adamant 06-28-2007, 01:31 PM I believe giving reputation points is little-known (judging on the fact that it took me a bit to learn of it), but it is kinda cool. However, I would just like to say that people should say who gave these e-props. I don't know why, but it just annoys me not knowing.
OCD is fine with me. OCD is fine with me. OCD is fine with me. Tranquilizer is fine with me. Zzzzzzzz.
Banzai 06-28-2007, 01:35 PM Erm...indeed?

Max Vantage 06-28-2007, 02:41 PM Is that what those green squares are underneath the handle?
What are they for anyway and what do you get for having a high one (no punnic penis jokes please :D )?
Banzai 06-28-2007, 02:48 PM Yes, that's what the green squares are. And the reputation just gives you an inflated ego :D
Cogito 06-28-2007, 03:03 PM The person can identify himself/herself in the comment if desired, or can remain anonymous.
Max Vantage 06-28-2007, 03:12 PM The person can identify himself/herself in the comment if desired, or can remain anonymous.
Ah! In that case, then Maximilian Vantage's deviantly diabolically brilliant mind is going to have some major funnage with this! :D
Who can I take down with infinite abandon I wonder?!!!!! Tee-hee. :D
adamant 06-28-2007, 03:15 PM I know that they can, but I'm not sure if people knew that it doesn't actually say the name. There is no real reason why they should hide while giving you rep... I don't believe anyone else can see the comments anyway.
Or can they?

All shall be revealed. But it's not compulsory to leave a message and it's also anonymous unless you decide to state who you are in a comment.
Cogito 06-28-2007, 05:19 PM There is no real reason why they should hide while giving you rep...
I suppose that's probably true, and might discourage any attempt at hit-and-run sniping, i.e. giving disapproval rep points in a sneaky manner.
I'm pretty sure Daniel could look to see who has submitted rep points if there were an issue, and probably any Super Moderators could also.
adamant 06-28-2007, 05:35 PM Max, I meant that no one else can see the rep that you've been given. I know you can see your own.
Daniel 06-28-2007, 06:54 PM Everyone can see everyone's rep, but you can't see comments left to other users.
We don't show who leaves rep to avoid fights based on negative rep.
Banzai 06-29-2007, 05:55 AM Negative rep?
Daniel 06-29-2007, 08:01 AM Yup. You have the choice of selecting "I approve" or "I disapprove."
Raven 06-29-2007, 09:12 AM I'm pretty sure Daniel could look to see who has submitted rep points if there were an issue, and probably any Super Moderators could also.
Yes it can be done. But we don't because again as Daniel says it can cause bad feeling if you've been given negative rep. Because then everyone will start giving those who gave negative rep will give the one who gave it a negative rep and thus it becomes out of hand.
Banzai 06-29-2007, 09:57 AM Ah, I didn't realise you could give negative. You learn something new every day :p
Heather Louise 06-29-2007, 10:01 AM i hate the fact it doen't alwys say who said it. i have one rep added because of some completely random post and there was no comment :| lol
Daniel 06-29-2007, 10:47 AM I just checked and I'm surprised at how much rep isn't used. I'm like one of the few who use it frequently. Heh. :P
Torana 06-29-2007, 10:49 AM Actually I use it a bit. Have given out a bit of rep points now lol :D:D
Heather Louise 06-29-2007, 12:09 PM yea, i try and use it everynow and then if i think something is really good. i have given out a couple. btw, what is the "Referalls" thingy for??
Banzai 06-29-2007, 12:25 PM When people register on the sight, they can enter the username of the person who directed them to the sight. Referrals is simply the number of people whom you have referred to the sight.
Heather Louise 06-29-2007, 01:01 PM owwww, okiee dokiee
adamant 06-29-2007, 04:06 PM site banzai, SITE!
Torana 07-06-2007, 06:39 AM Ok so what if you have queries about the appropriateness of a reputation mark against or for you?
Daniel 07-06-2007, 08:55 AM Ok so what if you have queries about the appropriateness of a reputation mark against or for you?
