http://www.iusedtobelieve.com/random/

not sure if i'm allowed to post some examples, but here's a few: (please delete them if i err)

"I used to believe that the automatic doors had people inside them that would operate them so whenever they opened I would say "thank you" and kiss the doors cuz I felt sorry for the people that had to work in them forever."
-Alyssa

"I used to believe that the reason married couples had the same last name was because you could only marry someone who had your last name. I was quite daunted by the task of not only finding someone I wanted to marry, but finding someone I wanted to marry that had my last name."
-Anon

"I used to believe that if a label said free, like fat 'free' or sodium 'free', the company selling the food would pay for all of the fat or sodium in the food. I didnt realize that there was actually no fat in the product and then started to think food companies were cheap telling you they would pay for a portion of the food and not even put it in. I believed this until I was 12."
-Sammy

"When I was little, my older sister and I were looking at a sunset. She told me that the sky was red from the blood of all the dead people in heaven. I believed that for a long time."
-Mary

"Whenever I was bad, my mom would ask, "Do you want a spanking?!" I thought a "spanking" was when she and I would wear ninja suits and have a swordfight to the death. Since I didn't want to die that way, I always said no."

This one is fairly strange....I used to believe (I came up with this at age four when my mom was pregnant) that babies started in that bit of fat between your thumb and forefinger of the hand that you wrote with, and that once it got too big to fit in there you would just rub your belly button to move it to your tummy (which also explained why we had belly buttons), and so for at least a year, I wouldn't let anyone touch that part of my hand, for fear it could hurt my baby.

Not the first time I mention this on the site, but...

I used to believe that marshmallows grow on trees.

I was convinced that, on the other side of the woods that made up the lawn of my childhood home, egypt was ready and waiting for me to explore it.

I was crushed when I found out it was just woods for hundreds of miles.

and some more selections from that site:

i used to think that when people sang in foreign languages they were just singing pretend words that they made up as they went along. i wasn't pleased because i thought i'd invented that game.

When I was really little I believed that if the hazard lights turned on when you were driving, the car would split in half and one half would turn left and the other right. Needless to say I was terrified of sitting in the middle.
-Anghi

When I was five I KNEW that the Care Bears lived in the clouds and was devastated when my much more 'mature' cousin, Nigel, told me that when there was a storm or it rained, all the Care Bears fell out of the clouds to their death. It still hurts to think about it.
-Sarah

When I went to nursery school we got to drink milk or water at certain times of day. I used to think that if you mixed them together, and drank it, you would turn into a dinosaur. I have no idea why...
-Matt

I used to believe that dogs were born in the sky and would fall to earth by parachute, dropping into homes wherever they were needed.

When I was none but a wee little tot, I used to believe that kitties went to school. I also believed that they were the protectors of the world. I had seen this cat save a boy on TV the day before, so I worshiped my cat for the longest time.
Thus I remembered that and started my most recent story based off that. :P

I have an astigmitism in my left eye, so I couldn't see as well in it. When I was younger, I thought everyone was right or left sided, meaning their eyes worked better, they used that hand, their legs were stronger on that side...etc.

I know someone who believed, up until the age of 16, that her breasts were her lungs....

No joke.

I used to believe that *takes a deep breath* Asia was called Russia, the United States was another name for North America and that Asia was another name for South America (kind of like fall and autumn), that Antarctica was on the top of the world, and that Europe was called Britain. Also, I could never remember Africa's name.
For some reason, Australia is the only one I've always had right. Go figger.

I grew up in a very small town where we had natives, and white people.
We went out to Rondeau Park every weekend for swimming and boating.
When I was 5 I saw the government dock full of fishermen.
Now I had never seen a black person before. I asked my mom where they were from.
She said she didn't know.
Now me being me cute and mouthy and friendly I went along and asked each man
where they were from.
They all came from Detroit. Cat fish were abundant and the water cleaner than on the States side.
So for many years I assumed that all black people came from Detroit Michigan.

I used to believe that the UPS organization was like an ice cream truck for adults, where the truck drove by and randomly give out surprise packages. Also, I called it the "ups truck", as in "ups and downs".

I used to believe when I was in kindergarten that when I got off the school bus at my house, all the other kids ceased to exist and only existed again when I got back on the bus the next morning. My parents and family and everyone else ceased to exist unless I was there. It was first grade before I found out I wasn't the center of the universe.
I'm still trying to deal with it. :D

I used to believe that Prince's father was named 'Hugo'.

(Because in When Doves Cry, I thought he sang "maybe I'm just like my father - Hugo").
