-Shirt, sounds fun! :D

And commercials seem to think that paying for their product is free too, I don't know. :p

The Mods should make it, that if you donate money you get a free T-shirt.

Someone's going to have to flip the bill to buy the shirts and have them printed. So the donation will have to be large enough to cover the costs of the t-shirt, printing of shirt, shipping/handling to them and to you, etc. So the site owner will have to pre-order so many shirts to bring the cost down or take pre-orders to determine the amount of shirts they should purchase. The advantage to doing it this way is that the site owner can accept any donation amount (as long as it covers all the overhead costs) and ship a shirt to you. I wouldn't expect that you'll send in a $10 donation and get a shirt though. The disadvantage is that they now have to work for the donation by keeping records, preparing the shirt for shipping, going to the UPS store, storing the shirts, etc.

But if they put it on zazzle.com, they'll have an account there and receive so much per shirt sold. I think they can adjust the price to what they find reasonable. I don't think anyone should expect a t-shirt if they donate, say $5.00. This way they won't have to do any work, except designing the shirt online and setting up an account. The disadvantage is they won't be able to accept a donation amount beyond what is set into the cost of the shirt (their profit margin).

But if you really want to donate, then just get an address and send in a check to them. And then go and buy a shirt online that they set up.

Speaking of t-shirt ... what about a pen? :D

or a straight jacket?

seriously, I'd buy one of them!

Cogito

Yes, as witch wyzwurd pointed out, there are logistical issues that would have to be worked out to make this possible - pricing, how to order and ship, how to make sure it is not a drain on the site's finances - quite beyond the designing of the shirt.

I'll gladly leave those considerations to Daniel to ponder. :)

I'd buy one! I like the idea of being able to download the design for a fee. That way you can choose what you want to put it on, T Shirt, Sweatshirt, etc.

Daniel

It's not a bad idea, though I am a bit skeptical that enough people would be willing to buy the shirt to make it worth the trouble. That being said though, I do know a few places where I can get decently-priced custom tshirts. The only problem would be coming up with the design.

Torana

If you ran a contest and got members to design the image to go on the t-shirts, you could then put up a poll. You could then choose out of the top favourites yourself.

Also, you could do a poll and see how many people would be interested in buying a t-shirt, or get them to put their names down for one and not order them until you have a decent number of people that would like to purchase one.

That is if you wanted to go ahead with it. Though I would be skeptical about it until you have a larger member base that is rather active. At the moment, we do have a large member base, but not a overly large active member base as yet. Maybe wait it out until a bit further down the track.

I'd buy it, anything to look like a nerd in the eye of the public!
