View Full Version : Scaredness!
jmitchell1986 07-26-2007, 06:48 PM Yes, I know its not a real word, before anyone starts. I am babbing myself, a man was just in my garden shining a torch into my window, and then he ran when he saw me, but I am al alone in my huge house, and i keep hearing noises, and I am VERY scared. I did a check of the house, and i know how to take care of myself, but I am terrified nonetheless. So, tell me your fears, make me feel less silly for being this scared!
Joe xxx
Crazy Ivan 07-26-2007, 06:56 PM My basement. I'm never scared of the dark except when I run into my basement and the lights aren't on (Usually when I'm going to get ice cream from the freezer at night). It freaks the heck out of me and I run back up as soon as possible, crashing up the stairs and bursting back into the light, where my parents stare at me because I'mlike I'm nuts. O.o
DivineLemon 07-26-2007, 06:58 PM My fear is that one day I may be haunted by ghosts or spirits. When I sleep at night I have to have my blanket tucked in all around me. When I am finally settled I am in something like a cocoon. I feel safe that way.
jmitchell1986 07-26-2007, 06:59 PM Hehe, I never liked basements either, but now I live in one!!!
Crazy Ivan 07-26-2007, 07:01 PM EDIT: Holy crap, I had this up for like five seconds and then deemed it way too personal. Sorry, don't know what I was thinking.
jmitchell1986 07-26-2007, 07:03 PM Well people finding that sorta thing out ain't nice, it's always best to tell them, for them to hear from you, not some online persona :)
DivineLemon 07-26-2007, 07:05 PM Nothing here. Move along people.
Cogito 07-26-2007, 07:16 PM Ivan,
I think most of us probably already knew what you said, especially after a certain other thread last month. I can't speak for anyone else, but for me it makes absolutely no difference.
Judging by the events which followed in that instance, I don't think I'm alone in that though.
But I hear your fear, and commend you for expressing it, however briefly.
Crazy Ivan 07-26-2007, 07:18 PM To me it does. I'm a 13-year-old, I'm allowed to be irrational. >.> This is how the world works, no? =P
But anyway, I'll stop hijacking jmitchell's thread. Continue on with what frightens the bejeezus out of you.
DivineLemon 07-26-2007, 07:21 PM Ivan,
I think most of us probably already knew what you said (DivineLemon, it would probably be appreciated if you delete the quote though), especially after a certain other thread last month. I can't speak for anyone else, but for me it makes absolutely no difference.
Alright. Sorry. I am confused about what you are talking about though.
DivineLemon 07-26-2007, 07:22 PM Vegetables have always haunted me. Their green tint and healthy insides. Corn and carrots are alright. But otherwise vegetables worry me.
Cogito 07-26-2007, 07:25 PM Alright. Sorry. I am confused about what you are talking about though.
That's ok, most of that message was meant for Ivan, in terms he would understand. I avoided revealing anything to any casual reader as to what I was referring to.
Crazy Ivan 07-26-2007, 07:25 PM Agreed, Lemon, although I do have a fondness for snap peas and green beans...but not real peas. Disgusting. Eurgh. >=P
DivineLemon 07-26-2007, 07:27 PM I can proudly say that I have never eaten a single pea in my lifetime.
Cogito 07-26-2007, 07:28 PM What scares the hell out of me is becoming helpless and dependent on other people for day to day survival.
Cogito 07-26-2007, 07:31 PM Real peas are ok if not overcooked. Either that or cooked to a puree with curry spices and paneer (a fresh cheese from India, almost like tofu or fresh mozzarella). It's absolutely delicious that way, and very un-pealike.
dushechka 07-26-2007, 07:31 PM Vomit.
Seriously. I have this intense fear of it. Thankfully I've been vomit free for ten years. W00t.
Other than that.. I guess on a more personal note I'm afraid to meet someone on a real and deep personal level.

Holy cow! I have had the same phobia since I was young. I would not call it a fear on my part as much as a total avoidance.
