Hello Ron, Welcome to the Writing Forums.

That is a very impressive capsule biography. You even left the Lord of Hats speechless, which is even more impressive!

If you haven't explored the site yet, you should probably do so soon. Newcomers often gravitate to the Lounge, the Word Games, or the Review Room, but there is much more to be discovered if you poke in the corners. Remember to check out our FAQ (http://www.writingforums.org/faq.php) as well!

As for the Review Room, new joiners often wonder why we do things a bit differently on this site than on other writing sites. We emphasize reviewing as a critical writing skill. Training your eye by reviewing other people's work helps you improve your own writing even before you present it for others to see. Therefore, we ask members to review other people's writing before posting work of their own. The Review Room forums on this site, therefore, are true workshops, not just a bulletin board for displaying your work (and on that note, please only post each item for review in one Review Room forum). See this post, Why Write Reviews Before Posting My Work? (http://www.writingforums.org/showpost.php?p=65432&postcount=1) for more information.

Enjoy your stay here, and have fun!

In these early years of the evening of my life I hope to drop in occasionally and even unto old age(80++) if I last that long. It has been, goodness, seven or eight weeks since I was here last. Life is busy even in retirement. I must have some lunch now--and then there is dusting, laundry, dishes, vaccuuming, stuff on the domestic front. But you all shall see me occasionally, "palely loitering," as Keats once put it before his early grave.

Hey RP! Got a humorous observation I thought up yesterday, for ya...

So about 13 years ago, I was sitting in a college algebra class, but I didn't figure out then what I was about to tell you, but since then I have.

There's something those who dictate education to us are hoping we'll never catch on to. They realized some time ago that there are only so many ways numbers can be manipulated, and only so many numbers. They know that at some point someone somewhere will solve the most important equations because of that, and hold a powererful intelligence so great that they could become science itself; hence, be more intellectually powerful than those who claim to teach us. They don't want that! So how do those shady teachers keep us down? They invented "imaginary numbers." Yep! We're that stupid! They figured if they could sidetrack us with numbers that don't even exist, that they could buy some time.

So I was thinking. If imaginary numbers -- numbers that don't even exist -- are taught to math students as a real form of mathematics, why can't imaginary friends be taught to psychology students as real and a legitimate diagnosis to help lonely people through depression or psychosis or any other psychological impairment? Why is it when an adult talks to imaginary friends they are seen as loony? Irrational?

Irrational relationships, irrational numbers.

Welcome to the forum!
