Limits to added text

Is there any hard limit on how much should one impose his own style over the reviewed text?

During a review I've felt inclined to add an entire sentence to a paragraph. I finally removed it and left just a comment about what could be added at that point.

While reviewing (or translating) a professional work I must avoid adding content, but maybe in the forum anything that may help is welcome.

Your purpose should not be to rewrite the author's work. But if there is a change you feel is needed, by all means suggest it.

I have occasionally suggested a sample sentence or two, along with a mention of what I feel it addresses and why.
