Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 08:52 AM I was thinking about what we don't have on this forum yet and I decided that there wasn't enough to stretch out brain to it's limits (or just make ourselves laugh at how silly we can be.) So I present to you:
THE RIDDLES, PUZZLES AND ILLUSIONS THREAD!
I will post a few to get your started. You can have a crack at them or post your own.
Riddle#1:
What row of numbers comes next?
1
11
21
1211
111221
312211
13112221
Riddle#2:
A woman has 7 children, half of them are boys.
How can this be possible?
Answer: All the children are male. Half of them are male, and so is the other half! (Solved by Banzai.)
Gannon 05-02-2007, 09:30 AM Riddle #2 - in saying that a woman has seven children you merely infer that she has at least seven children hence it would be perfectly possible for half of her sum total of children to be male (providing she had an equal amount of children).
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 09:42 AM Gannon, Nope. She has seven children in total. =)
Gannon 05-02-2007, 10:09 AM Them refers to the children plus the woman - therefore 4 male 4 female?
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 10:23 AM You were closer with your first guess...
Evelyn 05-02-2007, 10:37 AM One of the kids is a hermaphrodite.
Banzai 05-02-2007, 10:40 AM All of the children are male. Easy.
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 10:41 AM Now that would be too obvious, wouldn't it? Wrong. ;P
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 10:41 AM All of the children are male. Easy.
Correct! =D
Riddle#3:
Read my riddle, I pray. What God never sees, what the king seldom sees, and what we see every day. What is it?
Answer: An equal. (Solved by Banzai.)
Banzai 05-02-2007, 10:43 AM Always old, sometimes new,
Never sad, sometimes blue.
Never empty, sometimes full,
never pushes, always pulls.
What am I?
Banzai 05-02-2007, 10:44 AM Oh, are you in charge of the riddling? Okay :D
And I think the answer to yours is an equal, or a superior, or something like that.
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 10:48 AM You can post riddles too. ^^ You are all my equals, post away! xD
You were right in your first guess. =) Damn you are good! xD I must find some harder ones!
But first to pick at the riddle you posted...
Edit: Is it the ocean?
Banzai 05-02-2007, 11:00 AM Nope, but kinda along the right lines (ish).
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 11:02 AM A river then? xD
Riddle#4:
Four cars come to a four way stop, all coming from a different direction. They can't decide who got there first, so they all go forward at the same time. They do not crash into each other, but all four cars go. How is this possible?
Answe: They all turn Left(England)/Right(America) (solved by Banzai)
Evelyn 05-02-2007, 11:23 AM Uh, they all proceed through the intersection at different speeds? One car starts off slowly, the car to its right goes somewhat faster, the car to its right goes even faster, and the fourth car is a Lamborghini that zips through just missing the front bumper of the first car?
I'm no good at riddles (as you can tell :), so I'll ask a dumb old math test question:
What is 100% of 37?
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 11:28 AM Wrong. xD Made me laugh though. =D
37? D= I got a B in my GCSE maths (Even though I left my calculator at home on the calculator paper...)... I hope I'm right. xD
Banzai 05-02-2007, 11:54 AM I'm not sure about your riddle, but the answer to mine isn't a river :p
I'll have to think a little longer on yours.
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 12:12 PM The moon! The moon is old and there can be a new moon. There can also be a blue moon and blue can mean sad but rock has no emotions. The moon can be full but not empty. And it pulls at the tide (ocean). =D
Banzai 05-02-2007, 12:28 PM Well done, Alice :D
Banzai 05-02-2007, 12:28 PM Oh, and in answer to yours, do they all turn left?
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 12:33 PM If you are in England, yes. xD Well done!
Riddle#5:
With a little detective work and deep thought, the following facts can make an accurate statement. Can you figure it out?
11 is a race horse
12 is 12
1111 race
12112
Answer:
11 is a race horse
12 is one too
11 won one race
12 won one too. (Solved by Banzai)
Banzai 05-02-2007, 02:21 PM I think I have it. Is it to do with phonetics?
11 is a race horse
12 is "one two (too)"
11 "one one (won one)" race
12 "one one two (won one too)
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 02:31 PM Well done!
