Here's a recipe. The best find of 2014, hands down http://ohsheglows.com/2014/01/20/cauli-power-fettuccine-alfredo-vegan/
I will definitely try this! An interesting Alfredo I used to make at a restaurant in Milwaukee, used Cajun spices, Parmesan cheese and heavy whipping cream. Came out ever so tasty!
As a kid, I used to think that pizzas made at pizza parlors were better than frozen pizzas that you purchase at the grocery store. However, over the last few years, I've found that certain frozen pizzas are just as good. Tonight for supper I had Five Cheese Frozen Pizza. It was good and easy to make...just throw it in the oven, heat and enjoy.
^ I miss Chicago deep-dish pizza. All the imitators don't understand it, and the idea of a Domino's deep dish pizza is practically sacrilege. I wish there was a Giordano's in Milwaukee.
It's been ages since I ate a Chicago Deep Dish Pizza myself. I love the Deep Dish Pizza. It's so thick that it's like eating pie.
When I attended the University of Waterloo, there was a local pizza joint called Frank Vetere's. It was actually a Toronto-based chain. The deep-dish pizza they served was to DIE for. They screwed up in a big corporate expansion, though, and had to sell out, and nothing was ever the same again. But for a while, we had FRANK VETERE'S PIZZA!!
Pizza Hut used to have Chicago Deep Dish Pizza specials. I don't know if they still do every so often or not.
Oh god, bad childhood memories of shitty Pizza Hut pizza. I just... I can't order from there. Can't do it.
I don't like ordering from Pizza Hut either, but where else can I go? Domino's? Jeez. Little Caesar's? Forget it. Papa John's? I am politically opposed to him, and he undercooks his pizzas anyway. There are two locally-owned pizza joints near me, and they both suck. Where do I go for a decent pizza?
Honestly, I usually hit up either Domino's or Ian's, but Ian's is a smaller, more local chain. Even if it's not the best pizza I've had, they can't really screw up too badly. Little Caesar's is disgusting. You pay so little and yet what you pay for tastes like cardboard.
^ I had an argument (more in jest than seriousness) with a friend who hails from NYC that Chicago deep dish was better than New York thin crust, which actually led to us meeting in Chicago in person for the first time. I didn't convince her, but we did have that pizza.
I can't stand the fact that there's no good pizza anywhere near me. Pizza seems simple. Get some good dough for the crust, good sauce, fresh mozzarella and other cheeses, fresh toppings. Wood-fired hot pizza oven. Done. You have a thing of beauty. Nobody does this!!! At least, not around here. What the hell is wrong with people that they think lousy pizza is good enough?
^ Pizza is one of those foods that's hard to screw up, so when it does get screwed up, it's absolutely awful. Case in point, Pizza Hut; I didn't even know I liked pizza until I got to my teen years and had better kinds. I thought it was all awful.
My friends come over the other day and make pizza dough, we go for a walk and when we get back, they take out their pizza stone, which goes into the oven and gets heated to 500 and then the pizza dough gets rolled out and plastered with stuff. The whole thing takes 6 minutes to bake. We eat and eat and eat. That was, is, and always will be the best pizza I ever had.
I haven't been there in over ten years, I think. The closest one is in a mall I absolutely HATE because you can't park anywhere near the place - it turns a simple trip out to get pizza into a nightmare.
There's one in Gurnee -- not that ridiculous of a drive. I doubt there's anyplace in L.A. Hop a plane to NYC. I love Chicago deep dish pizza. And I love NYC thin crust pizza. To me, they are TOTALLY DIFFERENT FOODS. And that's the third pizza entry -- I love CPK too, although not as much since they got rid of their garlic chicken pizza AND their pear gorgonzola pizza. But, AGAIN, this is not really pizza to me. It is California pizza, which is again, in itself wonderful. But it is not NYC pizza. It is not Chicago pizza. It is its own thing. I could totally have regular pizza for lunch and CPK for dinner.
I live in a multicultural neighborhood so anyway I walk is several different pizza shops all with their unique pizzas. Some are terrible, some are amazing. Including this one Sicilian place. You're all talking about Deep dish, but Sicilian Pizza done right, that's the stuff.
Who here likes to eat hot dogs that are black from being on the outdoor grill for a long time? I know I like it.
Cinder dogs? Sorry, I'll pass on those. Hot dogs should be juicy, not crunchy. I've eaten them anyway, but only because the alternative is going without dinner.
There's a food thread ... THERE'S A FOOD THREAD!! I love cooking. I work in a kitchen. And I love being creative with food. I'm not always good at it but ... One of my fave things to make at this time of year are gingerbread reindeer! Off to find a pic for you!
