I think I'm just about there. I've written, edited, gotten feedback, edited some more, gotten more feedback, consulted a professional, edited some more and gotten a bit more feedback. I've now completed, by my count, six distinct drafts. My most faithful beta-reader (and a damned good friend!) has declared it ready to go. It feels complete. So, I am going to set it aside for a few weeks and do other things, allow my mind to let it go for a bit. Then, I'll read through it again and see if it really does resist any further change. And then, it will be time to move on to the querying process.

Today I'm happy because my mechanic will be able to look under my vehicle to make sure everything is in order before Christmas.

It would've been a problem if I could not have gotten this appointment until after Christmas.

    So I'm lucky.

I'm happy because I finally got home from Calhoun, Georgia late last night! What a nightmare of an install trip that was. Still, a night in my own bed was just what the doctor ordered and I'm feeling better and much happier today.

Lots to do - gotta take care of all the business that piled up while we were gone. It'll probably be a pretty busy day.

It's been so long since I last wrote a story using pen and paper. It feels so strangely... liberating.
No distractions, no fancy functions. Just the pen and I.

I'm happy that there is still some snow on the ground here in Maine. And I hope it doesn't melt away before Christmas Day.

Normally I don't like snow. But I like it during Christmas time.

    My poor baby. :(

As you can probably tell, my cat had to have her back leg amputated earlier this week. Now this might seem like an odd thing to post in a "happiness" thread, but I am just so damn grateful that she is okay it felt wrong to put anywhere else.

Binx has been my best friend since I was 10 years old and now that she is 16, she is starting to get up there in cat years. A couple of years ago she developed feline diabetes which we keep under control with daily doses of insulin. Up until then she never showed her age and after we got her blood-sugar stabilized she went right back to running and playing with the other cats like she was still a kitten. I had to leave her behind when I moved to Brasil last year, but she is with my mom right now, the best person in the world to take care of her until I move back. We aren't sure how it happened but Monday night she fell off of one of the kitchen chairs and we think caught her leg somehow on the way down, causing it to twist and break at the worst possible angle right below the femoral head. There was no good way to set or pin the bone back together, so the vet felt amputation was the best course of action.

It hasn't even been a week yet and she is already home, eating fine (though she suckered my mom into giving her special canned food,) walking on her own, trying to jump up on furniture (which she is not supposed to yet because of the stitches,) and giving my mom hell for making her wear the Cone of Shame.

I can say without the slightest doubt that my 16 year old, diabetic, 3-legged cat is tougher than I will ever be.

Happy because I finished my first novel today.

108, 641 words. 14 chapters. 18 months of my life (started writing it in Afghanistan).

It's just the first step of many, many more but I'm glad I can finally join the club of those who did it rather than just talking about it.

I'm an atheist, but I love Christmas. I love the spirit of the time - the giving, the decoration, the food and drink, the togetherness, the music. I don't celebrate Christmas because I believe in Jesus Christ, I celebrate it because it's an excuse to visit family and sing great songs and give to each other. Rum and egg nog! Trees with lights! Happy kids! What's not to love?

    Merry Christmas!

I have a couple of dollars too, but they aren't yet hunnid dollars. Maybe this afternoon I will put them through the hunnidization process. Once they're hunnidated, I will proudly display them alongside yours and you will be envious of how hunnid my two dollars are!

    :p