A shiny penny to you if you can answer riddle #1. xD
Banzai 05-02-2007, 02:34 PM See, that's the one that's bothering me. I need more time to think on it, like the sad individual I am.
(And I swear this was in the Lounge before. I sense the unseen hand of a Mod moving....)
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 02:36 PM They can move my threads but they'll never move my soul!!! *Shakes fist*
I enjoy watching people suffer over riddles. >=] Send me a picture of your perplexed expression! Mwahahaaaa.
Riddle#6:
If you cross out all unnecessary letters in the following string of letters, a logical sentence will remain. Can you see it?
AALLLOUGNINCEACELSSSEANRYTELNETCTEERS
Answer: If you take on the letters in the phrase "All Unnecessary letters" you are left with the words "A logical sentence." (Solved by Banzai xD)
Banzai 05-02-2007, 02:57 PM Lol. That's a good one Alice.
If you take out the letters in the sentance "all unnecessary letters', then you are lft with letters spelling out "a logical sentance". That about right?
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 03:00 PM Yeah. xD
If you can't figure out the first one I'm gonna use that to trick everyone! xD
I shall not be thwarted!
Riddle#7:
A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose between three rooms. The first is full of raging fires, the second is full of assassins with loaded guns, and the third is full of lions that haven't eaten in 3 years. Which room is safest for him?
The Spartan 05-02-2007, 03:08 PM That's an easy one Alice - The one with the lions, since they would all be dead.
But the others prior were great. Where did you find them..?
Ah yes, I'd better ask a riddle too:
I have a very well-made barrel I wish to half-fill with water, but I have nothing to measure with... Neither volume nor height nor length.
How do I do it..?
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 03:28 PM The Spartan, I got them from Riddlenut.com. =)
If you tip the barrel on it's edge it will be half full when the liquid touches the lip and covers the base of the barrel..
The Spartan 05-02-2007, 03:42 PM Damn you, He's absolutely right folks.:)
Okay another that I made up myself. You might try it at home.
I fill the sink with water, up almost to the brim. I have no plug, nor anything else that would serve as a plug. In fact there is nothing within reach at all.
How do I stop the water running away..?
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 03:46 PM *She.
xD
Yay! I'm not an expert in measuring... I just have a way of remembering stuff that I probably will never need to use...
Banzai 05-02-2007, 04:00 PM Leave the tap running?
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 04:05 PM Gawd... Um... I have no idea... Lemme read it again. xD
Riddle#8?:
What is it that when you take away the whole, you still have some left over?
Alice in Wonderland 05-02-2007, 04:06 PM Run the tap as fast as the water is leaving the sink?
Or put your hand in the plug hole. xD
The Spartan 05-03-2007, 01:16 AM It is something to do with your hand, but not using it as a plug - water would still slip away through your fingers.
You don't have to leave the tap running. But you will eventually get tired.
Alice in Wonderland 05-03-2007, 08:54 AM Put your hand in the water and swill it around at a constant speed? I'm only saying that because you said it would make you tired. xD
The Spartan 05-03-2007, 03:08 PM Close enough - If you swirl the water around swiftly enough, centripetal force keeps it clear of the plughole, and none runs out.
Banzai 05-03-2007, 03:11 PM That's a bit physicy for my liking.
Banzai 05-03-2007, 03:12 PM A dozen Royals gathered round,
Entertained by two who clowned.
Each King there had servants ten,
Though none of them were also men.
The lowest servant sometimes might,
Defeat the King in a fair fight.
A weapon stout, a priceless jewel,
The beat of life, a farmer's tool.
What is it talking about?
A bit easy, I know, but it's all I can think of at the moment.
Alice in Wonderland 05-03-2007, 03:13 PM Haha! xD
I was right. ^^ I feel smarty-pantsy now... 8P
Banzai: A deck of cards.!
Banzai 05-03-2007, 03:15 PM Right you are, Alice :)
A headless man had a letter to write;
It was read by a man who’d lost his sight;
The dumb repeated word for word;
The deaf was he who listened and heard.
Alice in Wonderland 05-03-2007, 03:17 PM That's a tough one... Is there a lot of double meaning to it?