Then you'll have to live without knowing.
:p
Heather Louise 07-06-2007, 09:24 AM owww, that's mean :( btw, how many adds do you have to get before you get another green square thingy??
Daniel 07-06-2007, 09:32 AM Hehe.
You have to get "100 points." It depends on how much power each person has to give rep. The more rep you have, the more power you have to give. Make sense?
Heather Louise 07-06-2007, 09:37 AM ermm, yea, i think so, lol. i didn't know that you could change the amount of points you added, lol. thanks,
Heather
Night Haunter 07-06-2007, 10:51 AM So whos the members with the most Rep then?
Daniel 07-06-2007, 10:59 AM ermm, yea, i think so, lol. i didn't know that you could change the amount of points you added, lol. thanks,
Heather
Yup. There are a few factors, including your own rep, how long you've been a member, etc.
Daniel 07-06-2007, 11:02 AM So whos the members with the most Rep then?
Currently it's Cogito, followed by Hulls. You can view the rep stats here (http://www.writingforums.org/statistics.php?forum=0&stats=users&show=10).
Just because they have the most rep doesn't mean they necessarily give the most rep power.
Banzai 07-06-2007, 04:37 PM site banzai, SITE!
Ahem. No one noticed that.

Banzai 07-07-2007, 01:46 AM Doesn't the ammount of Rep points you can give depend on your post count? I'm sure I read that somewhere...
Princes 07-08-2007, 08:08 AM Why do we need reputation?
Banzai 07-08-2007, 08:09 AM Because it's fun :D
And everyone likes little green blocks.
Banzai 07-09-2007, 03:43 PM I understand that the green blocks on the CP rep screen mean plus rep, and the red ones are minus rep, but what do the grey ones mean?
Crazy Ivan 07-09-2007, 03:48 PM Too-lazy-to-give-a-crap rep? =O
Banzai 07-09-2007, 03:54 PM Lol. Perhaps. My first thought was that it was a neutral thing (i.e. not plus or minus). But that seems stupid, since there is absolutely no point to it.
Daniel 07-09-2007, 10:44 PM Heh.
If the reputation is gray that's because the user who gave it didn't have enough "rep power" to actually affect your reputation.
If this is the case that's usually because they're a new user.
What color is it when it's a bad reputation then? I thought that's what the grey was.
Banzai 07-10-2007, 12:57 AM Bad rep is red.
SeaBreeze 07-13-2007, 04:49 AM At least they have rep. I'm not in the top onehundred. But then again I havn't go tmy glasses on! NObody likes me!!!!! :D
Banzai 07-13-2007, 04:56 AM Awww, course we like you!
Torana 07-13-2007, 05:12 AM awwww DOZ ya know we loves ya darlen! mwa
Daniel 07-13-2007, 09:54 PM What color is it when it's a bad reputation then? I thought that's what the grey was.
As someone mentioned, red rep is negative.
Crazy Ivan 08-02-2007, 08:17 PM I have to say I'm a little concerned about people abusing the reputation system.
For example, from the "Crime/Vigilante" topic, I just received this little bundle of joy:
08-02-2007 08:59 PM Trouble causer
08-02-2007 08:59 PM Idiot trouble causer
08-02-2007 08:59 PM Pathetic
This was all obviously done by the same person- I'm not sure who, seeing as they weren't brave enough to leave a name. (Although Reaper would be the logical suspect.) But aren't these snippets of unbridled hate kind of...unneccessary? If you're going to rant at me for something that's not really rant-y to begin with (I said that the topic might become a home for flaming and that people shouldn't kill other people, which apparently made people angry), do you really have to say the same basic thing three times over for one thing- in flame form, no less?
