How did I forget this scene in Battlestar Galactica where Admiral Adama and Laura Roslin are hitting a blunt in sick bay?

I seem to be falling back into my terrible stay-up-until-eleven-forty-every-night habit because MELATONIN INCREASES REM SLEEP AND NOW YOU DON'T NEED AS MUCH (or so my inner dumbass tells me), so I'm going to whack myself with six hours of sleep and hope I take the hint.

Can American kids really stay at home and not go to school if there's a lot of snow outside?

Yup. Districts in Michigan can have six snow (and the last two years, cold) days before they have to make the extra days up at the end of the year. In our defense, most school kids in my town ride the bus to and from school, often from many miles away. There's no defense for Washington, D.C. closing its schools today after an inch of snow.

Yes. The years we were stationed in Omaha, Nebraska saw blizzards and snowstorms that would close school on a regular basis. As Stevesh already mentioned, states where this is an issue usually have a set number of days that can be missed for snow before it affects the normal end of the school year. At some point in the mid 70's, this number of days was exceeded where I lived because I distinctly remember the disappointment of knowing summer vacation was going to come late. And I agree with @stevesh that D.C. schools closing for an inch of snow is absolutely ridiculous.

I think the better question is "shouldn't American kids stay at home and now go to school if there's a lot of snow outside?"

There's nothing more magical than a snow day(minus the beach) and honestly our public school systems are just that unimportant.

Urk, I want snow days. :( Except it's too late for that... But Finns should adopt snow days for adults too.

This snow day would be a perfect day to take a big chunk of editing out of my novel, but my car has become a snow drift. I am way too curious to find out if it is still there or has been stolen.

Hey, gang, how's it going? Just passing through to say hello and to give another status report. (hehe ;)) So My birthday was last Saturday. Glad to be totally official now, at 21 years old. (How the heck did I survive?) I got my first tattoo: the element symbols from the tv series Avatar: The Last Air Bender.

(Sorry about the size, wan't meant to be that big. Although, if you're wondering why I chose them, here's the long version:
The biggest reason is that together they make a whole. (if you take them by themselves and not as a part of the chakra system... more on that in a minute) Each one represents a different aspect of humanity and life on earth. Earth keeps one grounded and connected to nature and self. It reminds a person to be still and patient. To listen and cultivate centeredness and clarity. Water teaches people to be fluid and dynamic. To push and push and to surrender to the flow of life and energy. It is creative and expressive.

Fire teaches one tohave confidence and passion. It prompts people to act, teaching purposeful controlled action as opposed to inaction or reaction. It is about self awareness and willpower, understanding that one CAN.

Air is about being light of heart. Open and vast, free of attachment, free of judgement, free to love oneself and others. It teaches connectedness to everything else through openess of love. It is also the bridge between the lower and upper chakras. It is the last of the terrestrial chakras.

Mastery of these 4 chakras allows one mastery over life in this world, to an extent and grants access to power in and of the higher chakras. The first three are about one's relationship to himself and the outter world. The upper three are about one's relationship to his or her inner self. The heart (air) chakra in the middle, is the bridge, the transition.)

There are many firsts going on for me right now, actually. At my job, we are coming up on Inventory, and this will be my first time going through that. I also had some of my first "real" drinks. And... I just filed my taxes for the first time. I also made my own decision to resume my schooling online and will be making my own way for that. Altogether, this is an exciting time for me. :)

That's not to say everything has been perfect. There has been an unwarranted, unprecedented and unnecessary amount of drama with my mom lately. There have also been a couple of financial dings. Buuuuut, looking forward, I can see the ball is clearly in my court now. The shake ups have placed me in better position to move forward. I've never felt so capable, so empowered to do anything. It's like I have this inner knowing that if I get the vision for something, I can bring it about or move into it.

All of my hard work to bring some order to my life is, at last paying off and the fog is lifting. To put it lightly, I wouldn't bet against me this year. :) Anyway, that's my wrap up. (Long though it may be, this is actually the truncated version. >_<) Here's hoping all is well with you guys. It has really been a while since I've spent some considerable time hear or doing anything really writing related, but I like to think we're still friends. :angle: I'm just not quite done growing yet.

    All my love,

    Andrae

Meddle is definitely a good one. And I like both Animals and Wish You Were Here better than Dark Side of the Moon.

while i enjoy all of their music, i like the older stuff better. on the one hand, too bad they got rid of sid. on the other hand, good thing they did because they wouldn't have gilmour. i just wish i had been old enough to see them in concert as a whole band.

Hi Andrae, thanks for stopping by. :)

That's a neat tattoo. Can I ask how much (approximately) that cost? I'm planning my second tatt (a celtic hare) and I'm prepared to pay about 200EUR for it 'cause it's gonna be fairly sizable. I'm just wondering how the prices compare between the US and Finland.

Good to hear you've got nice things going for you right now. Happy belated birthday! Now you're a proper adult, finally, having reached the milestone of omg-I-can-buy-beer-now! :D

In Finland it's probably less expensive, higher quality, and comes with free medical care. We get it. No need to rub it in all the time :(

Also live, but from a slick Macbook Pro newly upgraded to OSX Yosemite and feeling for the very first time the lack of Steve's hand at the helm. :( He would never, ever, evah have allowed this release.

For the first time in forever, I've changed my avatar (read that in the melody of that song from that Frozen movie).

Lemex! I didn't recognize you without the snow wolf avatar!

You look good though, if that's you in the image. :D

And now you've got me imagining you running around Northeast England singing For The First Time In Forever. :p

That is me. :) All smart-like and suited. That was when I was teaching A-level English Literature, only about mid last year.

And yes, Frozen warmed my frozen heart.
