I wake up a bit late in the day and sit up quickly. "Ah crap what time is it?" I jump up and look to the alarm clock seeing the time. ".....Wait why am I so panicked? It's the free day today duh!" I slap my own forehead gently. "Alright then....what to do." I think a moment sitting on the bed. "I guess a job would be a good idea. " I stand up and walk over to the dresser and pull out a t-shirt and a pair of shorts. I would change and then pull down my hair to brush it. "Well at least I won't have to sit through another boring lecture....until well classes start again." I sigh putting down the brush and putting my hair tie on my wrist for use later. I then grab my knife from under the pillow and tuck it into my pocket alone with what little money I had. "Let's see. I wonder if there's a cafe or something. That'd be useful and waiting tables isn't that hard. I guess I should go check." I step out of my room and lock the door before heading out of the dorms and into the city.
Theos listened to Ace, nodding a few times during the brief speech. "Inability to stand idly by while mages are being senselessly murdered. Wanting to assist our fellow mages unfold justice. These are two ideals we share." Theos attention focused more towards the others. "As long as you trust them, so do I." Due to agreeing with Theos, Roy nodded and finally spoke. "Wouldn't that make the current question at hand, what is our next lead?" Roy held his ordinary monotone expression, eyes focused on Donny who held a steady glare upon him.
Jinx felt a wave of nausea run through her again,"As pleasant as this conversation is, and the help is much appreciated. I really just want to go home." She stepped away from Theos and looked towards the door,"By myself, might I add. Oh yes. I forgot." She made her way to the main desk and gave a simple smile,"Excuse me miss. I heard your mortician just had a sudden heart attack as of late and was wondering if I could offer my services. I am legal age and have done some work back home." The lady looked her over with an overjoyed expression,"Actually yes. Fredrick is out for a few weeks and we wouldn't be able to receive a new mortician for a few weeks. With the recent murders some help would be much appreciated. Bring in a resume tomorrow and we can see what we can do." Jinx smiled weakly, her eyes slumping as she walked for the door. She wasn't one to depend on anyone when she was feeling down,but suddenly the urge to throw up overcame her and she ran to a garbage can and spewed whatever was residing in her stomach. She swore wanting to just hunk herself into a chair to go to sleep.
"Whoever is yanking my tail: yes, it is real, no you may not touch!" I spun around as I shouted, only to feel an incredible amount of guilt at the look of the girl's face as she gaped at me. Groaning, I slapped my paw against my head, and let out a breath. "Can you please point me to the hospital area?" I asked. "I need to hand in my medical stuff." The girl's face brightened a bit and she gave me some instructions. I nodded, thanked her, and walked off. "Yes, the ears are real as well!" I called out to her as I walked away. She giggled and ran off. I shook my head, exasperated, but a bit amused. Not many six foot tall, Christmas colored coyote wolf hybrid anthros walking around, even if they were human once. I grinned as I entered the hospital area. "Heya!"
I listened to the conversation quietly and blushed slightly when Ace smiled at me. "I think we can trust them, I mean they are just trying to help and not accepting the help of someone that knows more about the island than us would be foolish... oh... um... one thing, Ace, Jinx was poisoned with curare, is it possible to get that poison here?" I asked... then my attention was turned toward something else in the background behind Ace... a green and red wolf or cayote anthro walking into the hospital. "...That's something you don't see everyday." I thought.
"It isn't?" replied Hikaru "There was a dragon girl the first day if I recall correctly, I think that is more unlikely to be seen" stated.
My nose twitched, the antiseptic smell getting to me. I glanced at the people a few feet away, and grinned, waving. "Oh, hey," I said. "Errr, is there a doctor or something around? I need to hand in my medical sheets..." I glanced back at them, then down at myself, then at my tail. "Do I have something in my tail?" I wasn't actually that oblivious, but, it's a nice ice breaker.
"Doctor is inside" pointed Hikaru. "But there is something of more important matter now!!!" exclaimed the girl as she got close to the guy "You'll see there had been a serie of murders of students on the late, and I'm totally not the murderer, so your medical sheet will have to wait 'cause we casually need some.... canine, to track curare!!!" stated with a smile on her face that soon turned in a expression of disgust. "You stink..... btw, what are you?" said while pocking him in the forehead with one hand and covering her nose with the other.
"Uh, wait, what? You want me to track some guy?" I was a bit put off at being put on the spot, and half her words barely registered in my head. Except that last bit. "And I'm CLEAN, thanks!" I pointed out. "I showered this morning!"
I chuckled at his joke and then looked at Hikaru as she went over to the boy. "Hikaru, that's extremely rude." I said frowning, I turned to him. "I-I'm sorry about my friend's behavior, I'm sure that if you just leave your papers at the reception it should work." I said, I bowed apologetically.
