    Meanwhile.
Adam had finally entered the famous Athene Academy. Well, he corrected himself, famous to those who had the knowing at least. For most, this would just be another school for overpriviliged rich brats which only distinction was a higher number of scholarships then usual. Nothing to worry over, as long as you didn't look too closely at the requirements one needed to have to get said scholarship.
At the receptionist counter, he was redirected to the office of a ms. Reynolds which was apparently situated in the big clock tower, strange choice of location, but who was he to judge. Adam studied the map on the wall thoroughly, memorizing the route, and went on his merry way.

"Agreed, keep that thing away from me... wait... just everyone stay away from me, I think that'd be best, after all, I hate you all, you hate me, I think that's one thing we can all agree on and I don't think that's something we'll be changing anytime soon." I said, I turned to the trunk and looked at the books that Edgar had placed in the trunk, mainly on creatures and lore. At least they were useful subjects in this case. "Anything else that anyone wants to place in here? I'd rather not have to stick around you people longer than I have to. So, chop chop, put your crap in, so long as it isn't useless, put it in and get the hell out." I said, an edge of annoyance in my voice.

Edgar frowned,"Not everyone hates you Joe. You just make it difficult for us to like you."

Erza piped in,"Yeah, because your a total Jacka..."

Edgar snapped,"Erza enough. Let's go for a walk. If he wants to be alone then let him. I'm sure he's used to it with that attitude."

Erza sighed, jumping off the desk and waving at Cindy,"See you at the mission. Miss Cinderella."

Edgar followed her out into the hall and shoved his hands in his pockets,"You shouldn't be rude to him like that. He obviously is harboring something. Annoying him won't help with anything."

Erza paused in her walk,"Excuse me! The dick called me a bimbo, and a slut. He comments on my lack of intelligence and reliance on my looks and I am the one who is getting a lecture. Bullshit."

Edgar shook his head,"No lecture. You're not a bimbo or a slut. Your intelligence is perfectly adequate and no one thinks you have to rely on your looks to win in a fight. His opinion..is an opinion. It's a minimal comment that means nothing unless you feed it. Let it die and move on. Unfortunately we have to work with him so..it's best if you just ignore him. The only reason he does it is to make you angry."

Erza sniffed and gave a stiff nod,"Fine..I won't speak to the dweeb. Happy?"

    He smiled,"Yes thank you."

"Edgar I don't know if anyone has told you this, but for first impressions you're a bit overwhelming."

He blushed rubbing his arm,"Well that's...uh...part of the charm?"

Erza smiled,"You're such a goof. Are you hungry?"

He eyed her ice cream cone for a few seconds and shook his head,"No.."

She rolled her eyes,"Come on..let's go to the cafeteria and get to know each other better. We're best friends now so it's only proper that I know some things about you."

Edgar followed her as she started up walking again,"You're going to be my best friend! Oh this is going to turn out lovely."

Erza touched her nose,"Do I detect sarcasm, my young chap? You are damn lucky to have a best friend like me. I can cook a mean haggis, can axe through a tree in about 5 minutes and I will always have your back if someone tries to hurt you."

He stopped,"You are going to protect me..wow...that's cute."

Erza kept walking,"The cute part is the fact that you think I can't."

He ran up to her and laughed, his voice going up a tone,"Well my protector. I am quite famished. Will you make sure no one tries to beat or rape me on our way there."

Erza laughed, and smacked him in the belly,"You are such a shit!"

They both headed to the cafeteria, there chuckles reverberating down the hall.

Adam was dying, his hair turned grey, his skin wrinkled. Centuries past and his bones turned to dust along with the building he was in. After millennia earth ended, and the universe followed into the void an eternity later. Then, miraculously, a new universe started with a big bang, and a from the dust of forming stars a new earth was formed. In this earth life began anew, fish crawled out of the water, monkeys started walking on two legs, and after thousands of years of history Athena Academy was founded. The best part? The reborn Adam Lobe was still waiting in the lobby of the clocktower when the door finally opened. Adam entered the office seeing a stern-looking young woman sitting behind the desk. "Well that didn't take as long as I thought it would."

