View Full Version : Magic Encylopedia
adamant 07-20-2007, 04:26 AM I recently thought of grouping magics, things accomplished by magic, and other things linked to magic. In my eyes, this would aid RPG players and creators, as well as anyone else attempting to create a magic system (or just find one). The list would have cohorts of similar magics, and perhaps a description of them. If anyone is interested in helping, just add to the thread and I'll edit the original post to keep things looking tidy. Nothing is set in stone, so if you believe you have a better way to organize the magics, by all means, speak up!
Damn, I just noticed that the title is missing an extra 'c'. Let that be a lesson to you little kiddies, don't try to spell multi-syllable words when you've stayed up to 4 in the morning.

mammamaia 07-20-2007, 06:16 PM surely there must be such compendiums out there in print... have you looked, to see what they are?
check it out [54 items on amazon alone]:

mammamaia 07-20-2007, 06:19 PM silly me!... i guess you meant to have one posted as a sticky or something here, and not actually be writing another book of them...
if so, it would be helpful to refer to the books already available, don't you think?... since you can't really give much if any info on all of the multitude of magick-minutiae in a thread...
adamant 07-20-2007, 06:35 PM I'm not trying to get every little thing, just enough so that people could experience other things they may not have seen other wise. Something concise. A bit of a reference.
Though I only did a meager search, there wasn't much that seemed to be what I wanted. And then I got a virus. So I stopped looking.
Hmm I can see the point in this, especially from the point of view of the RPG section... but then wouldn't this post be better off there?
I didn't mean that to sound rude by the way, its just that because it was in plot creation it seemed as though you were asking help to write a book on it.
adamant 07-21-2007, 05:25 PM Well, it actually would help for my book (and may inspire some for others). Though as I was making the post, I realized the potential it could have in a RPG setting. However, it doesn't seem anyone is interested in doing anything with it. So yeah.
Ferret 07-21-2007, 08:11 PM The mental arts: Mind reading, controlling, modification; telekinesis; pyrokensis.
adamant 07-21-2007, 08:55 PM Thanks for the input Ferret. Simply due to that, I've went on a little streak with the list. Do you think that the format seems okay? As I'm going to be busy reading for a while, I'll take a little hiatus. When that's done, I'll be adding more items to the categories and also writing a little about them.
Please, add to the Encyclopedia! Writing information on topics is good writing practice. :)
adamant 07-24-2007, 05:50 AM Not that anyone appears interested, but I've added a lot to both the 'Items and Concepts' and 'Creatures, Spirits, and Beings' sections. They link to Wikipedia articles, but I'll eventually put up a small description of most/all.
Also, I'm starting to add Science Fiction sections.
