The site will go down for about one hour this Thursday around 3 PM CST. It's at this point we'll be making the software upgrade.

I would personally be surprised if it only takes an hour. There are always complications. So please be patient if it does indeed take longer.

Thanks for the heads up! :) Will it be an all day thing, or just a few hours?
Daniel

Cogito's right. One hour is if everything goes smoothly. I'd say 3 hours is a good window - it shouldn't be all day. I'll be doing a final test upgrade tonight (on a site that's not live) to make sure everything works out.

So the down time will take place in an hour in EST?

I'm working on a final test run right now. The problem is the database file is huge, and takes a lot of time to backup and process. I'm still working on it but the final upgrade might get pushed back a day or two.

I was on another forum that was down for a few days and it wasn't a huge deal. Seriously guys it's for a few hours. With all due respect why do you guys care so much?

That's preposterous!
Shenanigans, sayeth I.
Well, I really do hope that the upgrade goes through, just be careful, I read an announcement somewhere that some vB 4x upgrades can cause vulnerabilities.

Sorry for pushing it back. I'm working on the problems I encountered as I type this. If all goes well, the upgrade should happen anytime in the next few hours.
We might have to cope with a few bugs here and there after the upgrade until it gets ironed out. Once we get to that point though, just make sure I know about them.
In the meantime, when the site is down, put the pen to the paper and write something! ;)
Also, if anyone will be online for the next few hours and wouldn't mine helping be bug test for a little, email me at support@writingforums.org. I'm looking for two people who'd be willing to navigate the test upgrade and look for bugs and problems to help prevent the bugs from carrying over to the live version of the site.
What's the latest with the updating Daniel?

We're on the verge, but restyling the theme is harder than I expected.