Cheers for us!
dushechka 07-26-2007, 07:36 PM Holy cow! I have had the same phobia since I was young. I would not call it a fear on my part as much as a total avoidance.

Lol. Yay. *shudders at the thought* Complete avoidance.. Even to family.
DivineLemon 07-26-2007, 07:39 PM Lol. Yay. *shudders at the thought* Complete avoidance.. Even to family.
I know the feeling. It is horrible but I have a dog who has some horrible medical problems which causes IT to happen more than I would like. Not to mention the cat who has multiple hair balls a week.
I am working on getting rid of the fear. I am so tired of shying away from those who are ill.
Heather Louise 07-27-2007, 06:22 AM ok, one of my fears is that on a school morning i get up really early to go in the shower, so no-one else is awake at the time. i go in the shower then go downstairs to dry my hair in the kitchen (so no-one is awoken by the hair-dryer.) when it is winter everything outside is dark, and i am on my own in the kitchen and then the motion detecters on the kitchen ceiling begin to flash, even though i am not moving. i hate it soooooooooo much. also, when i try to turn on the light for the living room in the morning, the light switch is half way in the room, so i have to leg it across the room to flick the switch incase there is something scary in the dark. to put it simply, i am afraid of the dark :(
MedicMan 07-27-2007, 07:25 AM I hate heights with an absolute PASSION :p If I've got lo look over a ledge or something, I have to make sure I'm holding on to something or I'm petrified I'm gonna fall off :s
Heather Louise 07-27-2007, 07:26 AM yea, my mate hates heights so much so will not even cross the brige over the river as if it does fall, she cannot swim :p
MedicMan 07-27-2007, 07:28 AM ^-^ Hehe poor her. I'm not that bad, though it did kinda spoil my trip on the London Eye ;)
Torana 07-27-2007, 07:37 AM I am a 23 year old mother of two have been since November last year and I am afraid of living on my own. I hate being in a house on my own I freak myself over the tinyiest little sounds at night.
I am not afraid of walking through the streets at night alone, just being in a house alone. Weird but yeah. So I moved back home and me and kids are living with my parents till I can gain the courage to live on my own.
I am also petrified of my ex, the father of my kids, drunks late at night, SPIDERS I am petrified of so badly that if I see one I use a full tin of fly spray in the room and don't go back in there for 24 hours at all.
Well yeah they are my fears lol
Cogito 07-27-2007, 07:43 AM I hate heights with an absolute PASSION :p If I've got lo look over a ledge or something, I have to make sure I'm holding on to something or I'm petrified I'm gonna fall off :s
I have a big problem with heights also. But for me, that means I have to attack that fear, so I take amusement park rides that involve heights, I climb cliffside trails, and generally take opportunities to kick that fear in the nuggets.
So it still scares the bejeezus out of me, but I'm getting a little better at it.
Torana 07-27-2007, 07:54 AM I have a fear of sleeping on a top bunk of bunk beds :P but I love heights to be honest! Never be afraid of heights.
Cogito 07-27-2007, 08:00 AM The funny thing is, I have no fear whatsoever in airplanes, as long as it's a closed cabin. I have flown on large passenger planes, smaller passenger shuttles, and in single and twin engine private planes, and even turbulence doesn't bother me. I think I'd probably be ok in an open cockpit, as long as I am enclosed to nearly shoulder height, and right side up; someday perhaps I'll get to test that.
Charisma 07-27-2007, 08:49 AM I really, really am afraid of heights and sliding surfaces. It's really difficult for me to pass a bridge. But I don't have any problems with airplanes, camels, lifts or anything like that. I also have a fear of sliding surfaces. It is a result of a bad childhod experience  arr.
Crazy Ivan 07-27-2007, 09:35 AM Bees freak the piss out of me. Whenever I see one, I freeze up and don't move until it's gone. >.> It's cuz once when I was little, I was running with some friends and stepped over a nest of bees. I got stung by five of 'em at once, and one of them was right behind my right ear, and it started to swell, so my ear got pushed forward until I couldn't hear and I looked (more than usual) like a moron.