Peggy looked up from her work. "Can I help you?" She asked, she tended to believe that those that didn't show up for orientation weren't interested or had been... recruited by another school. So she wasn't expecting any new students.

"Excuse me miss, I'm Adam Lobe. My flight was delayed a week, those Icelandic volcanoes, you know how it is. Anyhow, I only just managed to arrive."

She sighed. "Of course." She muttered, she got up. "Well, I'll give you a quick orientation and then give you your uniform. Follow me, I'll show you around the school." She said, she briskly walked out of her office.

Adam walked after her, even had to up his own pace to keep up, as the woman gave him the tour of the school and explained him the general rules. He personally liked the lay-out, very spacious. And he found himself wondering why such a poor sap like him was invited to this place. His grades were good, but not that good.

She ended the tour at the main entrance, she put her index finger to her chin. "You know, I almost never do this, but for you, I'll make an exception, I'll take you on a little tour of one of the sections of the school... the first stop, the gym." She said smiling pleasantly as she walked into the supernatural side of the school, at this time no one would be out and about, so no fear of one of the students going a bit... native. She stopped outside of the gym and gestured for him to go inside, smiling pleasantly. "After you." She said.

Adam did not like the sudden change of mood of his guide. At first she seemed a little grumpy, then she suddenly smiled and offered to show him an exclusive and probably private area. He could only think of one reason... She must have fallen for him and wanted them to be alone together before she exclaimed her forbidden love for a student. Adam had read 'Notes on a scandal' and this situation felt exactly like that book. Great, now he had to think of a way to let her down gently. She was pretty enough, but teacher-student romances never work out, and Adam didn't feel the need for that kind of drama in his life.
Adam started shaking his head. Down boy, you are overthinking it again. It's probably nothing special, just go in and you'll find out. If your love theory is correct you can just lie and tell her you're gay, problem solved. With that in mind, Adam stepped into the gym.

She walked in after him, turned around, looked around, and locked the door. "Good, we're alone." She said, still smiling pleasantly... she then withdrew a long knife... but several more floated behind her, pointing at Adam. "Let's see what your insides look like." She said. At that moment, the knives flew straight at him.

Well, my love theory was wrong, was the only thought Adam managed before the knives reached him. Lucky for him, his arms were a lot faster on the uptake then the of his head, else he'd be a fleshy pincushion right now. Instead, he produced one of his own hidden knives, deflecting one of the projectiles coming at him while dodging the rest. Except one. One long knife slashed his left arm, which hurt like hell but wouldn't slow him down just yet. If the fight dragged on that would be completely different matter, so he'd better win or flee fast before blood loss would make him lose consciousness. He quickly scanned his surroundings and got an idea. It was not a good idea, on any other occasion it would be the stupidest thing anybody could do, but a magical opponent using flying knives warranted a desperation play. Besides, she'd never see it coming. Adam threw his knife, and he didn't even threw it anywhere near Reynolds. Instead he threw it at the light switch while using Sound Manipulation to dampen all sound made by him and strengthen his own hearing. And he'd be damned if he didn't thank all the gods and their pal Darwin when he actually hit it and the gym was covered in darkness.

"...Good, you passed." She said in the darkness, suddenly the gym was illuminated with a few flames that hung in midair, he'd feel the pain in his arm disappear, she turned on the lights, the knives that she had thrown at him, along with the one that she had in her hand were no longer there, nor was the tear in his clothing or in his arm. She had sensed him using magic. "Sorry, but I had to force you into using your magic, don't worry, they were merely illusions, no long lasting consequences." She said.

Adam didn't say anything, he just stared at the woman, showing no emotion. After what seemed hours, he just said: "Aha". He then brought his sound dampening field back up and hoped Reynolds couldn't read lips. Because there was going to be a lot of swearing with much imagination and sincerity.

She had turned around and adjusted her glasses. "You know, it's quite rude to speak like that in the presence of a lady." She said as she turned around and walked out of the gym, not even looking behind her to see if he was following as she walked back to her office.

And of course the magical women could still hear him. "I liked you better when you were throwing knives at me." Adam grumbled whilst keeping his mouth shut and he followed her silently. He hoped not everyone in this school was such a stick-in-the-derrière.

