This is a thread to tell your favorite heroes and why. These can be from any form of media. I'll get things started.

Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VII-Advent Children: I like him becuase he has a realistic personality. He isn't a larger than life character, instead he just does what he thinks he has too, and unlike some other heroes, he doesn't always have to answer to problems.

Colonel Saul Rybok.

In keeping with Final Fantasy, I'd have to say Terra from FFVI, because she can turn into a flaming, flying, Kefka but-kicking, chick.

FF7 brings back fond memories. Used to get blisters trying to grab onto a swinging metal thing in the slums in order to put batteries into a machine just to move a fan so I could get to the other side, oh, and because of Tifa's limit break chain. ;/

As for heroes (or anti-hero?) I'd say V, from V for Vendetta, although he's more anarchist than hero, but he does his deed and does it well and with a literary flourish that rivals Bill Shakespeare too. I also like his batch of toys: Batman has his batarang, V has explosives. :D

First off, I hated that swinging metal pipe thing. It took me forever to time my jump right. Also, V is a great hero, in both his movie and graphic novel.

Excluding superheroes, I'd have to say Jean Luc Picard is among them. I'm thinking of one particular episode, entitled "Who Watches the Watchers". In it, he stands and lets himself be shot, potentially even killed, to uphold the Prime Directive.

Ged From the Earthsea trilogy. Because he is an amazing sorcerer.
Jon Snow , Arya , Brianne of Tarth , DaenarysFrom A Song of Ice and Fire series. They all just have so much depth are none of them are stereotypical.
Eowyn From LOTR. Most people prefer Arwen , but I find her boring. Eowyn is a great fantasy heroine in my opinion.
RikkuFinal Fantasy X . I like cutesy bubbly characters even if others find them annoying.
Drizzt Another part of my drow obsession.
Phedre / Joscelin From Kushiel's Dart. Great and totally unique characters.
The Aes Sedai granted some of them are evil . But ever since I've been reading Wheel of Time , I have wanted to be an Aes Sedai

Most definitely. I got into V for Vendetta late. Saw the movie first because a guy friend forced me to. I loved it, but felt something lacking, and then drifted toward the comics, which filled the void.

I'm still reading them now.

Second off, though this may be slightly OT, on your way to the Shinra Headquarters to rescue Aeris, did you bust in through the front with all your guns (Barret's), fists (Tifa's) and blades (Cloud's) in full glory, and start rushing in at the soldiers like a maniac? Or did you crawl up the 1500!flights of stairs through the back?

Just trying to gauge your character through useless FF7 events, lol.

Im going to have to agree with you but for different reasons.
Ged because he had so much depth and humanity, whilst being almost superhuman.
Aes Sedai cause they're wikid cool.
And Kvothe from "The name of the wind" because hes real, tangible, and utterly incredible.

LOL! I'm afraid I have to disagree and go with Captain Kirk and his act first think later. ;) Kirk for me is the better of the Star Trek Captains and falls into the Fave Hero.

Probably any of Terry Pratchett's heroes (even including- heck, especially including- Rincewind). =P

I've a fair few favourite heroes from different mediums. I'll just pick one from each, though. ;)

The Maxx - both in his comic book ventures and the brilliant animated TV series, the Maxx is quite simply awesome. Maybe he's a freaking huge super hero that fights to protect The Jungle Queen in Pangaea, or maybe he's a delusional, lonely and drunk homeless guy that has an odd attachment to his social worker. Either way, he rocks (and Mr Gone has one of the coolest names for a villain ever, in my opinion, lol).

Buffy - I can sum up why I like Buffy with a quote from the original movie:
Pike: You're not like other girls
Buffy: Yes I am. :)

Otori Takeo and Otori Shigeru - Shigeru slightly pips Takeo at the post for me, but I adore them both so I have to include them both. Shigeru because he was patient, wise, quietly intense and humble - which really struck a chord with me, and Takeo because he was almost the polar opposite of that.

Yuri - the hero of the JRPG Shadowhearts and its sequel, Shadowhearts: Covenant. Yuri is typical of a lot of JRPG main characters, but the demons of malice that possess him are just damn cool, and in Covenant (which is actually a true continuation of the original storyline, something uncommon in any RPG series) - well, let's just say that it's the only computer game ever that's gotten me to cry.

I agree, Shadow Hearts: Covenant has some really sad parts, and Yuri is awesome.

I have to completely agree with that. I particularly liked Shigeru after reading Heaven's Net is Wide, especially how he was just as rash as Takeo but learned patience.

I also liked Richard Rahl, from the Goodkind's Sword of Truth Series. He was just a nice, likable guy, who's love and dedication really struck home.

Why does everyone love Drizzt so much? I could never get past the first chapter of the first book . . .

BOOKS
Aragorn, because he seemed much more interesting in the books than on the big screen . . .
Raistlin Majere, because he's so darned cool! (From the Dragonlance series)
Lord Soth, even though he's quite evil. He did inspire my awesome avatar . . .

MOVIES // TV
Frodo Baggins, due to my fan girl love of cute, big-eyed hobbits.
Anakin Skywalker For some reason, I just love heroes who slowly drift from the path of good. Hehe.

VIDEO GAMES
Link, due to his amazing skillz with almost any weapon. ^.^
Any character that I create, because I have mad creation skillz! lol

(Before you begin to debate me, I amd deliberately being flip. Or as Tom Cruise would say, I'm being glib.)

Mine is Batman. :)

And, no, I am not one of those bandwagon DK Batman fans. I have loved and cherished Batman since I was about four, when I used to obsess over the older Batman movies, read my brothers old Batman comics, and also adore the Batman: the Animated Series cartoon. Best cartoon ever. I still watch it almost daily. I want to live in Gotham City and be rescued by Batman. Not ashamed. :)
