Agreed, though I normally call the color fuchsia ... though, looking at the loose definitions of both, it could be either.

I'd say fuschia was more this colour but the forums call that colour magenta...

Fuchsia: a vivid reddish purple

So yeah, there reason those are even two different colors is minimal.

fuchsia
Fuchsia and magenta are nearly the same colour.
Fuchsia is far closer to pink, being merely a tonally darker fluorescent pink.
Magenta is two tones darker than Fushsia.
So technically both are pinks.
What you have acquired is what is light purple, or if you were wanting to mix it, add equal amounts of cool blue and cool red, add 1:40 parts white and 1:25 parts gum turpentine.
If the forum calls the colour Magenta, it is by far, wrong.

In a more limited scope, I guess I could agree, though there has been some corruptions of both:
