Ow! @stevesh, that map is painful to look at. I don't know who some of those people are, and the ones whose names I recognize, I wouldn't want to listen to.
Just discovered the Punch Brothers. Omigod. To be a teenager again ...posters, etc ...but hey, these guys are good enough for old farts like me to just listen to. And no, they're not a bluegrass band, despite appearances. GREAT stuff. I just went and bought two of their CDs.
I'm always promoting upcoming artists. He has something to say if you understand the words. Auto-tune, sure way to scare older folk away
There are so many good tracks on that album that it's hard to pick a favourite. In the Flesh, The Trial, Comfortably Numb, Goodbye Blue Sky (with that fantastic reference to Brave New World) and Hey You. So much greatness!
I don't know why, but the one part I look forward to is when the teacher says, "What have we here, laddie? Mysterious scribblings? A secret code? No - poems, no less - poems everybody! The laddie reckons himself a poet!"
Haha, that teacher was so angry. :') It is all those evenings when 'their fat psychopathic wives would thrash them to within inches of their lives!' The bit that always gets me, for some reason, is the nazi rally at the end. It's scary.
Get into some of the older material like Obscured by Clouds and Meddle if you haven't already. I know most pretentious muso types say they like the Syd Barrett years, well I don't. As twee and quintessentially English as it is, I prefer the early post Barrett years' honesty in finding a direction and sound.
my very favorite "stop sitting around and go do something NOW DAMMIT" music: (content warning: no words, pounding base, slightly off-rhythm tune with vaguely ominous/threatening vibe to it, how do I even describe this, also LOUD)
Not posted in here for a while so here's a small download; The Contortionist - I didn't like their earlier stuff but this is much more atmospheric; Rammstein - I like very little of their stuff but this one always has me bopping along; Polyphia - Turd video but you can't deny the musicianship; Piano - The vocalist, Dan Tompkins, is probably one of the best british alternative vocalists out there at the moment. along with Piano, he sings for Haji's Kitchen, TesseracT, Skyharbour, In Colour and White Moth Black Butterfly, along with solo stuff; And then there's Aphex Twin with a touch of Donkey Rhubarb; I could watch this 1,000,000 time sober and not know wtf is going on....
Looking forward to the new Yellowcard and New Found Glory albums coming out next month. Unlike a lot of people I'm actually enjoying Yellowcard's new stuff. Took me a few listens to get used to, but I enjoy it now.