Riddle#9:
Old Mr. Tidy was found dead in his study by Mr. Fiend. Mr. Fiend recounted his dismal discovery to the police. "I was walking by Mr. Tidy`s house when I thought I would just pop in for a visit. I noticed his study light was on and I decided to peek in from the outside to see if he was in there. There was frost on the window, so I had to wipe it away to see inside. That is when I saw his body. So I kicked in the front door to confirm my suspicions of foul play. I called the police immediately afterward." The officer immediately arrested Mr. Fiend for the murder of Mr. Tidy. How did he know Mr. Fiend was lying?
Alice in Wonderland 05-03-2007, 03:26 PM Is it the bible?
Banzai 05-03-2007, 03:44 PM Nope. Simpler than that ;)
Alice in Wonderland 05-03-2007, 04:25 PM A wise saying? xD
Banzai 05-04-2007, 04:14 AM Nope :P
I can tell you if you want. You're still overcomplicating it.
Alice in Wonderland 05-04-2007, 05:08 AM Please do. D= It's frustrating me no end. >.<
Banzai 05-04-2007, 05:32 AM The answer is nothing :p
Observe:
A headless man had a letter to write;
The letter was O, or 0; AKA nothing.
It was read by a man who’d lost his sight;
A blind man can't read anything, therefore he reads nothing.
The dumb repeated word for word;
Same deal really, he/she repeated nothing.
The deaf was he who listened and heard.
And again. The deaf person heard nothing.
Banzai 05-04-2007, 05:33 AM How about this one then:
A mother's child, a father's child, but no one's son am I. Who am I?
AshNight 05-04-2007, 12:52 PM Is it a girl?
And the riddle about the murder is frustrating...I've never been good at those.
Verto 05-04-2007, 06:11 PM How about this one then:
A mother's child, a father's child, but no one's son am I. Who am I?
Daughter, yes?
(Ashnight got that too)
Keep this going people this is truly an imaginative Thread well done, ill personally check this everyday now lol.
Verto 05-05-2007, 04:33 AM I was thinking about what we don't have on this forum yet and I decided that there wasn't enough to stretch out brain to it's limits (or just make ourselves laugh at how silly we can be.) So I present to you:

A woman has 7 children, half of them are boys.
How can this be possible?
Answer: All the children are male. Half of them are male, and so is the other half! (Solved by Banzai.)
(Just to prove i dont copy people)
RIDDLE 1 Answer: Each line describes the one before i.e.
1
11(one one)
21(two ones)
1211(one two, one one,)
111221(one one, one two, two ones)
312211(three ones, two twos, one one)
13112221(one three, one one, two twos, two ones)
1113213211 (one one, one three, two ones, three twos and finaly one one)
Thats right, isnt it?
Verto 05-05-2007, 04:44 AM That's a tough one...
The officer immediately arrested Mr. Fiend for the murder of Mr. Tidy. How did he know Mr. Fiend was lying?
Is it because the man is Mr tidy so his windows would not have any frost on them? (I know this is a stupid answer this one is really hard)
*edit* i got it, i knew it was somthing to do with the frost.
Alice in Wonderland 05-06-2007, 11:03 AM Sorry about not checking this thread for a while. I've been afk all weekend. xD
Welldone Verto! That is indeed the answer to riddle 1!
http://z.about.com/d/studenttravel/1/0/d/B/one-penny-picture.jpg
And the answer to the detective riddle has something to do with the frost, but mr. tidy doesn't ;D
Crazy Ivan 05-06-2007, 01:11 PM Erm...if the light was on, it would melt the frost? I dunno...
Alice in Wonderland 05-06-2007, 01:48 PM Nope. =D
Crazy Ivan 05-06-2007, 06:13 PM Wait, doesn't frost form on the inside, not the outside?
He can't have seen inside! He had to have done it!
Alice in Wonderland 05-08-2007, 06:11 PM Welldone! That's correct!
Verto 05-16-2007, 09:28 AM Wooohooo, i got my gold penny, right im gunna come from down to london to collect it. lol.
Banzai 05-16-2007, 01:20 PM I think it's about time for some fresh riddles if you people are up for them?
Okay, here we go:
1) Can not be bought, can not be sold, even if it's made of gold.
2)Mountains will crumble and temples will fall, and no man can survive its endless call. What is it?
