Introduction

By Chinspinner · Feb 3, 2015 · ·
  1. I have just read the customisation instructions for blogs so thought I would play about with it.

If I am going to write a blog, I may as well write it on the subject of my current WIP; this is a writing site after all. I doubt it will be updated regularly.

I have called the blog The Scattered Pearls, which is the working title of my novel. It comes from "The Scattered Pearls of the Broken Necklace" which is a translation of the Arabic name for the constellation Cetus.

Progress is slow at the moment having just moved to New Zealand and currently still finding my feet, but I will update it as and when.

Where from prior to New Zealand?

    London previously.

Wow. That's a treck, aye. :) How hard is it to immigrate from the U.K.? I always assume the other daughter countries of Mamma Britain have easier ties with the apron strings than we cheeky yanks. ;)

No such luck. NZ and Aus had a load of retired miners moving out their in the 70's and then eating up their health resources with various lung diseases. They then tightened the rules. I had to have blood tests, x-rays, police checks and so on. Although by all accounts its still easier than the US. A British Passport isn't the same currency it used to be, alas.

Understood. Have you grown accustomed to the different constellations? When I moved to Puerto Rico, it was the first time in my life that I lived somewhere where there was so little "town light" that I could genuinely see the Milky Way, the actual hazy swath cutting across the sky. It's been 8 years and the telescope I bought when I moved here is till in active use. I even get the neighbors to come up to the rooftop and have a gander. It stuns me every time. :)

This is near the top of my list, but I'm in the middle of Auckland at the moment and haven't had a chance to get out into the country. Living in London I have only ever seen the sky as we are supposed to see it on occasions when travelling. In fact you have given me an idea of something to do this weekend.

Although it has been a few years since I have been anywhere in NZ outside of Auckland, I do remember Pahia being a lovely little spot north of Auckland.

Cool, I'll have to check it out.
