Welcome to the site. Now Samuel, this isn't that bad an introduction. But it surely creates a psychological impression that '...I got to check it out...' so yeah, this is the first step to writing: capturing attention. Okay, I'll stop being a philosopher now :p So yes, welcome, and enjoy your stay here.

I have no idea how that red thumb was included in my message, but I kind of like it. I might use that on a regular basis. I will be known as: Samuel Birch, he of the red thumb.

Hello Samuel, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners.

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room on this site, therefore, is a true workshop, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work. See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? (http://www.writingforums.org/showpost.php?p=65432&postcount=1) for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

Samuel,

My welcome message uses a template, but is nonetheless heartfelt. I found myself saying much the same thing to welcome new joiners, so I put together my own greeting that covers the basics. Still, I try to add a personal touch, depending on how much I learn about the joiner from the introductory posting.

If it's any comfort, it's a template that is wholly of my own devise.

I have never played the tuba, but I have a tenor saxophone that I am way out of practice with.

Anyway, welcome to the site!