3)An openended barrel, it is shaped like a hive. It is filled with the flesh, and the flesh is alive!
They are in order of difficulty (I think) so let's see how you all do!
Alice in Wonderland 05-17-2007, 04:30 AM The sun? That's the first one I think.
Banzai 05-17-2007, 04:33 AM Nope, sorry Alice :p
Alice in Wonderland 05-17-2007, 04:39 AM Grr... Darn riddles. :x
Sayso 05-17-2007, 06:13 AM Can not be bought, can not be sold, even if it's made of gold
A heart.
Is no. 2 the call of the wild?
I dont like the sound of no.3.
Banzai 05-17-2007, 10:37 AM Yup, a heart is exactly right.
But I'm afraid number 2 isn't the call of the wild. And number three is a ridiculously hard one which I like to use because it sounds nice, and breaks people's minds :D
Heya, have another riddle for you guys:
One by one we come to life,
Then side-by-side we wait
While our company swells in numbers
(Some come early, some come late);
And some of us may bore you,
And some of us enthral,
But you cannot choose between us
You must take us one and all.
We'll be bound together tightly
For we're naught if we break free.
If you'd like some clues about us
Simply answer: WHO ARE WE?
Banzai 05-17-2007, 01:17 PM That's a tough one.
Is it people?
Nope that's not it. Tehe... yup it is a tough one. A friend told it to me a while ago so I thought i'd share the suffering I went through when trying to work it out.
Banzai 05-17-2007, 01:38 PM That's what riddles are for. Making people suffer when you know the answer and they don't :D
Definately... so anymore guesses? People was actually my first guess too lol when my friend told it me.
Onoria Westhrop 05-17-2007, 02:36 PM This just a pattern of digits rather than a sequence of values.
Just read the previous line aloud to find the next number.
ie.
1
Is one 1. Therefore 1 1.
11
This is not eleven, but two 1's. 21.
21
Oh look, one 2 and one 1.
1211
one 1, one 2 and two ones...
111221
312211
13112221
so...one 1, one 3, two 1, 3 twos and a 1.
111321321
This is the dullest puzzle I've read in my entire life and I have no idea why I bothered answering it. I'll give you a hard one -
If a whale is a capital fish, a tuna is a fish that you have and a cod is a snowy fish, then what kind of fish is a shark?
(Yes, I know whales aren't fish...it's a riddle that no-one on this site will ever get and you won't be able to look it up on the web because I just made it up!)
Alice in Wonderland 05-17-2007, 03:58 PM When you don't know me I amaze.
When you know me I'm dull
Unless you give me to someone else.
I wanted to make it rhyme but I can't be bothered. =D
It's an easy one and one that's been done a million times and one that is answered in this thread.
Damn I'm asking for a lot of hate mail these days. xD
I wanna solve a riddle to redeem myself. =(
Banzai 05-17-2007, 04:03 PM Is it a secret, Alice?
Alice in Wonderland 05-17-2007, 04:06 PM Nope. ^^ That's a good guess though.
Alice in Wonderland 05-17-2007, 04:07 PM Number two of yours, Banzai, is it 'time'?
Banzai 05-17-2007, 04:07 PM Damn. Trickier than it looks :p I'll sleep on it and come back to you tomorrow.
Banzai 05-17-2007, 04:08 PM And yes, number 2 of mine was time. Well done, Alice.
Alice in Wonderland 05-17-2007, 04:10 PM Woo! ^^ Yay!
Have a good think about it! >=) You'll be kicking yourself when you get it. xD
Have a good sleep.
Onoria Westhrop 05-17-2007, 04:30 PM kit - are you pages in a book?
Onoria Westhrop 05-17-2007, 04:36 PM Oh, and I've seen the barrel of flesh one before and I think it's flawed. Unlike nearly every other one of its kind, the inside of the thing in question is not flesh - it's a crystal. Hence you can buy it with the water of crystalization removed...
Sayso 05-18-2007, 02:53 AM I think:
Banzai's no.3 is someone laughing.
Kit's is family.
Onoria's is something to do with places (Wales, Cape Cod) but my head hurts too much to work it out.
Onoria Westhrop 05-18-2007, 03:39 AM Not even close. Nothing to do with Wales.
