We do a lot of fishing so we know the types of fish.
Usually they are the same from Canada to the States.
But the one or two fish just don't add up.
We have Pike or Northern Pike.
We have Pickerel or Walleye.
But people from the states call a fish walleye pike.
they are two different breeds.
We went to a restaurant and on the menu they had
walleye pike.
can someone tell me what a walleye pike is.
Pike is lean and extremely boney. most people toss them back.
Pickerel is fatty and few bones. they are a preferred fish.
If anyone can explain this to me I would be extremely grateful.

The pike that I know from my childhood in Nebraska are as you desribed them. Pretty much fresh-water barracuda. I once caught a muskie that scared the crap out of me and then a paddlefish that creeped me out. Both were caught on the Platt river.
