View Full Version : Fiftieth Poetry Contest Voting!
Banzai 08-10-2008, 05:32 PM ...has begun!
It will last five days, ending on 15th August 2008.
The theme was (courtesy of Cogito): The Writer's Quill
The three words (courtesy of Torana), to be included in the poem, were:
* Verbose- (Adjective) Abounding in words, containing more words than necessary. Long winded, or windy.
* Prosody- (Noun) (linguistics) The study of rhythm, intonation, stress, and related attributes in speech or (poetry) The study of poetic meter; the patterns of sounds and rhythms in verse.
* Onomatopoeia- (Noun) The property of a word of sounding like what it represents or a word which has the property of onomatopoeia, such as "moo" or "hiss".
(All definitions courtesy of wiktionary)
Variations on these words (e.g. onomatopoeic instead of onomatopoeia, as an adjective rather than a noun) were acceptable.
Please read the entries here (http://www.writingforums.org/showthread.php?t=13419), and vote for your favourite.

Gannon 08-12-2008, 10:50 AM Go support the site and your fellow members by voting to help avoid the 5 way tie!
Raven 08-12-2008, 10:56 AM I've voted. ;)
Cogito 08-12-2008, 11:05 AM Oh, I have too! :)
Not an easy choice, several great entries.
Raven 08-12-2008, 11:11 AM I'd actuially decided before the voting poll was up. I've been reading them as they've been posted and there was one I really liked.
They were all good. but like Big brother You've gotta pick.
Banzai 08-12-2008, 11:25 AM Actually, I just ignore Big Brother in the hope it will go away...
But I've voted :)
Raven 08-12-2008, 11:27 AM LMAO yes I wish I could. But my eldest daughter loves it. And living the three women well three blokes still lose out to three women.
Cogito 08-12-2008, 12:08 PM Ahh, I thought you were speaking in Orwellian terms.
ParanormalWriter 08-12-2008, 04:02 PM I've got my vote in, but it was a hard choice. ;)
Baywriter 08-13-2008, 10:16 AM Just a note. Don't vote for the one with the most votes because you don't feel like reading all the entries and ASSUME it's the best. Thanks. ^^
AnonymousWriter 08-13-2008, 12:49 PM Just a note. Don't vote for the one with the most votes because you don't feel like reading all the entries and ASSUME it's the best. Thanks. ^^
 I couldn't see how many votes each entry had until I had voted.
It was a hard choice. If I could, several entries would have got my vote.
Baywriter 08-13-2008, 01:53 PM There are some I know with more than one account that have done that. >.<
Anyway, I agree that it was definitely a hard choice. So many wonderful entries.
Cogito 08-13-2008, 01:58 PM Multiple accounts are grounds for an infraction or a ban when discovered.
Banzai 08-14-2008, 04:15 AM Keep on voting people... Less than two days left.
FantasyWitch 08-14-2008, 04:38 AM If I didn't know better baywriter I'd say your trying to moan for morevotes ;)

Baywriter 08-14-2008, 09:13 AM Ha, ha. No, I just think every piece should be given a fair chance, which is why I've always prefered a judging system to a poll. It's more fair, in my opinion because the judges HAVE to read every piece, discuss, and agree. For all we know, some voters in the poll could be voting based on title, or they could be voting for their friends. I'm not saying that's actually going on, since I believe the members of this site are far more respectable than that, but there's always that chance.
FantasyWitch 08-14-2008, 11:03 AM I agree, but I have yet to meet anyone on the site (except for the newbies) who would do that... I feel my writing is in capible hands!
Cogito 08-14-2008, 12:29 PM Polls are the most practical for the "weekly" contests. If people are that inclined to cheat, that's just plain pathetic.
For cash contests the panel approach reduces the possibilities for cheating, but it's much harder to pull together.
32 votes as of right now...not bad participation. The bigger problem is all the good entries. Difficult to choose.
Banzai 08-15-2008, 02:26 AM Less than a day left, and it's tied... Get your votes in, people!
Torana 08-15-2008, 05:00 AM We now have a 3 way tie. Get voting people!!!!!!! NOW!
Or it is off with your heads!
Banzai 08-15-2008, 12:47 PM Only a few hours left....
If it end in a tie, will there be a three way re-vote?
Banzai 08-15-2008, 03:24 PM Undecided. At this point, I think there will be (at least) a day pause before anything happens, so I can figure out what to do :p Of course, someone could always just go and vote, to break the tie :p
Wreybies 08-15-2008, 03:30 PM Voted! :)
Oh, bad timing Wreybies...now those who didn't win will know who to blame. Look out for hate mail! LOL
