I'm In Love...

  1. ...With my MC.

Now that I've got your attention,

Does anyone else begin to get too attached to their MC? I mean, even to the point where (for example) in one of my earlier plans for my book, my MC was tortured for information at one point, but when I re-thought it I got rid of this plot point completely, because I didn't want Isaac to go through with it!

If you also have this problem, please, tell me about it, and if you've overcome the problem,
    TELL ME HOW!

Oh, and I'm still single. Just in case anyone wanted to know.
    (JOKING!)

    ;)

I've been in love with a Greek MC for the past two-years, and I'm still as bad as when I'd started...lol...no-one in real life measures up..;), so I doubt that's called overcoming the problem.

    Same issue here.

My MC, Lillian, originally was supposed to have a repeat traumatic event with one of her good friends. But when I thought of the damage that would do to her, I worked around it to keep her safe.

It happens to the best of us. We think of them as our children and will do anything to protect them. On the one RPG board I'm on, my MC, Kelly Jasper Haven, has been through hell over and over. Now I spare her because I feel upset when I think of what's going to happen to her and how it'll hurt her.

Eventually you'll overcome the problem, because sometimes you just need to be hard with them to get the point across and the story told. Don't keep editing things just because it'll hurt your MC because people will think they've got some serious luck on their side, and soon it will become predictable.

My Mcs are always a bunch of lunatic jokers, they never take anything seriously. Always lazy and when its time for action they flee which usually means that i haven't actually managed to get to know the character that well because he's hiding! I hate all my MCs:D
