Rivetheads and misconceptions (a whiners session)

  1. This has been annoying me for ages, what do you guys think a Gothic is. I’m curious to hear your thoughts…

    Myself as a Gothic

In general I share the views of other gothic people. Like most Gothics I’m artistic and enjoy literature. Music means a lot to me, I’m constantly listening to it. I can’t sing or play an instrument but I will write lyrics.

What type of Goth am I?

There are a lot of different groups of gothic people now days. Which differs from the stereotype that once existed.

First of all this is most amusing…

I myself am probably classed as a Lolita Gothic/ I could also at times be mistaken for a rivet head (I don‘t however follow the matrix fashion trend that is happening right now). I enjoy the Edwardian garb and wear it often. I guess other gothic peoples would possible call me a J-Goth also due to the fact I love the Japanese style (however I really wouldn‘t call cosplay an Gothic trend).

Other types of Gothics I think are awesome

Caberets I love the forty’s and fifty’s style. It’s beautiful and suits some people so very well.

I also must say fetish is wicked if you can pull it off, I can’t ><

    What I hate

I’m sorry, I really don’t consider emo’s to be gothic, nothing is worse then poor me syndrome. Quite frankly I couldn’t give a rats *** about attention seekers. Sure the Emos can do some pretty decent prose I just can’t like an idiot who threatens to waste him/herself every five seconds just for a little love…

Also some baby bats annoy me because what they think is gothic isn’t exactly what a lot of gothic people stand for. The ones that I find annoying are the trend setter beginners who think they are cool for it…

Anyway that’s enough of that for now. I’ve probably done more the enough whining for one day.

lol It's not whiny, I didn't know there was that many goth styles o_O

I agree on the emo part though...but I like their hair styles :p

Personally I have friends that are Goths, friends that are Preppies, and a bunch that fit into a variety of categories. I honestly just see them as friends and nothing more.

Yeah emo's do have cool hair I'll admit that :-D

That's great Rumpy, it's a lifestyle choice that reflects on attitude. I can't see any reason why some one should be treated differently on religion, so it should be the same for gothic people
  4. Torana
Scary thing is Gloom, if you look right into it...you will find many, many more different types of Goths, like the ones you posted a link to in your blog.
  5. Gloom Kitty
I already know there are a lot of types. Some weren't even listed on the sites I linked 0_o how strange perhaps its because certain countries only have certain types
  6. Rumpole40k
OK when I posted my original comment I was focusing on your original question. Now that I took the time to slowly read through the lists, I can stop laughing as I remember far too many ex-girlfriends!
  7. Torana
that is quite possible Gloom. I don't know though.

And LOL Sharky, that is hilarious!

I classify myself as a 'street Goth' taking little ideas from everywhere in the subculture. Some days I'll go fully Edwardian/Lolita, with my top hat and black, lacy coat, other days I'll throw on a more rivethead-orientated style, and on some days I'll go emo, with a checkered hoodie and skinny jeans. ;)

:-D it's hard to know which you are when their is some great stuff for us out there and music there is another thing

Gee...I need to go have a talk with my youngest son (15)...he is into the whole Goth thing....and honestly, I am mom enough to say...I don't have a clue.
He keeps telling me Goth is different today than when my oldest son was his age. I try to be supportive...but...*sigh*...it's too confusing...:(
  11. Gloom Kitty
trust me Chimmy it is. I also want you to know don't be frightened. Goth is an attitude, it's not dangerous and doesn't ask that we all sacrifice lambs and be drawn into witchcraft. Why not look into the links with your son. He might enjoy the fact that you are interested in what his up too :-D The emo trend can be a little more worrying.

    This is funny:D

I took the emo test once and it basically told me I was goth and confused. According to that second link you provided, I'm Nerdy Goth:D

    Coolies...

I don't class myself as a Goth. I don't see the point of placing myself into a stereotype. I'm an individual and I wear what I like and what I feel comfortable in. I like black clothing, and some of the Goth fashion. But I am not a goth. I am me!
  14. Gloom Kitty
Well thanks for sharing that with us Tor what brought this on in this thread, no one said anything of the sort here.
  15. Torana
