View Full Version : The Internet Face
Charisma 08-02-2007, 10:29 AM Whenever I meet someone on the internet I sketch their face in my mind even if I see their picture simultaneously or later on. It helps me think good about them, and deal with them nicely.
I just thought - do others have an image of me in their minds? Do others want to know what I think of them as a face? Do people have people drafting faces for them? I believe this shouldn't hurt someone or offend someone, if we remain in our limits.
So, I'd love to know what you think I'll look like, and though many members have put up their picture here, you should try to give a picture of what you expected them to look like. I can do the same for you if you like - but you should try to state the good points and not the bad ones (where good shouldn't mean someone being white or black. Just - general features. But I guess it's okay if you state the complexion.)
I'm sorry if I'm violating any rules. I think it's OKAY. Thanks in advance. I'm okay with a little bashing.
Raven 08-02-2007, 10:30 AM Can't say I ever thought about it. Simple answer is just upload your photo solves that problem.
Charisma 08-02-2007, 10:32 AM Can't say I ever thought about it. Simple answer is just upload your photo solves that problem.
That - I can't. :)
JetBlack 08-02-2007, 10:38 AM I imagine you as an extraordinary intelligent Plant that can use a computer. You would have a very bendy stalk and 4, wait...3 love heart shaped petals. You also would have a couple of shiny things orbiting around you, possibly tiny scientists in crafts observing you.
Charisma 08-02-2007, 10:40 AM I imagine you as an extraordinary intelligent Plant that can use a computer. You would have a very bendy stalk and 4, wait...3 love heart shaped petals. You also would have a couple of shiny things orbiting around you, possibly tiny scientists in crafts observing you.
That was SO ironic :)
Heather Louise 08-02-2007, 03:43 PM go on then, how'd you picture me? and you, well i thought you'd have blonde hair that was long, and bright blue eyes maybe. you are quite girly looking in my mind. am i close?
adamant 08-02-2007, 03:44 PM As she is in Pakistan... I find that somewhat unlikely, though not impossible.
Heather Louise 08-02-2007, 03:46 PM owww, lol, well i never noticed that. :p
(Is sneaking on even though she shouldn't be on, so will poof anytime soon.)
I do the same thing Anthrax.
Though when I imagine someone, it's nothing I can really explain. I see people as I see their personality, I suppose.
Like heather, before I saw a picture of her I imagined her to have very red cheeks because she is such a sweetie.
Cogito I imagined to wear glasses because he was so smart :p
So yeah. Rofl.
Cogito 08-02-2007, 04:55 PM Ok, I just squirted soda out through my nose (ouch) - thanks for the compliment though, Bick.
I would be functionally blind without my contacts, to be honest.
Crazy Ivan 08-02-2007, 05:02 PM I go by the highly ridiculousunderstandable approach of thinking of everybody by their avatar, not by their real-life (Or even human) shape. So for the longest time the name "Cogito" made me think of someone shiny and bald. O.o
There was a period shortly after I joined the forum where I thought MamaMaia's avatar was of a blue moose (don't ask), so that's how I see her now- kind of like Babe the big blue ox, but. Y'know. A moose.
Heather- I guess it was something about her personality, but I always thought of her as a giant smily face...with rainbows....DX
I thought of Adamant as that guy from Gorillaz...Night Haunter always seemed like he'd be a big freaky gothic bat to me...I used to imagine Hulls Raven as looking like Tom Hanks (No idea why)...I imagined Bick as a big comic-book guy drawn in black-and-white like the eye in his avatar....I see Dropbear as looking like a koala...the list goes on....
adamant 08-02-2007, 05:08 PM Which one from Gorillaz?
Stuart Pot / 2D (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/43/2D_Gorillaz_DemonDays.PNG)
Murdoc Niccals (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/1a/Murdoc-largeside3.jpg)
Russel Hobbs (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2d/Russel.jpg)
Yes, there is another, but Noodle is a girl. My guess would be 2D though.
Crazy Ivan 08-02-2007, 05:09 PM 2D. He was your avatar, right?
adamant 08-02-2007, 05:13 PM Actually, it was a picture of the main characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender in their album cover. Though it was small... and it would have been like all of them being on their otherwise.
Cogito 08-02-2007, 05:15 PM Pssst - Bick is a she...
ROFL, okay. I'm sorry that made me laugh realllly hard :p
I'm a chick though my name sounds guyish.
adamant 08-02-2007, 06:51 PM Wait... that's your actual name?
