Erin, you PMd me asking for feedback, but you don't accept PM replies. My comments follow:

I'm afraid I'm no longer active here, so you may wish to involve someone with more of an active interest to invest their time in your book.

I read part of page 1, down to the first break, then a couple of random paragraphs from later in the book.

It needs a good proof read to correct some of the more trivial issues, and more than a little revision to tighten up the prose some.

In my opinion the writing shows a general lack of maturity (of the writing, not necessarily the author). You can tweak the writing all you like, but ultimately it's probably not going to have much commercial appeal because it doesn't come up to the standard of commercial writing.

Does it suck? No. I wouldn't buy it and I wouldn't read it beyond the first few paragraphs if it was given away free, but I've seen far worse writing, so I wouldn't say this sucks. I noticed enough to convince me that the writing isn't of a good enough quality, and didn't interest me enough to want to read on.

Of course, you should appreciate that one single opinion (be it mine or someone else's) means diddley-squat. If it helps, I think The Hobbit sucks.

My advice, if you're serious about writing a novel, would be to seek out a professional reviewer and get some quality feedback on your writing. It will cost you, but it will probably do more for you than any amount of time spent in writing forums such as these. Seek out someone reliable if you can.

Anyhow, good luck with your writing.

Cheers,
Rob

I wouldn't worry about it Robert, because Erin Pavlina has been banned for unknown (but I am sure for proper) reasons.

I also got a pm from her, but decided to ignore it since I realized she was banned.
Lpspider says the pm's should have been deleted along with the banning, but I suppose there was a glitch somewhere.

cheers :)

Thank goodness. I saw the PM once, then went back to look again and it wasn't there. At first I thought I was going insane, but my imaginary friend assured I'm not.

She'll have been banned either for spamming or harassment by PM. It fits into either of those categories. It's a shame really that some people don't understand how the forums work.

Okay, thanks.

Basically, she was banned for mass PMing upon joining. She made no attempt to actually be a "real" member here, she was just trying to get publicity for her own work/site.

When I contacted her about this, I got no reply and she continued. Thus the ban.

Fair enough. Besides, if you want reviews, you go about it the normal way, like everyone else. I didn't think it was a particularly hard concept to grasp.

Thanks for clearing this up and taking appropiate action, I was a little baffled also by the phantom PM.

I got it as well. I went to read it and was totally lost in the story.
I like feel good or educational reading like psychology. and this one
sure missed the mark of asking me about it.
totally depressing and not well done.
thanks for making sure we don't get another like that.

Funny, I didn't get one of those PMs.
I guess now I won't :)
