Great minds must think alike! My Penelope is from a posh family and goes by Poppy as one way to annoy them...it alludes more to her rebellion and free spirit. And my Vincent is a suspected villain who ends up being anything but.

 

And my Penelope is from a broken, drug-smuggling blue-collar family and my Vincent is a through-and-through villain

 

I've forgotten what your original name for Icemail was now - I do remember it's something that resembles ice-cream though Icemail's better I think!

I just realised - your main character's called Dresden? Since it's fantasy, are you sure you want a main character's surname to be the name of a prominent German city? (you even use exactly the same spelling) I remember laughing at Terry Goodkind's chose of place names when his fantasy heroine Kahlan was said to come from the Midlands...

 

Well, Martin wrote a fantasy family with the surname Stark, so I don't think it's that bad.

 

Dresden is a city in Germany? thats news to me... can i say its purely coincidental?

 

@ChaosReigns - lol quite likely you probably heard the name somewhere and stored it in your subconscious without knowing. Happens sometimes. Once I named a woodland in my fantasy story "Ring Wood" - it's the exact name of the street my friend used to live in, but to my knowledge I'd never heard of it before. Dresden isn't so bad and it does sound good - but yeah, definitely a city in Germany so if you do choose to stick with Dresden, it's better that it's not because you didn't know

@KaTrian - Stark doesn't sound so bad to me actually As for the Midlands - it sorta destroys the atmosphere a little in a high fantasy setting if you happen to be British. I studied in the Midlands lol Martin's names (I assume you mean the GoT guy) annoy me in their spelling. I've not read his books, but even I know his character names have stupid spelling! Using perfectly ordinary names and changing one letter does not a new name make - it's just ugly, and at its worst, a misspelling!

 

@Mckk thank you for the information, i think i will keep Isake Dresden, as it flows and that has been the name that ive had floating around for four or five years (an early version of the character appeared in one of my first pieces i wrote) and it appears that by Isake's nature, the city which his surname comes from could be of significance in linked to his history and how he has dealt with it. but those are reasons that i wont state and i will let people decide for themselves if they are aware of Dresden and its history

 

There's this girl on my class who's writing her Master's thesis about ASOIAF, and when we talked about it in class, a lot of people were put off by Martin's names. She mentioned that the reason why Daenerys is called "Dany" is because Martin wants the reader to get closer to the character. I did add (jokingly) that it might also be because Daenerys is a long, ugly name and seeing it everywhere will drive readers crazy so it's just wise to treat them to a simple nickname, Dany

I think 'stark' is German, but I'm familiar with it 'cause it's Swedish as well (like you'd say he's strong like a bull, stark som en oxe or if something as a strong taste). It's said Martin was inspired by the Wars of the Roses, so that might explain why the world seems kind of like a modified version of Great Britain.

I liked the name Pepper Anne from the 90's cartoon. So I had a girl named Pepper but not to coincidentally, I also had a separate female character going by the name of Paprika.

In a amateur detective series I'm working on, Aiden Wolfe is the main character and his sister is Freya, named after the goddess. I also have Derek Winter in the back of my head for another piece.

 

i was going to use Freya as a country name in my current project, but changed it to Gebo which translates as "Gift" but its tree is an elm, which is a common tree in the country that is called Gebo.

 

I am writing a series of books on building the world on this newly discovered earth-like planet and here are my major characters:

I am now in the 10th chapter of the second volume where the 150 unmarried people and 150 couples have been separated into 6ths and are building the other 6 cities and towns in Shelby County, TN besides Memphis, TN.

In my story all the electricity that they have comes from renewable resources. Thus if they get cars they will be all electric and not any one of those gas only or hybrid cars.


In real life I think that if the gas only cars instead of having all compounds come out of the exhaust pipe had a loop in the pipe where compounds other than CO2 can go into than that would lower the VOC level in our atmosphere significantly because CO2 is not volatile and it is not organic despite the fact that it has carbon and that is all that would come out of the main pipe in this sort of design.