Rofl. No, just my nickname :p
My real name's Angela. I just like Bick better.
adamant 08-02-2007, 07:06 PM Hmm... I don't really see why 'Bick' is better.
I like it :p It's simple and easy to say.
Though I kind of just lied. Angela isn't my real name, it's just what I've been called since I was born. My real name is Angelique, but no one can say it right T.T
adamant 08-02-2007, 07:12 PM An-gel-eek... that's really the only way it can be pronounced.
Cogito 08-02-2007, 07:13 PM Ahn-jheh-LEE-kay?
It's said like;; On-juh-lee
Cogito 08-02-2007, 07:19 PM Gotcha :)
Charisma 08-02-2007, 07:27 PM go on then, how'd you picture me? and you, well i thought you'd have blonde hair that was long, and bright blue eyes maybe. you are quite girly looking in my mind. am i close?
Not even an inch! I, for the most, pictured you as a sweet little senior citizen, until I saw your profile. I expected you to be very, very beautiful (which you are, no offense) and maybe many freckles to make you look cute.
As she is in Pakistan... I find that somewhat unlikely, though not impossible.
*Cough* *Cough* Don't pop the dream bubble :D Yeah, this smart guy's correct.
I do the same thing Anthrax.
Though when I imagine someone, it's nothing I can really explain. I see people as I see their personality, I suppose.
Like heather, before I saw a picture of her I imagined her to have very red cheeks because she is such a sweetie.
Cogito I imagined to wear glasses because he was so smart
So yeah. Rofl.
Hmm...cool. I first thought briefly that Cogito was a girl...but I had to correct that picture of his :) Otherwise...well...(Hey Cogito! How're you doin', girl?)
Charisma 08-02-2007, 07:31 PM I go by the highly ridiculousunderstandable approach of thinking of everybody by their avatar, not by their real-life (Or even human) shape. So for the longest time the name "Cogito" made me think of someone shiny and bald. O.o
That happens. But by Cogito's avatar, I thought of a tall and broad Japanese guy :p Okay, I'm after Cogito for a while now...he might as well be on his way to my house to beat the french fries out of me.
Which one from Gorillaz?
Stuart Pot / 2D
Murdoc Niccals
Russel Hobbs
Yes, there is another, but Noodle is a girl. My guess would be 2D though.
You're the last one. Definitely :p
adamant 08-02-2007, 07:33 PM You mean Russel? Why do you say that?
Cogito 08-02-2007, 07:35 PM So I would be Cogito-san, the Sumo wrestler?
A good thing I'm not using the floating brain avatar any more :D
Charisma 08-02-2007, 07:56 PM You mean Russel? Why do you say that?
I dunno. I think you're pretty...rough and tough.
So I would be Cogito-san, the Sumo wrestler?
A good thing I'm not using the floating brain avatar any more
Heh...I should've mentioned slim too. So that way, you might be the royal Attendee :p But a somu wrestler works. I can relate!
adamant 08-02-2007, 08:13 PM I dunno. I think you're pretty...rough and tough.
Haha... that's funny. Don't know what gave you that impression though. Then again, I can't say it's entirely false either.
Charisma 08-02-2007, 08:15 PM I caught you, didn't I? I guess the impression is because your posts are highly strong and strict, please don't mind. They create an impression of seriousness...which is kind of fun and freaky.
adamant 08-02-2007, 08:23 PM Strong and strict? My choice of words? or the ideas behind them?
Though I'm not really all that big: 5'6'' and approximately 120 pounds. I'm not sure what that translates into using kg's and meters though.
Charisma 08-02-2007, 08:24 PM Strong and strict? My choice of words? or the ideas behind them?
Ideas....I guess :)
Though I'm not really all that big: 5'6'' and approximately 120 pounds. I'm not sure what that translates into using kg's and meters though.
Comparing to an average man around here, you're pretty small :p People here are tall and huge for no good reason.
Cogito 08-02-2007, 08:46 PM Though I'm not really all that big: 5'6'' and approximately 120 pounds. I'm not sure what that translates into using kg's and meters though.
55 kg and about 170cm.
adamant 08-02-2007, 08:47 PM Man, America never should have switched over. Does it feel to be in this conversation and the other, more serious one?
Charisma 08-02-2007, 08:54 PM 55 kg and about 170cm.
Yeah...that's small for me.
Man, America never should have switched over. Does it feel to be in this conversation and the other, more serious one?
