I'm having a sleepover with a mate tonight - we want to watch a scary movie but my mam checks them over first to make sure they're suitable...language and such doesn't really matter, but too much gore or anything disturbing like The Exorcist isn't permitted lol...can you guys recommend anything? Ta in advance. :)

OOOO I know!
Though you've probably seen it.
How about the 6th sense? That has scary scenes but it's not blood and guts.
Plus the twist at the end is fabulous.
Hmmm...It's hard to think really.
garh, lemme work on it - i'll get back to yah :D

Kind of a tough call, because horror is by nature disturbing.

What about The Shining (the Jack Nicholson version)?

There is a scene with nudity in it, but there isn't much gore.

(btw, I fixed the thread title for you, so your oops post was no longer needed)

Right here's a few I can think of...
(you've prolly seen these though)

Shaun of the dead - Very funny film, the gore is lame for comedic effect.

The haunting - Bit cheesey, kinda old - has catherine zita jones and liam neeson - but when i first watched it years and years ago It scared the crap out of me.

28 days later - Zombie film, cant remember if there's any "gore" as such..probably just biting zombies.

jeepers creepers -Cheesey, I dont think you see any gore. Or if you do, not much.

Boogeyman - It's rubbish, but there are scary parts and at your age you'd prolly find it scarier than I did. The acting is poor though.

signs - blegh.

I think "The haunting" Would be a good choice - sure, it's not that plausible or anything but it's scary and there isnt any gore.

Hope that helps - I tried to think of modern ones instead of the cheesey old draculas :D
If I think of any more i'll let yah know.

Any of the "Alien" movies, especially the first one. It's possible they may have already seen them, but those movies are all excellent examples of "clean" scary movies. There's only a little bit of cussing, the violence is "alien" which displaces it enough from daily life that it won't cause bad nightmares, and sex is only alluded to. And they will scare you right out of your seat. ;)

I hope this was helpful. yours in Chaos, Scarlett

I doubt the Alien movies will get past a parental filter. I know it seems daft, but they're all 18s. So is the Shining (and also we don't want to terrify the poor girl too much :p)

Not really all that scary and I don't know if it would necessarily be classified as a horror film, but I Am Legend was half-decent. Their isn't really any explicit violence, barely any language, and no sex in the film. Theirs a few good "jump-out" scares in the film with some zombie-ish creatures, but nothing thats going to emotionally scar you.

Actually, yeah. I Am Legend is a good one.

Blair Witch Project.
Amityville Horror - this one gave me the creeps a bit.
The Shining - it isn't too scary.
One of the Scream films? Although people do get cut up a bit in that, it's nothing too horiffic imo.

28 Days Later isn't too gory if I remember correctly.

Stir of Echoes with Kevin Bacon.

A pretty scary non-slasher type movie.

I'll second I am Legend, I love that movie.

Good luck, and enjoy your movie.

I really liked Shutter, the original version. It's in chinese though, so you have to read subtitles, but after a while, you don't really notice that anymore.

Mr. Boogedy is a Disney produced scary movie that my children loved. It got several nomimations for industry awards and is available cheap. Here is a review site for the movie:

Its genre is "Comedy/Family/Horror". Hope this helps.