She walked into her closet, reached into one of her drawers, placed a blue uniform, a key to his new dorm room, and a list of classes on her desk, obviously she was still prepared even if he wasn't intent on coming... or she managed to contact someone in advance while he wasn't paying attention. She then sat down. "Now, we'll just need to know which classes you'd like to enroll in, just take a look at that list and we'll finish registering you." She said.

Adam scanned the list, choosing classes wouldn't be too hard, his ability made theoretical studies a breeze, and he was quite interested in the history of the magical world. Lastly, he hadn't forgotten the slash from earlier. Even if it was fake, he couldnt afford to remain unable to tend to his own wounds, or else he'd really bleed out next time. Still grumpy, but his curiosity peaked at these strange classes, he handed Reynolds the filled-in list.

    Magic 101
    Beginner's Alchemy/Potion Making
    Sparring
    Introduction to Archaeology
    First Aid
    Soul Magic Studies
    Magical History

She recorded his classes and printed out his schedule, placing it on his uniform. "Now, go get situated and then report to Mr. Dodgson, hopefully you can still squeeze in with another group..." She said, most groups had already departed and returned.

Adam scurried away to dump his stuff in his new room, cursing all ashclouds and the volcanoes from whench they came. In his room, he quickly changed into his new uniform, who'd have thought he'd ever wear a school uniform, let alone attend a posh foreign private school, bloody commonwealth. Oh well, he'd better hurry to this Dodgson fellow before he got left out of these groups Reynolds was talking about, he was already behind a week. He didn't fancy being a social pariah, so he should make an effort to meet people. He could take a good look at their memories after meeting them first, with their permission of course. Naturally.
Back at the clock tower, this time to the dean's office, Adam gniffled when he saw the plaque, this guy seemed a lot less serious. He half expected a voice to ask "who approaches?" when he knocked on the door.

"Who dare approaches this hallowed room?" Charles' voice boomed from the other side of the door.

I'll be damned, called that one nicely, Adam thought. "It's Dorothy," he called back whilst opening the door. He then looked around the room theatrically. "Why, this isn't Kansas! I must have taken a wrong turn between Narnia and the chocolate factory." He exclaimed with a surprised expression.

"Haha, the laughs we share;" Adam said amiably, "But seriously, I'm Adam Lobe, a student whose flight was delayed a week, and ms. Reynolds, who totally wants me by the way, told me to ask you about some group placement?"

The dean had his feet on his desk and was tilting his chair back. "Yeah I know, just be outside the school today at 6:00 sharp! And if anyone disagrees with you, kick 'em in the balls, especially if they're wearing a trench coat, or else he'll flash ya!" He said.

"Eh... Sure, I'll be there, and I'll kick people if the need arises. But might I ask, what will I be doing there?"

"Just ask the people you'll be going with, I'm busy, geeet out!" He said, he then pulled out a rubix cube. "Damn thing..." He muttered trying to solve it.

I sigh heavily. There wasn't much excitement in sitting alone and waiting. I tried to think a moment of what I could do. Though nothing came to mind really. I guess I would just stick to my default and head to the library and read up on things. Hopefully I could keep an eye on the time though. I would get up and head on into the library and look around a bit before grabbing a small book to read and sitting down.

Cindy merely nodded at the comment, and went back to her book. Maybe she would read Alice in Wonderland to pass the time, a relatively more recent addition to the stories.
"When are we to begin anyway?" she wondered out loud.

"Did you not listen? We have to be outside of the school at six o'clock, and as I said before, get out if you have no business in here." I said annoyed. I had only used this as a meeting spot since my trunk was in here, I didn't know if letting in these degenerates would exactly be listed under one of the things I could do with my privilege.

Because Adam had no bloody idea where exactly 'outside of the school' or who was in his group (except that some guy in a trench coat would try to flash him, which was discomforting), he decide to err on the side of caution and show up as soon as he could. He did not know what the mission would entail, but judging by this school's routine 'test', he was sure as hell not going anywhere without his full gear. Therefore he was presently clad in his 'work clothes' i.e. the only ones without holes in them. It was basically just a dark gray hoodie that made him blend in only a little bit more easily, but it made him feel cool to think of it as badass stealth gear.
"Now then, trench-coat guy, you're my only lead. Where in the name of Darwin are you?"