I don't know. You just scare me  Don't mind. People who talk to me sometimes think I'm like that too. It depends, I guess.
adamant 08-02-2007, 08:56 PM Wait, what?
Cogito 08-02-2007, 08:56 PM Man, America never should have switched over.
Huh?
America has never really adopted the metric system. it has stayed primarily with English measure.
I just happen to know the conversions pretty well from having worked as a scientist, but I can also visualize quantities in both systems apart from actual conversions.
Charisma 08-02-2007, 08:57 PM Wait, what?
 Truth is always...weird.
Charisma 08-02-2007, 08:58 PM I just happen to know the conversions pretty well from having worked as a scientist, but I can also visualize quantities in both systems apart from actual conversions.
Being girl, weight conversions are inevitable  Pfft...the figure conscious society. I'm trapped with them.
adamant 08-02-2007, 09:01 PM Oh, I must have been thinking about the whole Celsius thing. We did have that once, right? I just don't see the whole reason of being so different from the rest of the world. Most of the other stuff is SI.
And anthraxx, I was confused at your meaning. I was talking about metric systems in what you quoted... so I'm guessing you were talking about me being strong/strict? But it still doesn't make much sense to me. :p
Cogito 08-02-2007, 09:02 PM The US has always used the Fahrenheit scale for temperature in everyday matters.
We're the oddballs in not going metric, primarily because the costs of retooling all American industries was considered prohibitive.
Even the English abandoned English measure :)
Charisma 08-02-2007, 09:03 PM And anthraxx, I was confused at your meaning. I was talking about metric systems in what you quoted... so I'm guessing you were talking about me being strong/strict? But it still doesn't make much sense to me.
You said conversations so I got a little confused. Heh, never mind me. Yeah, conversions...serious?! Now that doesn't make sense to me!
Charisma 08-02-2007, 09:03 PM The US has always used the Fahrenheit scale for temperature in everyday matters.
The Fahrenheit scale is sooo difficult. I wish I would been taught about it before 6th grade
adamant 08-02-2007, 09:04 PM Okay... then why are we so different? (It really does seem as though I've heard we used the other ones at one point or another.)
Can't we just use the SI stuff?
Charisma 08-02-2007, 09:05 PM Can't we just use the SI stuff?
We (any community) sets trends, doesn't follow them. The new shoe store says that :d.
adamant 08-02-2007, 09:05 PM Oh... anthraxx, I was talking about being in that murder thread and this, light-hearted one, at the same time and how it felt a little weird.
Is everything clear now?
Cogito 08-02-2007, 09:07 PM Being girl, weight conversions are inevitable Pfft...the figure conscious society. I'm trapped with them.
Yeah, I guess some things truly are universal :)
Charisma 08-02-2007, 09:08 PM Yeah, much clearer adamant. It feels funny. But I'm really sad that people can be tolerant. No offense, but now they're fighting over a member...that is so wrong.
Charisma 08-02-2007, 09:09 PM Yeah, I guess some things truly are universal
It proves that there ain't anythin' called 'civilized'. It's just a modern way of oppression. But some societies have dominated this with a true meaning of freedom. Kudos to them!
adamant 08-02-2007, 09:15 PM Does Cog seem kinda big for a scientist? Haha
Charisma 08-02-2007, 09:16 PM Does Cog seem kinda big for a scientist? Haha
Lol no...he got himself mutated :D
Cogito 08-02-2007, 09:22 PM I crouched way down to fit under the "You must be this height or less to take this ride" bar at the lab entrance :)
Charisma 08-02-2007, 09:23 PM I crouched way down to fit under the "You must be this height or less to take this ride" bar at the lab entrance
I am RICH! *Calls UFO reporting service* What's your address? ;)
adamant 08-02-2007, 09:24 PM Hmm... Lab Cloak of Invisibility?
Cogito 08-02-2007, 09:25 PM Careful! I have a flask of Thionyl Chloride, and I'm not afraid to use it! ;)
Charisma 08-02-2007, 09:26 PM Hmm... Lab Cloak of Invisibility?
Heh...that was funny. I don't know WHY.
Charisma 08-02-2007, 09:26 PM Careful! I have a flask of Thionyl Chloride, and I'm not afraid to use it!
Thin what? Is that a new brand of chocolate?
adamant 08-02-2007, 09:29 PM Would you like some TEA with that? and by TEA, I mean
Triethanolamine
Ah, behold the power of Wikipedia.
