Over the last couple of days I've been watching the short-lived TV series Firefly, and it's amazing. I just finished all 14 episodes and the movie, and I'd have to say it's one of my favorite shows of all time.

Anybody else like this amazing show? If you haven't seen it, I suggest you do. It's sci-fi, but at times you forget it, because it's not real heavy-handed about that stuff.

Seriously one of the best television shows in a long time. Scifi or otherwise.

I know! Why'd they have to go and cancel it?

My brother and I (semi) cried when...that character died.

w00t! Another Browncoat joins the fold! ;)

Firefly was indeed an awesome show - canceled due to lack of support, even though many fans around the world rallied and even started a fund to pay for the production of the show themselves... The good thing is, because of devotion like that, we got Serenity. Small consolation, but consolation none the less.

and there is talk of Whedon doing a sequel, but it will be probably 2010 before he can do it...and he's been making rumbles about himself

Lol I got bought the firefly series at Christmas and I loved it! Serenity has been a fave film of mine since I first watched it.

Serenity and firefly are both awesome! One of the best sci-fi shows ever, along with Farscape :)

I never watched enough of farscape... but I love the other two. I think I owe thanks to you for the firefly DVDs though :p

There were plans to do a second series named Serenity due to red tape and net work changes but nothing else has been reported nor mentioned from whedons site. I've heard the rumours of a sequal movie but again fallen into silence. I know Whedon is eager to bring it back as much as he can.

I was certainly mortified when it was cancelled I loved that show. Its a big fave of mine such a magical series and a great movie. Sad ending about losing two of the characters but makes room for two newbies. ;) shoul;d anything comeback.
I know for a fact that all the cast Nathan Fillion and Co. have always said they will return without a doubt should Whedon get a go ahead.

But a truly magical show. One of its kind.

At the moment, Fox (who own the rights to the series) won't bring the series back. However, they also won't sell it to a competitor for a reasonable price. That's why you haven't seen a comeback.

Raven

hmmm. I figured something of sorts. Though it makes no sense in holding it when the following is still craving a return.

Makes me proud to be a Brown Coat when all odds are stacked we still fight on.

Isn't that the definition of a browncoat?

The Alliance said they were goin’ to waltz through Serenity Valley, and we choked ‘em with those words. We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty.

^^ Wash has my favourite scene in the whole series (I have tons of favourite quotes, generally by Mal...), but the scene where he's playing around with the two plastic dinosaurs, then says "Curse your sudden yet inevitable betrayal!"

Classic. :D

Raven

lmao.
I loved the episode when Wash and Mal are held captive byAdelai Niska Some very classic lines and a one off magical episode. ;)

I truly miss this show. even though Iown the box set and movie its not the same only been a 14 run series.

My favorite line is River's: "I can kill you with my brain."

Raven
08-12-2008, 06:39 AM
Yeah gotta love the looks she gets when she speaks from the others especially as she starts kicking the crap out of everyone in the film and they say to Mal do you know her. lol.

Magical.

Kratos

And there's another part.

Wash: You mean...like telepathy? That sounds like something out of science fiction!
Zoe: Honey, we live in a spaceship.

Raven
08-12-2008, 06:45 AM
"Do you wanna take command of the ship"

"Yeah."

"Well... You can't."

Gone Wishing
08-12-2008, 06:51 AM
While we're at it..

"He tried to kill me - and I don't like people that try to kill me, not in general."

"If someone tries to kill you, you try to kill them right back."

Both classic Mal. :)

I agree with Raven.. check my old signature for proof lol.

I love both the series and the film, but the only problem is everytime I watch the series again it's an amazing experience but it's also really sad, because I know that those 14 episodes are all there are. Bloody networks.

Hehe... Firefly quotes :p

Book: If you take sexual advantage of her, you're going to burn in a very special level of Hell. A level they reserve for child molesters and people who talk at the theater. [Walking away, pauses and looks at Mal] ...the special hell.
...
Saffron: Leave me at the nearest port. Never look upon me again. I'll make my way with the strength that you've taught me. Only let me have my wedding night.
Mal: [resignedly] Oh, I'm gonna go to the special hell.

[Jayne is demanding that Wash take off for the delivery without Mal and Zoe.]
Jayne: You know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I go get and beat you with 'til you understand who's in ruttin' command here! Now we're finishing this deal, and then maybe -- MAYBE we'll come back for those morons... got themselves caught... and you can't change that by getting all... bendy.
Wash: All what?
Jayne: You got the light... from the console to keep you... lifting you up... they shine like... [starts grabbing at the air] little angels...
[Jayne promptly falls flat onto the floor.]
Wash: Did he just go crazy and fall asleep?
Simon: I told him to sit down.

Kratos

Jayne: Yeah, and if wishes were horses, we'd all be eatin' steak.

Can't believe I missed this thread! Firefly and Serenity...top notch entertainment. Great characters and storylines.

I found the pattern online and am having someone knit a "Jayne Hat" for my wife for Christmas. A surprise she'll enjoy (understatement).

"A man walks down the street in that hat, people know he's not afraid of anything."

But my all time favourite Firefly/Serenity quote((subject to change upon subsequent viewings)):

Zoe: "Preacher, don't the Bible have some pretty specific things to say about killing?

Book: "Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps."

Oh, man, please please pleeeease can I have the link pleeease?

So yeah, I wish I had been around when this thread was made so I could say: Browncoats forever! I love this series, made my boyfriend watch it (he loved it too), and while I am sad at the unlikeliness of any continuations, I do enjoy reading the comic books they still publish (seriously!) and also look forward to Joss Whedon's newest show Dollhouse.

I didn't watch it originally ( I wasn't all that old and don't even really remember it being on tv, much less watching it) but plan to go through it via netflix, along with x-files and burn notice.

I just started watching the episodes today (on YouTube, haha). Currently, I'm watching on number six, also known as "I'm going to the special hell" -- I thought that so many time because Christina Hendricks is gorgeous. It's a fun series, but I sometimes get annoyed at the dialog choices (though there are quite a few quotables).

Made me think of Crazy Ivan when they did the maneuver, but I remembered you chose that name because you're Ivan and you're crazy. Then you said you later learned about it being a Russian ship. And now, if you didn't remember, I'm telling you once again that it was the 180 degree turn they used to avoid the Reavers. Yeah.

Post Script: I really want to get some boots like Mal.

Though I'm not sure how big a role he has, I spotted Book in a new movie staring Samuel L. Jackson. It was called Lakeview Terrace. Perhaps we'll see the other characters more often, and it'll come full circle, and gain more support for Firefly. Who knows...

They're making a new comics series about Book. Maybe we can find out why Early say he's not really a shepherd.

Actually, they revealed that at a convention. Turns out he was once an Operative. Oh come on, you DIDN'T see that coming?

I kind of figured he was. There was so much that could have been done with the show. The movie was good but upset me because it left me with more questions.

I just realized there was a comic but I am too late to get itno it. I really wish they would start writting books on this one. This was one of my favorite space shows since Lexx and Farscape.

I have to say I hate the fact that Book and Walsh died I liked them a lot.

I hope that if it comes back the original crew is back as well
