hmm, thank you. However, wikipedia is telling me that it started out as an empire for christianity, in which the rulers were atheistic and ruled as "chrstian caesars."

Thanks for the info, I'll see what wiki's deal is, unless it only started out christian, and now the seljuk turks are islamic now, which they are. Yes, that may be it.

It all depends on when you mean. For the first thousand years it's a bit hazy, but after that it's almost exclusively Muslim. Including, of course, the time of the Crusades.