Charisma 08-02-2007, 09:30 PM Would you like some TEA with that? and by TEA, I mean
Triethanolamine
Ah, behold the power of Wikipedia.
Mommy! *Hugs teddy* I can't understand anything ;) Is it sweet, or bitter? Can Mr. Wiki tell me?
Cogito 08-02-2007, 09:31 PM Nah - it's a pretty nasty reagent/solvent I worked with for a couple years. It reacts with water (including moisture in the air, or in lungs) producing hydrochloric acid and sulfur dioxide.
The stuff has a strong burning, choking odor, and is not the nicest stuff to expose your system to.
I was a research electrochemist, and the thionyl chloride was used as part of the electrolyte in one of the kinds of lithium batteries we were researching.
adamant 08-02-2007, 09:32 PM In other words... no crumpets, TEA, or even chocolate. :(

Translation in my brain: Blah blah yadi yadi yada blah blah blah yadi yadi yada blah blah blah yadi yadi yada blah blah blah yadi yadi yada blah yadi yadi yada blah blah
:D
In other words... no crumpets, TEA, or even chocolate
I WANT CHOCOLATE! *wails*
Cogito 08-02-2007, 09:36 PM Chocolate and crumpets will do for me, thanks!
adamant 08-02-2007, 09:38 PM But you've forgotten your TEA!
Cogito 08-02-2007, 09:40 PM Nope, I don't mind tea, but TEA (or other amines for that matter) is another matter.
Charisma 08-02-2007, 09:40 PM Chocolate and crumpets will do for me, thanks!
*Grabs collar* Thou shall offer me savouring chocolates for the freedom of shunned secrets...
But you've forgotten your TEA!
*Hands TEA to sister* You'll feel like a new being.
adamant 08-02-2007, 09:41 PM It's only a schedule 3 in the chemical weapons convention... surely it can't be all that bad
EDIT: anthraxx... you sister wouldn't feel much of anything after a bit
EDIT2: POST 600! Woo!
Charisma 08-02-2007, 09:44 PM EDIT: anthraxx... you sister wouldn't feel much of anything after a bit
Exactly what I want.
Cogito 08-02-2007, 09:48 PM TEA has wider uses than in chemical weapons. Still, in the current political climate, I feel an urge to look over my shoulder anytim eI mention nearly any useful or reactive chemical. The government seems to think anyone who searches on or mentions certain chemicals is either making bombs, poisons, or drugs.
When I was growing up, you could buy a chemistry set in any toy store. I had several.
adamant 08-02-2007, 09:50 PM I can imagine you shopping for that My Little Terrorist chemistry set now.
Cogito 08-02-2007, 09:53 PM Indeed. And in addition to what came stocked in the basic chemistry sets, I was able to mail order many many more chemicals by mail with no one raising an eyebrow.
I learned a great deal about chemistry long before I could take it in high school.
Charisma 08-02-2007, 09:53 PM EDIT2: POST 600! Woo!
That...makes it 601.

According to a census in Pakistan, about 85% of the adult population here has weapons - illegally. The problem is - the remaining the 15% are trapped because of this.

It's always the good ol' days...
adamant 08-02-2007, 09:56 PM One hell of a drastic change, eh? Now we've got to take off our shoes at the airport and carry everything in little Ziploc bags. At least we don't have refrigerator factories making tanks.
Charisma 08-02-2007, 09:58 PM One hell of a drastic change, eh? Now we've got to take off our shoes at the airport and carry everything in little Ziploc bags. At least we don't have refrigerator factories making tanks.
Unless the shoe part was metaphorical, oh my. At least we're safe here. I hope the refrigetors remain safe - we just got a new one.
Cogito 08-02-2007, 09:59 PM People in fear will create weapons. Governments will do what they can to prevent it, but it's a fool's errand. As MacGyver (American TV series) showed, with ingenuity and a bit of knowledge, nearly anything can be the raw material for a weapon. MacGyver's improvizations weren't always workable, but quite a few of them would have worked.

Just as terrible it is - this is true.
adamant 08-02-2007, 10:06 PM War on Weapons. (Oxymoron says what?)
War on Drugs. (Green light. *You'll get that, just wait for it*)
War on Terrorism. (Yes, let's fight fear itself?)
I'd like to see Bush in pajamas or something with a teddy bear fighting off the boogieman.
Charisma 08-02-2007, 10:12 PM I'd like to see Bush in pajamas or something with a teddy bear fighting off the boogieman.
