I had a mouse or rat infest my home a few days ago. It chewed its way out of one sticky trap. Yesterday I set more and a spring trap. Today, I went to my high shelf for some bread and found the back of the bag and three slices chewed through. I have no idea how he got up there. This guy is fierce and scary.

Got my blood work back today and I had a ever so slightly high Glucose level and a high MVP level. 100 is the high point of the normal glucose level and mine was 101, so though not urgent, it does scare me that if I don't get on the ball I could become diabetic. I know I'm a Most Valuable Person, but upon looking up a blood MVP count it stands for Mean Platelet Volume. Being high is the most common thing for people with an off MVP level, but I don't like the sound of what it could mean no pun intended):

    http://diseaseslist.org/mpv-blood-test-high-low-normal/

So two factors that point diabetes is not good...who wants to be my workout partner?

    There is a solution :

Buy a few mad cats ( no some fat, lazy and sponger cats) and don't feed them a lot, just a little food to be hungry often. Release them in the yard, basement or wherever probably is a suitable place for a mouse or a rat.
Of course I myself had invented an Electronic trap for mouses, a few years ago. When a mouse came to steal the food on the trap, an electrical shock learned it the lesson that it never forgot.

In lieu of any other indicators or risk factors, a blood glucose of 101 (normal is 80-100) is not significant.

Keep feeling really tired and foggy after getting eight or nine hours of sleep. Hopefully the five milligrams of melatonin I take every night is to blame, as persistent drowsiness is listed as one of its side effects. If not, I got nothing. :(

Don't be worried. As Ginger said, 101 is not a noticeable level of blood glucose but it is necessary you supervise your blood glucose for a while to control it. I recommend you, once every two months go for a blood test to be sure, the sugar in your blood is about 80-100 (or 101),
100 is the border of high glucose but it is not the sign of diabetes that you become worried. By a series of tests you can control the quantity of your blood glucose. I also offer, reduce eating sweet foods for a while this diet take back your blood sugar to a low level.

Well it isn't so much what just my glucose levels are, but that it combined with my MVP level both signal diabetes, and who wants diabetes other than Homer Simpson?

Next door neighbor's house was burglarized today. Bummer, too bad the German Shepard that lives there wasn't home either. The bad guy(s) went in a basement window, right in front but hidden from the street by some bushes. They got jewelry, coins and several laptops (3 adults live in the house).

It's a wake up call to be sure I back my novel up every night on the flash drives. And now I'm going to keep one of the flash drives with me. I'm going to stop leaving the laptop out on the charger. My new plan is to keep it hidden in the kitchen where the dogs stay when I'm gone.

I was at the dentist having a tooth pulled when the break in happened, also not so great but it's done. It's going to take 6 months before they can put the implant in and he sent a biopsy off to be sure I only had an infection and not a tumor. I don't think it will be a tumor, the symptoms were more low-grade long term infection than bone tumor.

But the partial I have to wear until the bone heals is obnoxious, too thick, my bottom teeth hit it when I bite down. So, I shall make lemonade and use the time to maybe lose a little weight. It's been getting harder to walk up hills lately, so I think losing a couple pounds will help.

    We'll see.

You could kill two birds with one stone, learn karate: that way you'll get fitter and also learn how to beat the shit out of pesky burglars.

Also, buy some Batman gear and a loud stereo radio that plays the Batman theme if a burglar comes. :D

The burglars notice a house that it has an easy entrance or some backdoor or windows that are unshielded. Also they seek for some sort of the short walls or fences.
Everybody can protect his house by a series of policy considerations :

1- increasing length of the walls
2- arming the top of the fences with barbed wire or similar things
3- setting up some reliable shields for windows
4- using some equipped locks for doors
5- using an electronic alarm that it controls all the doors and windows ( not an alarm that it is triggered unreasonably and thus it annoys neighbors on and off)
6- using an electronic device that it turns on and turns off some lights of the house in a random period at night, when nobody is at home. Thus the probable burglar thinks the owner is at home. I don't know whether this device exist in the markets or no.
7- I don't agree holding a dog inside the home but if it helps the absent owner against a burglar, no problem having one, but it must be held in the yard and in a dog house. The owner should not allow it to arrive his home or rooms.
8- When a person is going to leave his home, he must after locking all the doors, announce his two adjacent neighbors that he is going out and there is not anybody at home.
9- Basically every person must hides all his worthy things in a scour and secret place when he is going out.

This way, if anything does get stolen, you know that one of the two neighbors did it. :p

Usually adjacent neighbors are like friends or family and are reliable unless one of their members is not a good person. For example he is addicted to drugs or alcohol or had been a prisoner already or have had another criminal record.

People would not look well upon a neighbor with barbed wire or embedded broken glass at the tops on the fences around our homes. It's not the custom here as it is in many other countries.

Most people around here keep their dogs inside the house. While many people do have outside-only dogs, the neighbor's dog was not one.

I do agree that the more secure your house is, the more likely thieves will target someone else.

I think the best idea is to put a sign outside your house that reads: "My neighbor doesn't have a house alarm or guard dog, and they are on vacation."
