Setting up Phoenix Force (and the viewers)

By Sylvester · Nov 28, 2008 ·
  1. We know what both Phoenix Force and the kidnappers are planning.

While we don't know why, we do know Jessica is plotting to capture Phoenix Force, subduing them with cotton soaked in an anesthetic. From their planning, we also know much about how they intend to keep the young heroes helpless afterward.

Kelly/Dreamer will be alerted by her psychic powers to the plot, including the plan to drug them with the cotton. They decide to play along with Renee/White Sorceress to cast a spell to protect them from the ether; Beverly/Charmer to use her hypnotic voice to stop the follow up injections of sedatives. Pretending to be drugged, they can then be taken to the kidnapper's lair to learn who is behind it and why.

Jessica and her people carry out their preparations not realizing they are falling right into Phoenix Force's trap.

The key to the plot twist will be the ether used to drug a rag left at the scene of Jessica's faked kidnapping scene.

The clearly labeled bottle is dominant in Kelly's dream. It distracts her (and viewers) from the similar, but slighty larger bottle behind it. It also conceals the label on the bigger bottle so that little or nothing of "chloroform" is seen.

Both in the vision and in real time, the contents of a bottle is poured into plastic bags containing the cotton. The label covered by the hand, the size of the bottle is the only clue to tip off viewers that it's the second bottle and may not be ether.

The bags, the bottle (label unseen), and an injection kit are then shown in a small briefcase. Casually displayed in the background, the ether is still seen on the shelf for sharp eyed viewers to spot.

It's not until they are being restrained by a dozen burly kidnappers and the sweet smelling cotton is clamped securely over their noses and mouths that Phoenix Force learns it not ether. Too late! The chloroform is already putting them to sleep.

Loaded onto Jessica's private jet, a nurse prepares to give them a sedative to keep them out. The label on the bottle in the briefcase is finally shown clearly revealing to viewers that the boy and three girls were given chloroform instead of ether. As they had planned to pretend to be asleep, any thoughts they may be faking are dashed as the nurse administer the injections. Really unconsicous, none lift a finger to resist.

A few moments later, the jet takes off; disappearing into the night sky to deliver the sleeping children to their new home