Erza ran quickly the football within her sights. She darted backwards her eyes on the ball as she raised her arms up to the air. She called out to Edgar across the area,"I...GOT....IT!!!!"

She ran full force when suddenly she slammed into a guy in a dark hoodie. She tumbled to the ground the ball hitting her in the shoulder with a dull thud and she took a hiss of breath. She sat back, speaking with a rough Scottish accent through the tumbles of her red hair,"Damn. Sorry bout that mate. I was pretty sure it was in my hands I didn't see you there."

She shook her tresses then pulled her hair away from her face to show light freckles up her cheeks and green eyes. Edgar ran up a few seconds later laughing like a hyena,"That was hilarious. I told you running backwards wasn't the correct way to catch a football."

Erza stood glaring up at him with a snarl,"How would you know how to play american football anyway? You're bloody Danish!"

Edgar smirked,"It doesn't take a genius to know running backwards is an idiotic thing to do."

Erza stuck up her middle finger and leaned out to get the ball,"Well you better start running then. Asshole!"

He threw her a look then began running back. She set back her heel then threw the ball with a long distance roll. She smirked turning back to the new guy,"Yeah..sorry about that." She gave him an awkward smile, "Uh...waiting for someone?"

"Yes, the love of my life. A search that was over the moment faith crashed us together", Adam got from sprawling on the ground to standing up holding the beaty's hand in one swift motion. "Truly the gods smile upon me this day to grant me the boon of witnessing such a lovely maiden on my first day here."

Smooth Adam, real smooth. But wait! What if you come on too strong? Remember the Tinder Incident, maybe too much emotion is not a good idea. Try being casual, how are normal people casual? Too hell with it, just pretend to be scottish.

"Don't worry about it lass! No herm dunne, I've been hurt worse during the last caber toss. So what do ya think abut getting some haggis after yer wee game?"

    I think she bought it.

Erza stook a step back a blush forming on her features when he kissed her hand. She then listened to his accent and covered her mouth to stop her laughing. She felt tears run down her cheeks,"Oi..I don't...I don't think I've laughed so hard in my whole life."

She wiped her cheeks then smiled,"Caber toss? I didn't..." She paused trying to calm herself,"I didn't know it was so popular outside of the Highlands. Oh, and I also have to say 'love of my life' that you are in mighty fine luck because I have a wicked Haggis recipe."

She took a step forward and poked him in the stomach,"Nothing warms a man's heart fast enough then a good warm sheep's bladder."

Edgar ran up, with tense features and a hard grip on the ball,"Erza...who's your new friend?"

Conflicting emotions coursed through Adam. He had made her laugh, which american sitcoms always said was a good thing, on the down side, now he had to actually eat haggis. His dad ate haggis once, he had not considered it fit for human consumption. Oh well, he remembered eating worse things. But a glasses-wearing guy showed up, clearly Red's friend. What did he call her, Erza? Sounded familiar. Regardless, introductions were in order.

"Oh forgive me, I hadn't introduced myself," he said and then he bowed theatrically. "My name is Adam Lobe, I am a student at this fine intitute, but sadly my flight was delayed until now. You know how those ash-clouds disturb air travel. Nevertheless, I'm here now, and I'm sure that with enough minds to probe I'll know everything that I have missed over the last week." He couldn't help himself but grin while he said it, but best not to upset the normies too much.
"Perhaps you could help me," he continued, "I'm placed into an already existing group, but my instructions on how to meet up with them were rather vague. Have any of you seen somebody that the dean might describe as 'a flasher in a trenchcoat'?

Tam watched the chaos from afar, thinking.
"New guy would be a good addition to the club... I could play off a different role then..."
Shrugging, Tam went to the appropriate meeting place.

Erza raised an eyebrow when a fleeting of anger passed over her expression,"A trenchcoat...."

Edgar moved over to stand beside Erza his expression pointed as he looked at Adam,"I think you are looking for Joe. He's in our group. Erza and him don't get along..Well to be honest not many of us do.."

