Dilemma

  1. Hum...

This is just collecting dust so I should probably use it :)

I don't actually have anything of interest to write about.

    I'll post about my dilemma-

Will be leaving school in less than a year, so trying to decide what to do. I've always wanted to work with animals, but becoming a cop really appeals to me, too, so I think I'm going to aim to do an animal course after I leave school and apply to become a cop when I turn 18 and a half. My only issue is that I would like to work as a cop but am also aiming to become a zookeeper in the future. If I were to work full-time as a cop, I could volunteer at the zoo on the days I have off, but I would like to become an employed zookeeper at some stage. The other problem is that I would like to recruit with NSW police which ruins my plans of moving to QLD. Not a huge issue, but it means I'll be living away from my boyfriend longer than planned (he lives in QLD). The other issue is that I really wanted to go to uni, but I can't see how I'm going to fit it in now. There's so much I want to do and so little time.

    Aah, decisions, decisions.

Seriously, I almost exploded when I read this blog. We have exact ambitions. I've always wanted to do work involving animals, except it's been the more unusual side. For example, I have a lizard instead of a dog, and would want to work as a herpetologist before anything else. I'd also love to film nature documentaries. Can you imagine spending 6 months in the Serengetti?

The point is, being a zookeeper would be amazing, but jobs in a zoo are at a premium, especially here in Adelaide. When I left high school my ambition in the year book was: 'To open a zoo in Canada'. Just you wait, one day I will achieve this. I'm also obsessed with Canada.

And if that wasn't enough I've considered being a cop as well! It would be an interesting job, but the pay here in SA is laughable compared to interstate and I'd really only want to be a detective. But still, I enjoyed reading this blog. Good connections! :)

Haha, I'm a reptile fan, too, however, I don't have any. Five dogs, two cats and one bird right now. I would suck at filming docos, but I think animal journalism would be awesome. Incredibly hard, though, you'd see a lot of awful things. Working in the Serengetti would be incredible, it would be an amazing experience.

I actually did work experience at Taronga Zoo last year and it was excellent. I've always loved animals and always wanted to be a zookeeper, I know it's something I'd love doing. Getting into one of the biggest zoos is very difficult, though, you generally have to have volunteered for several years before they consider employing you. If I got enough volunteer work under my belt, it's possible I could do part time zookeeping and part time policing. That would be incredible.

I think for now, becoming a cop is a more realistic ambition, but doing an animal course and volunteering will get me on the right track to working in a zoo. I'm looking at doing Cert II in Animal Studies and then Cert III in Captive Animals at TAFE.

The NSW police force seems to be the best in regards to pay, that's why I'd prefer recruit to them rather than QLD. I'd personally want to work in dog handling, which is also quite hard to get into, but investigations also seems appealing.

Thanks for your comment :D Hopefully we'll both be able to figure out what to do :p