Also, those spiders with the legs that are way too long. I hate them.
MedicMan 07-27-2007, 11:50 AM Also, those spiders with the legs that are way too long. I hate them.
You mean a Daddy Long Legs? They are kinda creepy I guess... bit pathetic too though, they're so fragile!
Crazy Ivan 07-27-2007, 12:09 PM No, those are easily squishable. I'm talking about the really big ones.
adamant 07-27-2007, 12:30 PM Tarantulas? Goliath spiders?
Crazy Ivan 07-27-2007, 01:28 PM I don't know...just giant spiders.
Would you just let me be stupid in peace! >.<
wordwizard 07-27-2007, 04:33 PM wolf spiders? those ones freak me right out. I had one fall on my lap before from the roof, then my dog chomped it. Also this one time I was carrying a load of dirty laundry downstairs and one climbed off the laundry and started climbing up my arm. So sick.
uhg.
Only spiders that scare me are the ones big enough to bite me :p We had an infestation of Brown Recluses in our house last year. I think their bite is deadly, or at least caused some damage. None of us got bitten though, we never bothered them so they didn't bother us... i guess x)
wordwizard 07-27-2007, 06:18 PM eeeep scarey. I think I would crap my pants if I came across a poisonous spider.
Cogito 07-27-2007, 06:36 PM I'm not overly fond of them either. The landlord has seen a couple Brown Recluses in dark corners of the basement and a storage shed - they don't like light.
I used to be much worse about spiders. One benefit from my marriage, my ex was insanely afraid of spiders. By that, I mean she would wake in the middle of the night hallucinating dinnerplate-size spiders on the wall over the bed. I was then rudely awakened by elbows or knees pounding into my back and head.
So guess who was in charge of doing away with the real spiders...
Have I ever mentioned how bizarre my ex's behavior was at times? That's a single example.
WhispWillow 07-27-2007, 07:03 PM Speaking of Hallucinations, I am pretty sure I had a hallucination or flashback from my dreams to a show on the tv. My tv was on some soap and while I was dozing off, I started dreaming, when I woke up though, I remember having this nightmare/ hallucination while still remembering bits of the soap ( I was pretty out of it though, I hadn't a clue what was going on)
Anyway, the scary hallucination/nightmare, was something on the same subject of hell. I don't know what it was definityely, but whatever it was, it was very negative and a horrible experience. I know something was going on in the back of my mind though but I can't put my finger on it, or what it was.. I think the hallucination was mildly due to tiredness, I need sleep badly lol. I think the nightmare had something also closely to do with numbers, but whatever it was, it was negative and uh, just horrible. I dream like this very rarely, but when I do it's just horrible and is a feeling unlike any other.
You'd be suprised what lack of sleep would do to you.
"As indicated by its name, this spider is not aggressive and usually bites only when pressed against human skin, such as when tangled up within clothes, bath towels, or in bedding" Apparently, that's why we weren't bitten. It probably came from us moving old boxes into the living room and sorting through them. It says they like cardboard boxes. Scary.
So, beware old cardboard boxes O.o
SeaBreeze 07-28-2007, 02:18 AM I hate spiders too. But the other day I squished a red-back spider, one of many poiseness spiders in Australia. But Whitetails are really bad, the venom eats the skin. Blech.
I also used to be afraid of death but now I fear waking up to find that the world has been exposed to something, turning people into zombies. So I try not to watch horror movies anymore as well.
Oh and I read something in an British magazine, that there is this girl with an intense irrarional fear of baked beans!
Oh and I read something in an British magazine, that there is this girl with an intense irrarional fear of baked beans!
Rofl, poor girl! She's missing out on a wonderous thing.
Torana 07-28-2007, 08:46 PM no she isn't they are disgusting!!!!
Cogito 07-28-2007, 10:48 PM Nah, nothing wrong with baked beans. It's the people who are EATING the baked beans you need to avoid!
adamant 07-29-2007, 12:09 AM Seconded.
