After many years focusing on family and career I decided I needed a hobby. Through a bit of soul searching in trying to decide what that hobby might be I realized that over everything else that I liked writing. So in mid 2012 I decided to give it a go.

As an Engineer the majority of my life had been about communicating with CAD models and drawings and numbers. For those of you who do not know any Engineers I'll enlighten you, we are not typically the best communicators where it comes to regular every day language. The more brilliant the engineer the less likely it will be that you will understand him. Oh, he'll be speak the same language as you but he will focus on things that are seemingly meaningless and obsess on things that most people don't care about. It's a gift and a curse. Fortunately, I'm a Design Engineer. We're what you might call the artists of the bunch. Even so we are a varied lot and those artistic talents present themselves in many different ways. Mine has turned out to be writing.

I initially sat down at my computer and just started writing a story to see if I could. I was pleased with how it was coming along but I realized I had short comings. Due to mediocre grammar skills (above average by Engineer standards but still) and my lack of knowledge of the proper way to write fiction I decided to take a Creative Writing course at the local college. I think you'll agree after reading the stories I've chosen to post here that I'm still no Hemingway. I do, however, feel that I have come a long way from that first story.

What started off as a hobby I 'liked' doing last year has grown into one that I love doing today. I find much enjoyment in allowing my mind to meander and create stories from nothing more than my imagination. I enjoy the technical aspect of actually putting that story on paper to convey it to others. And It truly energizes me when someone enjoys something I've written. But, at the end of the day, even if no one read a word I wrote, I would still write because it soothes me like nothing else.
