Shelved between the scholarly journals, in New Times Roman, font size 12, you will find me fidgeting for my final grade in something sophisticated sounding like “the elocution and locomotion of elastic lexicographers”; to whom this alliterative, assonant nonsense means nothing at all.
The surface of such things is always rosy. Advanced degree for advance and be free ... of situation and station? Post and position? Prefer, I, my current employ.
However, one thing does lack and guilt-laden heart does redact: this silly desire to write and be known for tale and truth written upon trace and tabby (a weave, if you may); for angst such as this interferes with the goals of today as surely as it evokes a wish for tomorrow; while smolders the dreams of yesteryear alive like marshmallows, half burnt, with s’mores and echoes of smiles and fading laughter. It is the quest of story: the courting of the written word, which is the dowry of time and memory.