SeaBreeze 05-18-2007, 04:30 AM And you guys do this for fun?????!!!!!! Arg! My head hurts again! why must it always hurt!!!!
Banzai 05-18-2007, 05:21 AM No, my third one isn't someone laughing, and I'm not too sure what Onoria was trying to say, but it has nothing to do with crystalisation either
Onoria Westhrop 05-18-2007, 06:37 AM It's a coconut, right? Last time I heard the answer, it was "a coconut". Only the flesh of cocunuts, different to other fruits which have flesh, is in fact crystals from the milk. That's why it can be dessicated and used on cakes. I was probably only sulking about this point because I couldn't solve it when I first heard it. I thought it was a mushroom...
Alice in Wonderland 05-18-2007, 06:38 AM And you guys do this for fun?????!!!!!! Arg! My head hurts again! why must it always hurt!!!!
That's why it's fun. Because you realise how dumb you are. xD
Torana 05-18-2007, 07:25 AM When you don't know me I amaze.
When you know me I'm dull
Unless you give me to someone else.
a present/gift
Alice in Wonderland 05-18-2007, 07:28 AM Nope. ^^
SeaBreeze 05-18-2007, 07:49 AM Oooohhh.... is it love????? :D
Alice in Wonderland 05-18-2007, 08:14 AM nope. =D
It's very simple. xD I can't even give a clue that won't give it away.
SeaBreeze 05-18-2007, 08:49 AM A rug? :p
Alice in Wonderland 05-18-2007, 08:54 AM haha not that simple. xD
It's already been mentioned in the thread but isn't in one of the riddles.
Torana 05-18-2007, 10:02 AM is it a joke?
Banzai 05-18-2007, 10:32 AM It's a coconut, right? Last time I heard the answer, it was "a coconut". Only the flesh of cocunuts, different to other fruits which have flesh, is in fact crystals from the milk. That's why it can be dessicated and used on cakes. I was probably only sulking about this point because I couldn't solve it when I first heard it. I thought it was a mushroom...
Sorry Onoria, not a coconut, although that is an interesting answer. No, this riddle is something different, and I think part of it's difficulty is that it is reasonably old (the riddle, that is).
Alice in Wonderland 05-18-2007, 10:58 AM Torana, That's one of the answers, yes. ^^
Torana 05-18-2007, 11:00 AM YAY for me lol ^ ^
Alice in Wonderland 05-18-2007, 11:03 AM The other answer would be 'A riddle'. ;D
Banzai 05-18-2007, 12:15 PM Heh. That's actually quite smart and amusing, Alice.
kit - are you pages in a book?
Nope, a good guess but i'm afraid its wrong.
Kit's is family.
Another wrong i'm afraid.
Onoria Westhrop 05-18-2007, 03:35 PM Is it to do with words or books? I was sure that it was pages...it was the word 'bound' that made me think so. You can't say that for words...mmm...tricksy little hobitsis...
Oh...and to make the fish one a bit easier - a bonito is a hard fish and an octopus is an extinguished fish...
It might have something to do with books...
SeaBreeze 05-18-2007, 08:23 PM Words? hang on, why am I getting into this???
Banzai 05-19-2007, 12:45 AM Because it's addictive.... Mwahahahahahaha!
Alice in Wonderland 05-19-2007, 10:39 AM *Is smart and amusing.* 8)
lol have people given up? :O Lazy!
Banzai 05-29-2007, 03:48 PM Yes. I have won. Bow down and worship me as your god!
Banzai 05-29-2007, 03:56 PM Awww :( Please?
Sorry... but no. I bow to nobody :O
Banzai 05-29-2007, 04:12 PM Hmmm. Well, perhaps the rest of them will...
Cogito 05-29-2007, 04:53 PM (Repeating Kit's riddle, because I had to drill back to find it:)
One by one we come to life,
Then side-by-side we wait
While our company swells in numbers
(Some come early, some come late);
And some of us may bore you,
And some of us enthral,
But you cannot choose between us
You must take us one and all.
We'll be bound together tightly
For we're naught if we break free.
If you'd like some clues about us
Simply answer: WHO ARE WE?
Onoria already guessed pages, but I still think it is something in that vein. Could it be characters in a story?
