    Announcing Wreybies as Operations Manager

Discussion in 'Announcements' started by Daniel, Mar 24, 2015.

It is with great pleasure that I am announcing @Wreybies as WritingForums.org's Operations Manager.

The position of Operations Manager has three primary responsibilities: management of teams and team responsibilities, overseeing operational effectiveness and efficiency, and assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of new ideas.

This is a new position and is the first of many steps intended to improve operations and better WritingForums.org. In terms of forum usergroups, this is an Administrator position.

This position is being created partly to reduce my responsibilities and activities as the sole forum administrator. Managing both day-to-day operations and long-term growth is a lot of work for one person. In filling this position, Wreybies will be taking on some of my responsibilities and will be conducting many of the day-to-day activities on the site. This will enable me to focus on what I am good at and what I enjoy - growth and development. I will continue to act as owner and primary administrator, and I hope this change will provide me with more time to write and participate in the community.

Wreybies has been involved with moderator team since 2009 and has repeatedly expressed good judgement, a passion for this community, and a desire to contribute to betterment of the forum. In my absence, Wreybies is one of the volunteers who stepped up as a leader. It is for these reasons I am confident in the creation of this position and the member filling it.

Going forward, the Operations Manager will conduct many of the day-to-day activities of the forum, while I will focus on achieving mid-term goals and on WritingForums.org's growth and development.

This is a great sign for the future of WF. In the coming months we will be implementing a number of improvements, which may present a number of leadership opportunities and changes that I believe everyone will enjoy. A huge thanks to Wreybies, the past and current moderator team members, our community project volunteers and leaders, donors and Supporters, and everyone who participates in this community.

I'm pretty sure thanking @Wreybies is more in order than congratulating him.:agreed: :D

This is such a good forum already, and it seems to be getting even better organised. I hope @Wreybies won't feel too swamped by his new responsibilites, but this is an exciting development. Well-chosen person, that's for sure.

Many thanks. :) The position is a new one for the forum, so some if it is going to be by the seat of my pants. Already a few things that I have asked to subsume into the role have proven more complex than I had given credit for. The learning curve begins now. :agreed:

Maybe banners isn't the right word. Your titles (they look kinda like banners): "Operations Manager," "Staff," "Supporter," et cetera.

I like them. They look like rainbow bands on a wrist. Now you need a purple one.

I like it that when this thread gets active the little "Recent Posts" sidebar on the front page says:

    "Announcing Wreybies as..."

And then the next words are someone's username. So for while it was "Announcing Wreybies as... Wreybies", which, honestly, seemed a little pompous and unnecessary. But once I post this reply, it's going to say "Announcing Wreybies as... Bayview" which is quite a bit more dramatic!

You all didn't know, did you? Wreybies is me, I'm Wreybies... you'll see it in print, so it must be true!

Congratulations, thank you, and condolences, all at once.

You deserve the position (in the good ways!), and it has been a badly needed role. There have been many times that someone with administrative access has been needed when Daniel could not be there. I'm glad he has shared that burden.

And a burden it is. No mistake about it. Thus the condolences as well as the thanks. But there's no one I'd trust more in this new role.

So I'll end this as I began it.

    Congratulations, Wrey.

Shhh... We've only just quelled the rumors of a Velvet Mafia takeover of the forum by focusing on our newly formed Scandinavian contingent. :bigtongue:

Does this new position mean we have to laugh at you jokes? I hope you don’t have clicks…I never join them. But anyway…Let the rest of know how we can help with this new load you’ve taken on.

I do have one question. I know from you past post you don’t like members to talk about religious writing. Some of us do religious writing, and we do post work for comment. Where do you stand on this?

    No. I'm not funny. :)

I give succor to no cliques and I am staunchly in favor of egalitarianism.

I take no exception whatsoever to members speaking about religious writing. Religious writing is writing. My participation in this thread and also in this thread should speak for themselves.

I live in a high corner of a wee rock in the Caribbean, once home to pirates and sea-folk of many ilk. :) Puerto Rico.
