This is a great answer. Especially the first part. Of course most of us want to do it for a living, and be paid for it. But to feel that compelling force making you write, that's the key.
I write because it is something that gives me clarity and clears my thoughts. I've grown up being told I had a knack for writing and making stories, and I love nothing more than to lose myself in a moment of semi-consciousness and to write something I truly believe to be magical or amazing. It's the one thing I have that I have full confidence in my ability, and I guess I can be fairly arrogant when it comes to it.
Why do I write? I have honestly asked myself this question a lot lately, especially with me trying to figure out my life and all, and the answer is easy, I love to. It may sound simple and easy, and not really answering the question, but the reason I write is because I love to tell stories and writing is how I do it. I get a satisfaction of writing a story, whether it be good or bad, if everyone or no one reads it, just the fact that the story in my head was written down, and told in one way or another makes me happy.
What compells you to write? The voices that like to talk to each other inside of my head. Why do you write? Because it helps me to escape the 'real' world. What makes you write what you write? It all started when I read one of Christine Feehan's Carpathian Novels. I didn't like the ending of one of them and thought 'What if?' What Made you decide you liked to write? I don't particularly 'like' to write, in fact I find it quite difficult and stressful. But I feel it is something that I need to do, something that is necessary.... a bit like exercise. If I don't do it for a while I get moody and restless. What Do You Write? Romance, Thriller, Horror, Poetry, Sci-fi, Fantasy... Anything really.
Why write to calm myself beacuase i have way to many toughts and ideas it helps me relax and think straight.
I would write to record happenings and events in my life and experiences. Others would be just fantasy.
'Playing god' is fairly fun, and something that people enjoy doing. I don't mean this in a satanic sense, rather that individuals enjoy the process of creating a world in which they control the rules.
I have an odd view that our worlds are already established, that they just wait for an author to find them.
I have a theory that every story that's created in this universe exists in an alternate dimension, and that it's possible to travel there through something like a wormhole that's hidden somewhere in our own dimension. It's a skeptical theory though and sounds more fiction than fact ...it would be cool though
I kind of have this same view. You can enumerate every sequence of symbols that a human would recognize as "letters", "punctuation marks", etc. If you show a person any given sequence of symbols, then he will have a certain reaction to it. Writing a piece of creative writing is merely a matter of discovering a sequence of symbols that triggers a given reaction in a reader.
What compells you to write? > I love writing. Why do you write? > It's fun to build things. You're in this sandbox and can do whatever you want. What makes you write what you write? > I have a wild imagination. What Made you decide you liked to write? > Positive reinforcement. What Do You Write? > Fiction and guest interviews for my website and podcast.
What compells you to write? I began showing an interest in writing from a young age (around 5 years old) and would regularly write stories and poetry. The writing stopped in my teens and early adults years, or at least in the form of fiction and poetry, and I felt the need to write about myself. This took the form of inconsistent personal diary entries. Eventually, I had managed to get whatever it was out of my system and as soon as I felt more complete, I instantly had strong desires to begin writing. I was no longer intersted in writing about myself and I felt like I had come back to what feels best. Writing feels like its what I was always meant to be doing, it feels natural and this is what compells me to write. Why do you write? While writing, I couldn't be more at ease. Writing is my creative outlet, or perhaps I should say that it is one of my most powerful creative outlets. When I am not able to channel my creativity, I get a sense of being incomplete and I feel uneasy. What makes you write what you write? I have a blog which works at helping others through short stories, interviews and articles. This is currently what motivates me to write. I recently began reading up on the history of art and have been learning a lot about what one would call 'primitive art'. This was often not at all for decorative purposes or entertainment but more a case of it having its own specific purpose. This idea suits my current creative ambitions and this type of outlook helps me to stretch my imagination further. What Made you decide you liked to write? This all came back into my life quite recently. I always knew that I enjoyed writing and although I had a number of small writing projects in my early adulthood, nothing fell into place so naturally as it has done so over the past few months. I have miraculously acquired a little time to myself which enables me to focus on my writing. What made me decide to focus on this? It feels 100% right for me. What Do You Write? I'm currently writing inspirational short stories and articles.
