To Publish or to POD

By b.rice · Feb 20, 2009 · ·
  1. I've recieved a few brochures from publishing companies and not sure what I should do. It seems to be quite expensive to publish and you really don't have much choice on the quantity. However, the POD seems to be a good idea except for the fact of self distribution and marketing. Who has time for that?
Wondering and conteplating what options I should choose that would benefit both me as the author and the book itself; I wonder if it is all worth it to go with the publishing company.

A thought. Why not try the submission route, starting with larger markets that accept your work (or try for an agent if that seems better to you). If that doesn't work out to your satisfaction, then consider self-publishing.

The only thing it will cost you is time--remembering that the submission process is anything but instant.

If you do go the self-publishing route--and I am saying this more for folks who may stumble across this blog than directly to you, b.rice, because I believe you have--do more research than the advertisements from the various self-publishing companies and get the whole story.

Just my two cents. Good luck.