Erza crossed her arms,"Because the guy's a right prick! It's weird that the dean didn't mention we had another group member. Oh. Where are my manners today. I'm Erza Cormac and this is Edgar."

    Edgar grimaced,"Anderson. Edgar Anderson."

Erza elbowed him in the gut, "Stop being such a grump. The poor lad's traveled a long way. So you mentioned probing minds.."

Hello...please don't listen to my thoughts. It would be highly embarassing if you found out I have to go waxing later on tonight. Oh..that reminds me. I should probably pick up some groceries for haggis. Oh and a new pair of shoes. Thankgod Dad's not here to scare off this one. He's cute. WAIT YOU DIDN'T HEAR THAT..DID YOU?.." she thought.

She blushed, pulling at her short overalls trying to clear her thoughts,"You can't read thoughts can you?"

Edgar twitched, looking at the boy with a repressed bit of anger.

Well, that's a stroke of luck. Adam was worried he'd never find anyone in the group, and he wasn't althogether enthusiastic about meeting trenchcoat guy. Nice to know there were at least two sane people in the group. In that case, he guessed he could be open with them.

"Mind reading? Heavens no, your immediate thoughts have nothing to fear from me. I only do memories, the best explanation I can give would be that I can copy and paste memories between me and others. But even for that I have to make physical contact with the head in question. So, no worries."

He hesitated for a moment, but in for a penny, in for a pound. "However, The moment your thoughts are stored in you short- and long term memories I can get to it, but few thoughts actually get there. Besides, I rather not copy memories of people I like without their permission." He finished giving her what he thought was his most charming smile.

I had walked outside carrying the trunk, after I chased everyone out of the alchemy room, I had locked up. "What the hell are you idiots doing?" I asked annoyed, it was almost six o'clock, we'd be meeting outside of the school gates soon.

Adam put up a small sound barrier and, while subtly covering his mouth, asked Edgar: "Is mr. Sunshine here the flasher the dean told me to kick in the privates?"

Erza bit her bottom lip and was about to say something when Joe walked out and a dark shadow crossed over her features,"We were talking to an added group member, ya vicious little..."

Edgar placed his hand on her shoulder and she simmered,"Yes...That is him..Relax Erza."

She clenched her fist, shrugging him off,"I'm cool...No flames. I promise."

Adam stepped forward sporting a huge smile and reached out his hand to the 'vicous little dotdotdot'. "Why hello! So nice to meet you, my name is Adam Lobe. I am what you might call a last-minute exchange student. I was a bit late in arrival and the dean has put me in your fun group. I'm looking forward to working with you and I'm sure we'll go along splendidly."

"...Yeah, right, just stay out of my way and I'll stay out of yours." I said, I walked past him, shoving him slightly with my shoulder, there was a van waiting outside of the school gates, a bored looking woman with long white hair, piercing blue eyes, pale skin, and a slender body clad in black clothing, a simple blouse, jeans, and shoes was leaning against it watching us expectantly.

"I am not sure how I can stay our of your way whilst still working together with you on this team," Adam said a bit annoyed. "But do enlighten these idiots on the finer mechanisms on teamwork, as I can see that you must be an absolute master in the subject."

"Nice trenchcoat by the way," and Adam also started walking towards the van.

Erza smirked walking after him towards the Van with Edgar hanging a bit back. When she reached the teacher Erza put her hands on her hips and nodded,"Are you our instructor?"

Edgar came up with a bored expression, looking around in hopes of seeing the other team members show up.

I merely ignored him and set the trunk down carefully on the sidewalk as the woman stepped forward when everyone assembled. "Hello, I'll be your instructor for this exercise, but I won't be assisting, I'll be examining your skills and ability to work together, if you are in any form of danger that is when I shall step in, I name is Naomi." She said, she gestured to the van. "Now, please get in." She said, then she did a little head count. "Oh... we have nine people... it'll be a bit of a squeeze." She said frowning.

"Shotgun." I said immediately after she said that, I walked to the back of the van and put the trunk in and got into the passenger seat. The van had two seats in the front, and then two rows behind that which would seat 3 people each, so altogether, the van was intended to seat 8 people.