"It's fine," I said, placing said papers at the desk. "I did want to talk about some dietary stuff, but, I guess that can wait." I held out a paw to the other guy. "I'm Tam." I wrinkled my nose as another scent filled the air, and went red under my fur. This kid's hormone's had gone off the charts recently enough that I could pick up pheromones. Yikes.
I took his paw and shook it. "It's nice to meet you Tam, I'm Joe, welcome to the island. But do be careful. There's been a string of murders recently. Someone's targeting mages. So, just be cautious at night and be sure to stick with a group." I said.
I glanced at the red paw attached to the green furred arm, and around my body. "Yeah, I don't think I'll make that obvious a target," I said, grinning. "Nice to meet you, Joe. What are you able to do here at Xavier's Institute?"
I rubbed the back of my head and chuckled. "Um... well I have light magic, which may explain why you might feel completely and utterly calm, I can heal people, I'm also interested in getting into alchemy, and I practice archery... I have something else, but I'm not really certain how to explain it... what about you?" I asked smiling, I had been referring to my calming aura, it didn't seem to have an off switch.
"Hard light magic," I said, pointing. A beam of light erupted from my finger and it smacked against the wall. "Not that strong, but, pretty bright. I also have super strength and my senses are somewhat heightened." I tapped my nose. "I was kind of surprised that my form doesn't have heightened senses, I had to magically heighten them. Other than that, I'm okay with my music. I play guitar and sing a bit." I glance at Joe, and point at my ears. "They're real. You can touch. Don't pull."
I jumped a bit when the beam of light shot out of his finger. "I see." I said smiling and then looked at his ears when he said that I could touch them, it felt like an invasion of someone's personal space though, so I refrained from touching his ears. "I'm good... so was this something that you had when you were born, or spell gone awry?" I asked.
I was slightly disappointed he didn't go ahead and touch, but decided to ignore it. "Spell gone awry," I said. "I was wandering the woods looking for the Rake or something, wound up accidentally walking into a spell that altered my appearance. Frankly, I'm kinda glad. I kinda sorta hated being human. Err, no offense."
"I see." I said, I chuckled. "And none taken. If this is what makes you feel comfortable in your skin you should be free to make that decision. Besides... it's kind of cute." I said smiling and then rubbed the back of my head. "Er... sorry, I just like animals, especially dogs and cats, n-not saying that you're an animal, just that you look like one... I'm not making this any better am I?" I asked.
I laughed. "Nah, you're cool, mate," I said, holding myself up against the wall. "It's pretty adorable, actually." My face felt warm, I blamed it on my fur. "But, yeah, got fur, got fangs, got a tail... it's a lot of fun at times, actually. Managed to convince an entire town I was a werewolf once."
"Adorable...?" I wondered, I wouldn't really put it like that. It was a huge blunder... it really made me look like an idiot. I chuckled when he told me about his escapade. "Seriously? How did you manage to get away? I mean they must've tried to take you down, unless it's a special place like here where everyone's a mage or everyone knows about magic..." I said.
"Nah, they just caught a glimpse of a bipedal canine once every few weeks, and then I would hide," I said. "I kinda thought that the green fur would be brought into question at some points, but, eh. Speaking of which, the reason for this is that I had had my hair dyed green at the time. THAT'S embarrassing."
"I see." I said, I laughed. "You would think that it would have used your natural hair color... what's with the red coloring though?" I asked tilting my head. "Did your hair have some red in it too?" I asked.
"Same reason, just red streaks in my hair," I explained. "Makes my paws look awesome, though." I grinned, and patted Joe on the shoulder. "Nice talking to you, but, I gotta get going and such. Need to find my dorm and everything. Later, cutie!" I winked at him as I left the office, then walked briskly down the hall. That hadn't been too bad.
"It was nice talking to you too." I said smiling and then I blushed when he called me 'cutie'. "Er... what?" I asked, it had come out of left field and I had never been flirted with, nor did I ever really find myself cute. He was already gone by the time the words had left my mouth. I blinked a few times and then walked back to the others. "S-Sorry." I said rubbing the back of my head.
Theos didn't pay much attention to Tam as he arrived and began talking with Joe. Theos was more focused on the well-being of Jinx. Then proceeding with pursuit of this killer. "We should devise a way for us to communicate with ease if we plan to work together. Jinx, I feel your dorm-room could be dangerous because if I recall the culprit has your keys? If that is the case, staying there should be your last resort." Theos thought of other options, he would suggest a hotel though funding could be an issue. Roy's attention narrowed onto Tam, inquisitive about the individuals powers. Roy listened as Tam told Joe about himself and took leave. Not taking in really what Tam said except when it came to his unnatural form. Roy contemplated what others would think of his ability. Roy further contemplated on the last time he actually used said talents......
