I think I found a solution to the problem! Earlier today I stumbled upon something called "NaNoGenMo" (National Novel Generation Month):
I knew a journalist (from the old days) who could type 100 wpm...8 hours straight, job done...or 50 wpm for 16 hours...no toilet breaks, no writer's block.
In the same way that being able to produce 50,000 words in a day, or even in a month, is not the same as a producing something worth reading. I was answering the question "Is it physically possible?" I've had the same doubts about people producing 50k in a day, or even a weekend. From my own perspective, at 3600 after 8 days, I've pretty much given up...but I'll keep writing to see if I can produce a novel, and if it's this November or next November, or the next millenium...
Oh, I see. Missed that bit. However, that you can write 100 words a minute for a short time still does not prove that it's possible to do it for 8 eight hours. Imagine that pain and blisters on your fingers. But who knows? Maybe someone can actually do it!
Falling behind. Yesterday wrote nothing, day before that only got 500. At 4,543. Sure doesn't help my dedication to not write a day. To make my weekly goal I need 8,000 in two days. Haha. I'm just going to reach for my 2,000 a day normal goal. Anything over will be a nice bonus.
I'm already hard at work, using NaNoWriMo as an excuse to pound out the last few chapters. I'm so close to having a working manuscript I can taste it. Tastes like victory. And chicken. But mostly victory.
Way behind - didn't get anything done last night but the night before I got like 800 words done but I had to back peddle and erase a scene and redirect it - I'm not sure how to even calculate that because I'm left with about three hundred words.
Got 1,000 more done yesterday (up to 5,542)...and I'm thinking it was a mistake to just start writing something with no story. I had a vague idea, mostly just a main character, which has developed some, but enough? And do I even like it? I'm unsure, but my word count for this is now about the same for a project I was previously working on (5,314 words). That got me thinking about abandoning the original NanoWrimo for a story I've actually developed and know I like. It's also something I know I want to finish. I'll likely switch, but will make up my mind today and STICK to it. Going back and forth is not my goal for nano.
34% through my novel at day 10. I'm doing the Young Writer's program of it, so my goal is only 30,000 words, but that means that I've written 10,200 words in ten days, which I'm pretty pleased about. Especially since I was about 800 words behind earlier today.
5 days of no writing! Need to get my ass back into gear. I'm also considering starting each month with the intention of writing 50,000 until it happens, heh.
Wrote 3 sentences last night - first writing in about five days. I wish I would've wrote earlier - I left it till midnight and then just as I was starting to get into the scene I got sleepy and had to quit.
I'm was sitting at just shy of 22,000 at the half way mark. A little under the goal I suppose but not too far. I'm starting to feel the suck now.
I gave up. Couldn't come through with enough for my erotica piece, and couldn't get started with my new sci-fi piece. Besides, actual work got in the way and I'm going to have to go to Georgia in the first week of December and the month has gone to ratshit.
Sorry to hear that. I haven't wrote 5 days in total this month and I've had a lot of time off work. Bad!
Well I quit. I never wrote for my piece after deciding to switch what I was working on. I got distracted by some things and then sunk into a lazy lull. Of course, I'm sure Nano is meant to help push past life distractions...oh well! I'm going to begin December with the intention of getting 50,000 words written. Also hoping to write most of the days in this last week of November.
30 for 30 - final story just posted. Not the same challenge you lot were doing, but still kinda pleased I managed it.
Nice. Did anyone actually register and do all 50,000? I didn't register since I was trying to finish my half written novel (and therefore didn't qualify). Finished with over 44,000 words through the month. Not bad. Book should be done in the next two weeks. I'm excited.
I didn't finish. I got distracted working on my book trailer. No worries though. Even when I did finish last year I didn't manage to have anything complete. Plus I'm thinking that Smackdolligus might be better off as a novella than a short story. Maybe I'll try working on it this month, don't know though. I wish the book trailer idea could go a bit faster.