I think I'm mildly afraid of most insects/spiders, but it seems to fall within reason in my mind. My thoughts are that if I don't mess with them, they don't mess with me. Moreover, seeing as how I don't know what can/will kill me, I think it's best that I keep my distance.
Also, I don't like having to talk to new people (in person)... though this can be dispelled quite easily for something I want or need to do.
The Freshmaker 07-29-2007, 01:02 AM I have a deep-seated fear of being car jacked. I just don't know what I would do in that situation. If I'm stopped at a red light or something, and someone is walking near my car, I automatically lock my doors. It's silly, yes, I know.
I'm not afraid of ghosts or anything. One of my friends lives in a house that's apparently really haunted, and I sleep over there all the time.
adamant 07-29-2007, 01:04 AM Speaking of locking doors, I've always wanted to go to a really wealthy neighborhood and lock my doors whenever someone got near me (esp. if they're in a nice car).
Torana 07-29-2007, 01:24 AM Freshmaker I always drive with my doors locked for the same fear really. I know it is silly and me being paranoid but I can't help it....especially when I am in the city or in a town where I don't know anyone...
Cogito 07-29-2007, 11:08 AM My car doors lock automatically when the car starts moving.
Torana 07-29-2007, 12:42 PM I need a car like that then!
Edward 07-29-2007, 01:29 PM I have no problem with most bugs, I mean, I don't wanna touch them because I know anything smaller than me can bite me and I might retaliate, and therefor kill it (I had a bad experience with a gerbil. I didn't kill it, but it took a chunk out of my thumb.) and of course, because spiders big enough to be held are poisonous and covered in very painful little needle-like hairs. I mean, I catch fireflies every summer and like looking at butterflies and moths.
With that said, my biggest fear is the creepy disease spreading bug known as blottodae (looking that up on wikipedia to get the spelling right and seeing the picture makes me rub myself down). Yes folks, that's right, big man's afraid of cockroaches. Those ****ers scare the piss out of me. And for a long time my cat kept them away (I assume it was the cat), but then they came back for about two months, and I was literally afraid to go into the kitchen at night.
I think it's all coprophages, flies for instance, hate cookouts because of them, but mostly roaches. Before they mysteriously (and thankfully) disappeared from my kitchen, I went on a crusade of killing: see roach, grab paper towel, kill roach, squeeze towel to make sure the job is done, drop in trash can. I was once laying on the couch one night and saw a little silvery glint waddling on the edge of the couch in the light from the screen, when I noticed what it was I jumped up like someone shocked me and killed it as quick as possible. I then proceeded to douse the area of the couch with rubbing alcohol. I'm that crazy. I mean, I've eaten a meal worm covered in cheese powder, I've caught fireflies, I once rescued a huge (thumb sized huge) cricket-thing (it may have been one of those ugly beetles from my garage) from being washed down the bathroom sink, I've pulled slugs off of the back porch (that, my friends, is a difficult task). Roaches scare me, I have no reason other than they spread filth and look ugly, but that's enough for me.
I'm claustrophobic due to a bad experience as a child, and the same experience left me afraid of the dark but i've pretty much overcome that one now.
I don't really have any other fears other than being hurt emotionally, i'm pretty scared of that but I wouldn't call it an insane phobia or anything. I'm also a little scared of heights and needles but I wouldn't count those anymore because i'll tolerate them.
Banzai 07-29-2007, 01:46 PM I'm scared of dying a meaningless death. Sounds sad, but it's true. I'm also scared of the ignorance of the masses.
I'm scared of dying a meaningless death. Sounds sad, but it's true. I'm also scared of the ignorance of the masses.
Why does everybody else seem to have deep and meaningful thoughts except for me?
MedicMan 08-05-2007, 06:41 AM Hehe my thoughts couldn't precisely be described as 'deep and meaningful' - what's deep and meaningful about being scared of heights? Lol :p
~MedicMan~
Raven 08-05-2007, 06:43 AM In my Job nothing lol
SeaBreeze 08-05-2007, 06:56 AM I fear man made hights... mostly more than natural ones!
adamant 08-05-2007, 06:58 AM I want to fly a F-22 Raptor. Nuff said.