What compels you to write? I would have to say that is an ‘escape’ for me from the mundane and daily grind. I love being able to have a creative outlet and to escape the world. It is also a very peaceful and relaxing endeavor for me. Why do you write? Like I said before, I write to escape reality sometimes. I personally suffer from anxiety and depression, writing is an outlet for me and helps ground me if I ever have a panic attack. I can also express myself through writing without having the fear of rejection and crucifixion. What makes you write what you write? My past experiences and my families, which grew up in the USSR, are what makes me write what I do today. I write about pain and suffering, but unlike my own life, it typically ends positively in some aspect. Life is a constant battle and that is something I like to portray. What Made you decide you liked to write? I do not think I ever decided to like writing, I just always did it from the time I was a child. I literally have dozens of notebooks from every age of stories I wrote or started. It’s funny to see how my handwriting has progressed! What Do You Write? I write stories of pain, of hard life choices, and of the consequences. I am a historical lover, so I tend to write books placed in previous time periods. I am heavily influenced by my family in Lithuania. I also do enjoy some level of fantasy and with include some in my stories from time to time.
I'm an artist. I want to create and share. Writing is the strongest artistic inclination I have, by far. It started a long time ago, when I was just a child and I had mentors who believed I possess a gift. It's taken me a long time to realize the type of writing I want to do. I majored in journalism and while I have the utmost respect for that field, it's not for me. I have toyed with the idea of writing a memoir. That wasn't the right fit either. Now I am in the beginning stages of writing my first fantasy novel (possibly a trilogy) and it feels perfect. I think I underestimated myself all these years. I didn't believe I had it what it takes to create a worthwhile story out of thin air. I believe now.
I write because... idk... I have always done it since I learned to write and I don´t know how not to keep going without writing. I started because I thought like, there isn´t a book on the shelf I´d like to read right now, so I make that book. Sometimes though, I´m afraid I´m stupid and my ideas are not good enough. Thing is not all of them can be, there are hundreds of shitty ideas, before a right one comes along. But sometimes I erase half a story because it seems not good enough, or I´m not even sure what the plot is, but I still have done my writing.
For me I write because I have alot of ideas that take the form of voices and acting in my head. If I died before expressing them it'd be a huge waste
What compels you to write? Ideas. They flow into my head at random times and when they do I have to put them on paper. If I don't they rattle away in my head all day long until I put something to paper. I also simply enjoy writing. I love the escape, the world developing inside my head. I find it fascinating how the mind can create these fantastic worlds out of nothing. Why do you write? Refer to above. I just have to. When the idea hits me I have to write it down. I also find it to be a relaxing and enjoyable escape from the stresses of reality. What makes you write what you write? Any random thing. Some times it's a conversation I'm having, some times it's a dream I had, some times it's completely unrelated to anything going on around me. There is no one single answer to this question. The influences are all around me; sometimes consciously sometimes subconsciously. What Made you decide you liked to write? I started writing when I was in first or second grade. It was something we were required to do occasionally in English class (I think we called it, "Language Arts," in Elementary school). My teacher at the time would take her favorite stories and post them on a poster board outside her classroom. When I consistently made it to the board and found the creative writing days to be the most joyful, I knew writing was something I loved to do. What Do You Write? Anything. Fantasy mostly but I've written a large variety of things. I think it's safe to say Science Fiction and Fantasy are my two main genres, though.
What compells you to write? Emotions, reading and the way I look at the world. Those hidden treasures that can be found in everyday life. They seem to be all the more valuable once written down eloquently enough. Why do you write? My partner was a writer. She inspired me. I have achieved some great accolades as an athlete but wanted to indulge in something to challenge me intellectually. Heartbreakingly, my partner died early this year from a TBI and oxygen deprivation of the brain. But I'll do my best to learn, for her. What makes you write what you write? The events in my life, my adventures, my imagination. Most recently it's just a release from the dark, fucked up and twisted emotions that overwhelm me in regards to my partner dying. What Made you decide you liked to write? I just love the art of learning. No matter what it is. I thrive on creativity. What Do You Write? Mostly poetry and short stories. Things that inspire me. I do have an interest in learning more on non-fiction though.
What compels you to write? Everything and nothing! I love to write. I just do. Whether I am published or not I define myself as a write. Why do you write? It's my joy. I love to create people and worlds and I love to tell stories. What makes you write what you write? I get ideas in my head so it's not like I go around looking of inspiration, it just happens. I just fall into it. Typical scenario: I'm sitting on my couch watching The View...BOOM an idea comes in my head of what would make a great book. I grab my notebook and I write it down. Or I could be listening to a song and I am moved by the lyrics What Made you decide you liked to write? That is a hard question to answer. Nothing really. I just always knew that I like it. Ever since I was a little girl I have been writing stories and poems and telling stories. My Uncle is an Author and now my oldest son wants to write comics when he "grows up" and he's only 7. He write every single weekend and when he gets free time at school. Possibly its in the blood lol. What Do You Write? Short stories, children's books, poems (hardly ever anymore) and novels. My problem is finishing novels as I get the classic writers ailment..starting a story then another amazing idea pops into my head.
