Discussion in 'Character Development' started by Ankoku Teion, Jan 27, 2015.

i need some names for characters, ive tried using generators but i cant find anything i like.

what im looking for is 3 names, comprised of softer sounds and with a greek hint. one quite grand and two simple.

to give you an idea the name of the country they are from is ehllagrin and they belong to the religion of Elhoin

Baby naming websites are gold - especially when naming ethnic characters. Since you have a fantasy world - you can do pretty much anything - but if you're looking at a vague Greek sound, I'd maybe pick out some actual Greek names and swap a few letters. That, and maybe it's because I write political stuff, but one of my favorite tricks for foreign names is to pull up a list of that nation's members of Parliament...usually gives you a fun cross-section with a few weird names you otherwise wouldn't think of. I have two Israeli characters who I named by taking two members of the Israeli Knesset and swapping their first and last names. Also, sports team rosters are fun to mine.

Hmm - I'm bored so going through the Greek Parliament now...

Found one lady whose first name is "Iro". That's simple and soft and could go either gender in English.

Another one is named "Aichan" - kinda close.

Another lady named "Foteini" - that's fun

    One guy named "Timoleon"

    Lady named "Eleni"

    One guy named "Menelaos"

Those all strike me as partially getting toward the sound you're looking for.

Also if those don't work for you try looking at Welsh names - your country and religion name sound vaguely Celtic.

Try seventhsanctum.com. That link goes to their "greek-ish" generator. They aren't actually anything in greek, but they sound like it.

I've always found the following names quite appealing: -

Bruce Forsyth, Noel Edmunds and Richard Madeley.

I might then modify them so that they sound more Greek, as follows: -

Bruce Forsythis, Noel Edmondos and Richard Madelelios.

I think Bruce would be the grand one, and the other two would be simpler.

Just some ideas, you don't have to use them.

Never mind about what I originally wrote. Anyways, the parliament names sound like they would work.
