@Wreybies didn't they teach you how to walk in the jungle while in the military? I'm ready for some animal to jump out one of these times and scare the shit out of you. I think in the video I found the exact spot for my yurt, so keep clearing that out so I have a spot for a well next to the crick.
I received this card not too long ago. Damn, I'm going to have to find a way to resize it. ETA: There we go.
Smooth-Billed Ani, aka Puerto Rican Lawnmower bird. They show up within minutes of starting up the tractor mower and are never seen at any other time. They're super cheeky and will get really close as you mow, eyeballing you, waiting for the tractor to kick up goodies for them.
A Peregrine falcon I saw in Acadia National Park last month. It had just been fighting with a female Hairy woodpecker which seemed to be injured, although there were no visible wounds, The falcon was about 3-4 meters away when I took the photo.
I'm guessing that one's a male. Sleek little bugger. I never see the male kestrel of the pair that lives in my side yard. Only ever the female. Or maybe the chicks have two mommies. 'Never know.
It's really adorable My Mr Kitty has a blown pupil on the left, I don't think he sees at all through that eye, so he never catches anything and he follows me everywhere. Wonky eye cats are really sweet.
And here's my wonky-eyed cat, not that you can see that in this picture because he always closes his eyes at the camera
What is it with cats and wonky eyes? Mine was a rescue animal, and when I got him, he had a torn third eyelid in his right eye. The vet said I had two choices, have it surgically trimmed, a procedure that would require my having to regularly put eye drops in, or leave it as it was and hope for the best. Slater is a patient beast; he'll sit quite happily and let me trim his claws when they start to get so long he can't fully retract them, but as soon as I try to examine that eye he goes into psycho-kitty mode. It doesn't seem to bother him for the most part except for when he or his companion Nezumi are casting badly. It can become infected and swollen, sometimes to the point where his vision becomes obscured. (Easily treated, just hate having to.) Still to this day I wonder if I made the right decision.
@obsidian_cicatrix : You had two choices, and the one you made at least had a chance of complete recovery, I would've chosen the same. Poor kitty, he's probably a bit phobic of anyone touching that eye, since it must have hurt a lot in the past. I had to give eye drops to my dog once, for conjunctivitis, and he was perfect first few times, until he decided enough was enough and it was simply impossible to hold him down for long enough to sneak that drop in. We managed eventually by smearing ointment on our fingers and pretending to clean his eyes, so it cleared but yikes! I'm not looking forward to the next time.
I still have to administer to that eye, but at least I don't have to do it two or three times a day. I'm fairly sure it happened when he was still a kitten, most probably a litter mate or some such. Slater was ok about me touching his eye until I overflowed it and the artificial tears drained down through his nasal cavity. He was not amused. Yup, that's how I do it, but as soon as he sees me getting the stuff ready, he makes a run for it and I end up having to rugby tackle him into submission.
@obsidian_cicatrix : Haha, I am getting the visual Poor cat, does reward work? If he is good with the ointment he gets chicken or some such? Just picked the first crop of tomatoes from the garden, yum!
@jazzabel LOL.. Like he would lower himself to eat chicken. He's a really fussy eater. Pity that, as I always have fresh chicken cooked for the ferrets. Slater eats good quality kibble or nowt. A reward to him is a good brushing with a hound glove. He loves getting scratched. Your tomatoes look great. I'd be doing the same but for my pigeon problem.... they would have ripened up a treat after the last few days sunshine. No strawberries this year either.
Cats are weird, lol. Mine looks at me like I'm Hitler if I don't give him roast meat (chicken breast is his favourite) or some fish. I squeeze in some kibble on the bottom of his bowl, so if he's hungry during the day he'll munch on that. Wet cat food? No way Thanks! I'm really pleased with them. Pity about the pigeons, although you can cloche protect it, I'm gonna do that next year with my broccoli and cauliflower. At the moment, I have an ecstatic family of cabbage butterflies in my broccoli patch, can't believe their bloody luck!
