Having worked in a restaurant for most of the time I was at university, my Spidey senses tell me that maybe someone just hooked the wrong box of syrup (diet instead of regular, or vice versa) when the box went dry. It happens. And when it does, it takes a little bit for that diet soda (or regular soda) taste to stop coming through the line, even once the right box gets put.
