Another one I saw on the site was a 'nightmare' of coconut crabs. I think they should send a petition to someone to get that changed.
I'm reading what has got to be the worst short story I've read in ages. It's called 'The Clock' by Neil M. Gunn. It's boring, the plot doesn't make any sense, and it is fantastically overwritten. I love discoveries like this, it's the thought of 'Wow, that was fucking dreadful, and this guy published regularly!'
But whatever you do, don't watch the TV series. Boring and bears no resemblance to the story in the book.
I've been reading a bit of Stephen King recently, and I really don't know why. I don't want to say King is all bad, because to be honest he's not (and I'm a hard guy to please) but he seems to be obsessed with these long stories. I want to read It, have another bash at The Stand (I started reading a friends copy but she wouldn't let me borrow it) and Under the Dome. I have a feeling I'm going to ultimately regret doing this, but what the hell. Really? Now that is interesting. How?
Just that. The book and the TV series are both about a group of people trapped under a dome (though the TV people aren't trapped completely). The resemblance ends there. They should have done a one-season mini-series and followed the book, which I enjoyed. Greed will out in television, though. You might also want to check out Duma Key. Pretty good. I just read Four Past Midnight. Meh.
I had no idea they did that. I watched a lot of the show at first, but missed an episode and had to stop. The same thing happens with TV series all the time, I should really wait for the DVDs to come out. Duma Key is one of those books I always seem to keep missing out on. The last time I saw it in a book shop I was looking for something specific and couldn't really spare the time, and it was sold the next time I went in. I will read it one day, but today obviously is not that day. I've just read Dreamcatcher - fart aliens trying to take over the world. It was a silly little adventure, but fun while it lasted.
I just spend a lot of time grooming two of my friend's horses. That is even worse than savate tights and here I thought that'd be impossible!
Perhaps mods get buttering-up likes. If you like a mod enough, s/he might just feel forgiving next time you type something controversial in the Debate Room.
I think you only like my posts if I post potentially hilarious yet slightly dumb pictures. Like the fighting unitard guys up in this thread, and I haven't posted that many of them! And no, my mod integrity won't be swayed by those sweet, ego-stroking likes. Perish the thought!
Not true, @KaTrian. You realize, don't you, that those fighting unitard guys would look just fine if you put them on the cover of a superhero comic book. And maybe you're mixing cause and effect. Maybe you're a mod because you're likable!
I want to apologize to all the new people I haven't welcomed to the forum. After all my time on forums I find it particularly hard to write a unique welcoming post to someone in their introduction thread. I'm not sure what's worse, a cookie cutter welcoming message or no post at all. So welcome everyone to the board and please excuse the dirty laundry and pizza boxes all over the place!