SeaBreeze 08-05-2007, 07:00 AM Run for cover! I went through a stage of wanting to be a fighter pilot in the RAAF. Then I found out that girls don't really get in and that you had to be , like, a genius at maths and such. Which I am not. So there goes that idea
MedicMan 08-05-2007, 07:25 AM Hehe oh dear. Well if I get into med school I'm hoping to become an RAF doctor... I must be insane xD
adamant 08-05-2007, 07:35 AM I never said anything about being in an air force, I just want to fly really fast. :p A genius at math? Wuh? Don't see why they don't let women in the military, even the terrorists who feel they are unequal welcome them. In any case, I'm not being drafted!
JetBlack 08-05-2007, 07:37 AM I fear living a life void of passion.
MedicMan 08-05-2007, 07:41 AM Lol do they not let women in the Aussie forces then? In Britain they can join most parts of the military, barring the Submarine Service, Royal Artillery, and the Paras. In the RAF, the only think women can't join is the RAF Regiment.
adamant 08-05-2007, 07:46 AM So they can't fly, but can run around shooting people? Dunno why they can't do the other stuff too -- everything is tech based anyways, just commander whatever it is. Also, the anti-gay rule is at least 3 times as stupid.
MedicMan 08-05-2007, 07:59 AM There's an anti-gay rule? Wow, we don't have that... And women can be RAF pilots, the Regiment is the ground-based bit (AA, airbase guards and all that)
adamant 08-05-2007, 08:05 AM Oh, I thought you meant just the people in combat (which, in that case, would be pilots). But yeah, we have this "Don't Ask, Don't Tell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don%27t_ask%2C_don%27t_tell)" rule with gays in the military. If they are found out, they are ejected from the military (supposedly for their own safety... though they can't buy the armor to protect them from bullets -- go figure). Apparently we've lost a lot of Arabic translators due to the legislation.
SeaBreeze 08-05-2007, 08:44 AM I can't remember the person that told me.. and this is going back about.... ten or so years, so maybe that's what I thought. But I'm pretty sure you have to have excellent grades in Maths in particular but not sure. I think I heard or read somehting about science being involved too.
But flying really fast.... hmm.... I don't know about that.
And being gay should have nothing to do with how well you do your job.
adamant 08-05-2007, 08:48 AM Nor should sex, but apparently it does in America. The melting pot is cracked.
SeaBreeze 08-05-2007, 08:52 AM Ah well... two hundred, sixtynine days and thirty three hours till the world ends. Maybe then we get to go to a place where things don't suck.
I just find this world so infuriating. So much hate and anger, death and crime. I think I fear this world most and the fact that I may be bringing a child into this place.
adamant 08-05-2007, 09:03 AM Ah well... two hundred, sixtynine days and thirty three hours till the world ends.
Wouldn't that be 270 days and 9 hours? :) Unless we're referring to other planets in relation to Earth.
SeaBreeze 08-05-2007, 09:05 AM Mner.... don't make my head hurt... as I said, I never was a math genius!
adamant 08-05-2007, 09:07 AM Can/do you keep a gun in your house? Had any local problems with hooligans and whatnot?
SeaBreeze 08-05-2007, 09:27 AM Australia has strict gun laws in place mainly ever since the Tasmainian murder spree by marten bryant that killed about thirty odd people.
I wouldn't mind learnign how to fire a gun, look after it etc as it would be useful research for my books but other than that, I would prefer not to have one... knowing me it would probably go off and shoot me instead of the intruder!
adamant 08-05-2007, 09:30 AM Now how would you manage that exactly? "Freeze, put the TV down or I'll shoot myself!"
Sadly, DOZ never understood why her TV's always seemed to vanish. I know I put it here yesterday. :(
SeaBreeze 08-05-2007, 09:37 AM You meanie! :p Nah, besides, I tend to have mood swings so not having a gun in turn protects my family from myself!
Cogito 08-05-2007, 09:42 AM I want to fly a F-22 Raptor. Nuff said.