LOL...Even you don't like him? You're an American...
adamant 08-02-2007, 10:15 PM Not all Americans think the same. Cogito is an Usan from what I understand, and we will never really see eye-to-eye on the same level.
Cogito 08-02-2007, 10:18 PM You mean because of the 10" (25 cm) height difference?
adamant 08-02-2007, 10:19 PM YES! Dude, you have no idea how happy I am that you got that. Haha.
Cogito 08-02-2007, 10:21 PM :D Well, you gave me an opening I could drive a semi through, sideways!
adamant 08-02-2007, 10:23 PM Haha... I went back and edited it just to make sure. It was just 'eye-to-eye' at first.
Cogito 08-02-2007, 10:26 PM Oh ye of little faith. You KNOW how I go after puns!
adamant 08-02-2007, 10:28 PM Yes, you and your punishment are of infamous status on this forum. You know, I was really hoping I could come up with at least one during that. Well... a better one anyway.
Cogito 08-02-2007, 10:32 PM With your command of words, I expect some good puns from you.
adamant 08-02-2007, 10:34 PM I may command words, but I'm simply unable to rein them in for usage! Ah!!
adamant 08-02-2007, 10:49 PM See what I mean? What's your fascination with punning anyway?
wordwizard 08-02-2007, 11:12 PM so....what did you all picture me looking like before you saw my photo?
and what is so great about punning? hallooooo! punning is insanely amusing.
adamant 08-02-2007, 11:19 PM amusing, yes, yes... but I can never think of any, and it becomes a headache -- though, is it because you like puzzles or something? that's what I was trying to figure out
wordwizard 08-02-2007, 11:24 PM no no they are just good for a giggle, a twist with words....I think it shows a quick humorous brain to think up puns.
adamant 08-02-2007, 11:30 PM Well then... let's see you make one. :)
Heather Louise 08-03-2007, 03:16 AM Not even an inch! I, for the most, pictured you as a sweet little senior citizen, until I saw your profile. I expected you to be very, very beautiful (which you are, no offense) and maybe many freckles to make you look cute owww, you're such a sweety, but you are right about the freckles, i have a load in the summer. XD
Heather- I guess it was something about her personality, but I always thought of her as a giant smily face...with rainbows....DX hahahaaa, lets keep it like that then, from now on a i am giant rainbow smiley.
i always thought of Crazy Ivan being older than he is, same with Banzai, i thought of him being an old man. :p and i thought Cogito would have glasses and longer hair and a beard thing, he looks like Sean Connery out of The Leauge of Extradionary Gentlemen in my mind. :p Torana i thought would be older too, and she would have short hair that she kept in a neat little bun. Mamamaia i always thought of being really old with long grey hair that she let flow loose and kind blue eyes. i don't know how close i am to the bucket with that one. :p Adamant is young, with longish brown hair that he leaves over his face, and he wears big sunglasses all the time. and Hulls Ravens i thought would ahve dark hair and be older. he has wrinkles in my mind, and likes to wear cardigans. :p thats the only ones i can think of for now
Charisma 08-03-2007, 04:08 AM so....what did you all picture me looking like before you saw my photo?
and what is so great about punning? hallooooo! punning is insanely amusing.
Punishment is so the thang. I love it xD
I pictured you with a attitude face and long, long red hair and green beautiful eyes. But seeing your avatar, I could compensate and say it also works.
Charisma 08-03-2007, 04:19 AM Hmmm...Crazy Ivan always seemed to be a fresh-looking, jolly young gentleman who had the sharpest features and funkiest dress codes. Torana seemed to be young to me at first, that is not a mother, with pretty much the same features she has in reality but only more immature with perhaps brown hair instead of blonde. Mamamaia also reminded me of my Urdu teacher, with a alive heart but a solemn face. I personally thought Hulls Raven was a naughty woman around 28 with silky black hair and deep interrogating black eyes. I thought she'd (yeah, in consideration to my first impression) would be very outgoing and full of verve. I think adamant is older than 17, perhaps with a family and very serious outlook towards life. He might as well have brown hair and fawn eyes, along with a spiffy and high-paying job. :P Who else? Ah, Bick. I always believed she'd have blonde hair and cute little blue eyes, with a little soberity on her face.
EDIT: Ah, Bill and Banzai. Banzai, I thought would be around 30 - 40, a little old face and soft sheeks. Bill seemed to be an old man to me too, with brown hair and light brown eyes.