What with vendettas and poor decisions that members might be making, the reputation system is beginning to worry me. Has anyone else come across grudge-jobs like this?
adamant 08-02-2007, 08:33 PM I know what can make it all better... *slips behind the internet*
Charisma 08-02-2007, 08:34 PM I have no right to agree or disagree with something I cannot view myself, but some people really need to grow up. Everyone has their opinion, and they should learn to tolerate it, if not respect. People often go over the limits and act very silly. You may view the associated thread with this recent commenting and justify whether these reports were correct. I am not defending Crazy Ivan, I'm merely trying to convey the excruciation of this situation and to enforce the validity of his statement.
adamant 08-02-2007, 08:36 PM Uh... *apparently doesn't know the system well enough and comes back into view*... 1/3 of "all better now"... so yeah. :)
No way in hell he did all three of those in the same minute.
Charisma 08-02-2007, 08:37 PM No way in hell he did all three of those in the same minute.
I dunno. Auto-posters, maybe?
wordwizard 08-02-2007, 09:54 PM WoW so if I was to give somebody a reputuation point(s) then how do I do that?
adamant 08-02-2007, 10:02 PM See that little balance between the green light and the triangular sign with rounded edges... it's under your gender sign, avatar, and contacts. Click that thing, and cast your judgment.

Well, I checked and it is actually three different people. The same person can't give the same person rep again without giving it to a certain number of people first.
I think it's obvious that whoever left the rep co-ordinated it because of the date. Don't let it bother you though.
adamant 08-02-2007, 10:37 PM I knew it had to be impossible for one person. Though I bet Comrade Ivan already knows the three people who might have done it. LP, I don't believe you have much to worry about in the way of flaming though -- he was one of the people going against vigilantism. :)
Banzai 08-03-2007, 12:48 AM How many people do you have to give rep to before you can give it to someone again, Lpspider
The Reaper 08-03-2007, 04:50 AM Although Reaper would be the logical suspect.)
I'll thank you to leave my name out please. I most certainly have not done that to you Ivan. And you cannot just accuse members of doing things simply because they disagreed with you. Out of order
adamant 08-03-2007, 04:57 AM You know, this all goes back to the very reason I posted this thread long ago:
[...] I would just like to say that people should say who gave these e-props. I don't know why, but it just annoys me not knowing.
Banzai 08-03-2007, 05:01 AM I agree. With most of mine I can figure out who gave me them (I still have one negative rep which I can't figure out who gave it to me though...). And I always put my name on rep I give out- but I haven't actually given out any negative rep yet.
Panther 08-03-2007, 05:04 AM Crazy Ivan I gave you a bad rep for your post in my crime // vigilante thread. I gave you that because i disapproved and we have the choice of approved or disapproved. I make no hiding that fact. It was done because your comment was all wrong and immature of not understanding the full upset and grief my friends and family are suffering from that.
I will not take it back. And if i risk never receiving good rep again so be it. But I will gladly say I gave you a bout and did not confer with anyone
Banzai 08-03-2007, 05:12 AM I think people are putting too much importance in the rep thing. It's supposed to be a bit of fun, and personally, I just use it to reward the people who take the time to read and critique my writing.
Night Haunter 08-03-2007, 05:14 AM Well i see no wrong in bad rep if its done fairly and Panther in his defence has owned up to it. he certainly can't give it again for sometime now. Just make sure you all remember if your to issue bad rep it be done fairly and for a post that warrants bad rep otherwise its done out of spite
Banzai 08-03-2007, 05:17 AM If you are going to give bad rep, you should be sure of giving an explanation, and identifying yourself, I think.
Night Haunter 08-03-2007, 05:21 AM yes that is the least you can do. Bad rep can upset members and at least if a name is given then they can make an understanding of the bad rep.
Crazy Ivan 08-03-2007, 06:03 AM Alright, looking back on this, I realize my post was insanely whiny. I apologize for getting disgruntled over nothing. Reputation doesn't really matter to me; I should know better.
However, Banzai has picked out the one grain of fact from my annoying complainathon: If people left notes on who gave reputations, it would probably cut down on paranoia/general disgruntlement.
Princes 08-03-2007, 08:22 AM I am certainly not bothered by reputation its best to just post in threads this Rep thingy is worthless anyway.
