When I have some more free time, I like to stay with my family at the countryside. It's basically my second home, and I regret my school is too far away to spend more time here. But anyway, it has great views and hills, and along with that, some animals you don't see walking around in the city. Now it's spring they mostly come out a little before dusk, so I've tried to capture some pictures. The quality is kind of crap, because a. I haven't mastered the camera skills yet, b. it was taken from quite a distance and c. the lighting was, well, bad, and d. in some cases, the animal was on the move, so pretty hard to capture. In other words, room for improvement.

Kelly Freas was one of my favorite artists! He painted a ton of covers for Analog magazine back in the day, and they were often beautiful.
Sometimes they are. I've read the one by Delany before and it's great, as is all his work. The early novels by Andre Norton usually fall in the "juvenile" category (as it was known), which was the equivalent of YA back then, but without the heavy stroke of dystopia. It was more... adventure-ie. Johnny Quest-esque.
I'm on my honeymoon right now I Myrtle Beach, SC... But I couldn't resist sharing these awesome photos my husband and I took today!!
I had to do a quick double take on that first one...thought it was your hand around his neck! I was like, wooah! Great photos. Brave too...I'd be scared to have that tiger on my lap. It looks pretty grown.
They seem great with the animals. The chimp was out the entire time playing with the trainer, climbing on bars. They're only open for two hours a day too. The rest of the time, the animals are in a huge 17 acre sanctuary. We wanted to take a guided tour of the place but it was $300 per person. Yikes!
Love the comment about the hand on the neck! A tiger cub that's still on a bottle? That's a baby. Full-grown he'll be around 60 stone, and over 10 foot long. You wouldn't want that on your lap!
Yeah, the little tiger was one month, and the bigger one on the bottle was seven months! We couldn't believe how big they were at such a young age. It was pretty amazing though. One of the best experiences of my life.
Why have I never heard of a tree that flowers and bears its fruit on its trunk? http://www.kuriositas.com/2010/04/jabuticaba-tree-that-fruits-on-its.html That is incredible!
Jackfruit trees also bear their fruit rather randomly from the trunk or from the ends of newer shoots.
The mail-person brought me these the other day! F-287 ANDRE NORTON Key Out of Time (1964) Cover art by Emsh And.... D-255 KENNETH BULMER City Under the Sea (1957) Cover art by Ed Valigursky D-255b POUL ANDERSON Star Ways (1957) Cover art by Emsh
Well true but that's the most foul smelling fruit you'll ever encounter... Really not something you'll want to get near at... A similarly disappointing fruit is the African Horned Melon, looks like its going to be amazing, you take a bite off it and... And... It tastes like... A plain old cucumber. And not a particularly good one at that.
Thought I'd better put something cool (in my opinion) up, so here's an old pic (18 months ago or so) of when I met Bill Nighy, who just so happened to be in the city centre that day. And a more recent picture from a few weeks back.
Me too! Imagine my surprise when I was on my way home walking through the city centre and he just passed me coming out of a cafe. I double-took, thinking "Is that him?" then decided to risk the embarrassment and chase after him. Needless to say, he was a really nice guy. Told me he was filming something here (wouldn't specify what) and not only waited to take a picture with me but also several girls who saw me stop him and recognised him too ("OMG, I loved you in Wild Target!" one of them quipped, which made me laugh that that was the movie they recognised him from.)
Ugh I couldn't tell you the name of a single movie he was in, but when I look down his film list, I like a lot of them. H2G2 in particular, but yeah so many.