To me, though, that is very different from standing on the edge of a 200 m, sheer cliff, with nothing between you and a lethal drop. I am completely at ease in every aircraft I have ever flown in, but froze up completely on a scaffold three floors up while on a painting crew.
adamant 08-05-2007, 09:46 AM The only time I believe that I don't like heights is when I'm capable of dying and there's little support (maybe a poor structure). Though I try to stay clam in most situations as I believe panicking is practically useless.
Cogito 08-05-2007, 09:46 AM Australia has strict gun laws in place mainly ever since the Tasmainian murder spree by marten bryant that killed about thirty odd people.
Did they ever figure out why he only targeted odd people?
SeaBreeze 08-05-2007, 09:48 AM haha, very funny. No, I meant thirty odd, as in thirty people, give or take. The bastard just went around this history place with a gun and started shooting. He hanged himself a couple of years ago... I htink I might have to go google it so I can get correct info.
adamant 08-05-2007, 09:51 AM Eh... this is why I should be president
SeaBreeze 08-05-2007, 10:07 AM Yes. That nifty and spiffy looking tie does lok very presidential! Hah! we have a prime minister that powerwalks everymorning
Crazy Ivan 08-05-2007, 10:08 AM Yes! Forget Obama, Adamant for first black president! Just make sure to have the forum as your running cabinet.
adamant 08-05-2007, 10:13 AM Hulls Raven as Secretary of State / Homeland Security
Comrade Ivan as Secretary of Defense
Cogito as Attorney General
DOZ as Secretary of Health and Human Services
Banzai as Secretary of Energy
Cogito 08-05-2007, 10:13 AM My godz, you're right! <rubbing my eyes> he is black!
;)
When he turns 35, he'll have my vote.
SeaBreeze 08-05-2007, 10:16 AM Me? as health minsiter? mwahahahahahha whatch out schools. there's a maccas heading straight for your canteen... ahem.. maybe I should start looking a little healthier and maybe join PM John Howard on his walks.
SeaBreeze 08-05-2007, 10:17 AM And does this mean I gets a free trip to AMERICA! Wicked! I'd vote for you in return for my greencard! and as long as I can come back to Australia whenever I can of course.
adamant 08-05-2007, 10:21 AM Hmm.. what about a job as an ambassador with Kangaroo Country? and you can even be paid in Kangaroo dollars! :)
Panther 08-05-2007, 10:24 AM JetBlack better be scared.
Scared of ME.
SeaBreeze 08-05-2007, 10:25 AM Mr. Chuckles aren't ya???? Kangaroo dollars? Hmmm.... as long as I get free food and stuff, I don't care.
adamant 08-05-2007, 10:36 AM Well, that interjection was quite odd.
Does anyone else wish that the president wasn't Commander-in-Chief? I mean, he didn't serve in the armed forces to begin with. How does he know what should happen? I think it should be a little more dispersed amongst a group. We can't expect a George Washington every time we throw out a ballot.
[/rant]
SeaBreeze 08-05-2007, 10:38 AM Hey, but the thing is. I wouldn't want the job of leader of a country, really when I think about it because they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.
adamant 08-05-2007, 10:43 AM That's why I'm making you an ambassador and secretary, silly.
Crazy Ivan 08-05-2007, 10:44 AM In a note that ties the topic to the thread, I'm going to be honest and say that, although my grasp on politics is probably not as high as that of a Washington DC employee, I don't think it's too stupid for me to be scared of the incumbent government and administration. Really, the thought of them running everything just puts me on edge.
SeaBreeze 08-05-2007, 10:49 AM What, and me on Health minister duty doesn't?
JetBlack 08-06-2007, 02:18 AM JetBlack better be scared.
Scared of ME.
In the words of a great woman:
Love me or hate me, it's still an obsession.
Love me or hate me, that is the question.
If you love me then thank you!
If you hate me then **** you!
Lady Sovereign, i salute thee.
SeaBreeze 08-06-2007, 06:18 AM *chuckles* I like that one. I may use that one day, mr chuckles!
